'Personal Opinion' vs 'Ruining Other Peoples Enjoyment'

'Empathy Recession' is a new phrase we heard recently to describe the online world.

And after going through many of the discussions in the recent polls, we just wanted to put out a reminder to everyone that while it can be frustrating when a poll does not go the way you personally wish it would go, it does not mean the movie or show you wanted will never be watched. It simply means it will be watched at a later date.

The one thing we always asked from everyone is to treat eachother with respect and civility, and to keep the peace is because all we really want to ensure everyone here have a good time, some escapism away from the unpleasantness of the real world. That's it. Which is why we put heavy emphasis on asking everyone to refrain from putting down others for having different preferences. To insinuate anyone who prefers X over Y must there for be something to be dismissive about and talk down to.

We have no problem with you sharing why you dislike something, in fact we encourage it, we want to hear your thoughts on why something didnt work for you. But saying "I dont like this because these reasons" is not the same as "People like that thing? I guess everyone here must be children/boomers/whatever dismissiveness". And we definitely, DEFINITLEY do not appreciate anyone who proceed to reply to multiple comments where people are celebrating their choice taking the lead with "You are wrong for wanting this". You have the right to dislike something, but you do not get to make others feel bad for liking it. You wouldn't loudly proclaim in a theatre lobby that anyone holding a ticket to another movie must be lesser would you?

So let other people enjoy their thing. Just as they should let you enjoy your thing when its time comes.

So please, please try to remember behind each name you see on screen is an actual person, who enjoy, laugh, cry and dislike things the same way you do. Be kind to one another. The rest of the internet is already going through an Empathy Recession, lets not bring that in here as well. Try to find common ground, ask them why they like something, see it from their point of view, walk a mile in their shoes, and if you still dont like it, then at least youre a mile away and got their shoes.
