Man I loved this movie growing up. Watching it again now it's funny to remember how absurd and silly it is in certain scenes, and then just how great and emotional it can be in another. I would love to see another take on this where the action is more realistic. I mean don't get me wrong, gun fu is fun to watch, lol. But it definitely detracts (at least for me) from the seriousness of the subject matter at times.

A word about the "grammaton clerics": The Tetragrammaton is one of the names of the God of Abraham, referring to the four letters of the name he gives himself, YHVH. (It makes more sense in Hebrew.) The name would suggest they are embodying the letter of the law, in the Old Testament sense of "law." And yeah gun kata is so ridiculous it makes my teeth hurt. I can accept this is a story where people are able to function and make any decisions at all without feeling emotions but I cannot accept the bad math that goes into gun kata. You're shooting probabilistically to cover the most likely fields where the opposition is going to be, sure, but that means "statistically" you're going to get shot at one point. It's not the solved problem of gunfighting the movie wants it to be. This movie is silly but in my opinion it's worth it for that one scene where John tears down the walls on his figurative cage of emotions and sees the sky for the first time. I think that's the end of act 1. I could watch a whole movie about someone experiencing emotion for the first time. By the way there's one thing you should know about Seven Psychopaths if you ever end up watching that, spiritual sequel to In Bruges and all: The dog doesn't die. Promise.

Glad I watched to the end before this comment because I feel the exact same way as George about remaking it, might be too obvious a choice but I'd love to see Villeneuve and Gosling reunite for it.

I saw this once like 15 years ago. The only things I remembered were the "no feelings" plotline, The Gun Kata and CB partners' face sliding off. Come to think of it, that pretty much sums the whole movie up :D What really shocked me on this rewatch were the "Woosh" sounds his arms make in his first fight scene. It's so silly and it doesn't happen in the rest of the movie, was this a part of the "no blood to very bloody" developement you mentioned in the "Tread softly Cinebinge, because you tread on my trivia" section?

Did you know that "Father" would be the bad guy in this movie when you started the intro with fathers day stories?

Yeeh I am Swedish and we're weird.. We do our fathers day in November. I usually only call to congratulate him on fathers day, nothing big. (When I still lived in my hometown I would make sure to visit also on fathers day but as I've moved to the other side of the country it's not important enough to make that trip for fathers day.)
