Re nominative determinism, in the UK we have a judge called Lord Justice Judge: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Igor_Judge,_Baron_Judge

Finally finished this after fits and starts. Yikes. Bit of a drag for me. This is the sort of movie I should really be into but there was just a little too much odd acting, line delivery and bizarre dialogue, especially from the secondary characters. The “unfinished” visual effects don’t bother me too much, but they did stand out negatively next to the high quality of the physical set design and costumes. Clearly a good effort was made to make this movie look good but I guess they didn’t have enough money. A for effort. I could have completely done without the *entire* merc and prison sequence. Too much Standing Around and Talking for this kind of movie. These movies are getting into the habit of killing off Riddick’s female co-leads which is annoying. The recasting of Jack from Rhiana Jade Griffith to Alexa Davalos was distracting especially as they are only 3 years apart and most especially because Rhiana Jade Griffith was evidently in line to return to the role and started training for it. The movie kept reminding us that Really Yes, This Is Jack We Promise and No Fooling. Still, it was better than the first movie. Much better.

"Pitch Black" was so good that it makes this attempt look that much worse in comparison. This is a simple case of a budget film doing really well and people deciding to make a sequel because they are guaranteed an audience as long as they keep Vin and give him shiny eyes and have him act tough. But they didn't know or care what made the first film enjoyable. In "Pitch Black" the knives and shiny eyes were window-dressing on a story that was somewhat interesting and a science fiction premise that was very cool. This movie didn't bother with a real story and abandoned all pretense of science fiction in favor of space fantasy magic. The Rotten Tomatoes summary is pretty accurate: "As an action movie, Riddick offers some thrills, but as a sequel to Pitch Black, it's a disappointment."

I'm so happy they are watching this series... I Love this series. I think only one person I know IRL has ever even heard about it. So very happy for new viewers. There is supposed to be a new one in the makings.

In the director's cut of movie, we get more of necromongers, and at least one other great scene with Lord and Lady Vaako. There's also more Furyan stuff that ties into the Escape from Butcher Bay game, including a scene highlighting the importance the Furyan handprint on his chest. It's also got a lot of tightened up dialog and slightly less cheese as a result.

Simone is so into this... I LOVE IT!!!! George obviously has things to say... They both Love it though... They both wanna watch the next one... So we win. 😬😬😬

You know I've never seen a movie Go from a standard space creature movie with an interesting character to the craziness and mayhem of this movie wtf. I love this movie I do but it's crazy the difference between pitch black and this

@George The audio mixing is fukin on point in this upload... Thank you. I can watch on mobile easily.

It's not high art or anything but I love this movie. The director's cut adds a bit more to it but the animated short Riddick: Dark Fury bridges Pitch Black to Chronicles a bit. By the time CoR came out Vin Diesel was a much bigger name so they retroactively made Pitch Black his movie even though it felt more like an ensemble on release. They made the C0R: Escape from Butcher Bay game which was actually good at the time, and was a prequel to Pitch back reinforcing the focus on Riddick. The Dark Fury was made to bridge to the theatrical reintroduction of Riddick as the main protagonist in Chronicles. He was like dollar story Conan in a dollar store Dune/40k universe

For some reason, the other Furyan kept reminding me of this guy the whole time: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=989-7xsRLR4&ab_channel=VITAS Well, until his redemption at the end, when he suddenly reminded me a lot of Alan Tudyk.

According to some sources the Necromonger Empire came from a religious group called Brotherhood of Austeres an monotheistic and isolationist religious cult; everything that a regular man touches they were against and great believers of the Monoverse one all god overseeing this "one" verse. They were great in numbers along with their long journeys, traveling long distances with their conventional drive ships. After loosing many in this journeys ultimately they found a planet they called Asylum were they refuge. Cobu an Asylum native and a philosopher-scientist started preaching about there are more gods as they are more Universes instead of one. Long story short he was punished until he couldn't feel any more pain in his body put in prison killed his family and with the help of some of his followers(The Covulytes) scaped and travel thru the bast numbers of stars of this galaxy only to find the "Threshold" a gateway were time & space is broken, separating this verse to another. Mind you he still had his dead family with him only to cross over this dead space with his dead family. Minutes later he returned different with super power and speed gifts to the Cobulyte's Ship only to announce his family is not dead anymore and was living with them for neons. He came back to finish what he started. He defeated the Brotherhood and claim to be The first Necromonger Marshall Cobu the Transcended. Oh and I think Riddick didn't want the tittle Marshall and instead told Vadkko to take him to his planet Furia only what the Necromongers believed it was planet Furia left Riddick there were Vadkko said "you keep what you kill" to Riddick.

I have watched this movie several times, but watching along with you two gave me a much better perspective of the whole vision of the movie. Thank you for a great reaction. I cannot wait till you get to "Riddick", my favorite of the franchise... so far.

So glad you liked this. Such an underrated gem of a universe. Even thought the third installment is not as grand in scale, its still a great continuation. I miss Riddick movies. No idea why it was so hated =( love this movie.
