Goldfinger

yeah i feel like thats the reality of most who watch reactions and commentaries. theyre not actually there to hear a nuanced view, they just want to hear someone agree with their opinion.

The name was in the Ian Fleming novel, and she was a lesbian in the novel. Tilly also survives in the novel. In the novel, Bond works for Goldfinger and the plot was to rob Ft. Knox. This was really the first movie where the plot of the novel was so radically different from the resulting film.

Darren Harrison

Omg that is so ridiculous 😂

Ashkaun

You guys are very brave for saying you like “From Russia With Love” more 😂 . Almost every old head loves Goldfinger the most. The shift in tone is mostly attributed to director Guy Hamilton. Terrence Young directed Dr No, From Russia With Love, and Thunderball. That’s why those films are more serious.

The "James Bond Franchise" took-off from "Goldfinger" and was almost certainly the Largest/Most Profitable of the Several Spy Series over the Last 60-Plus Years...

James Falato

I'd say on the whole, Bond is more often silly than serious, It's almost always behind the ball on the standard for which action scenes are shot. It's never really that suspenseful like a spy movie. But It's truly its own vibe, and I think they are sincere in thinking the goofy stuff is cool, and that's what I find charming about revisiting the classic Bonds.

Kyle B

Maybe, but Timmy also popped a wheely in a semi-truck. It's pretty silly.

Kyle B

If they eventually do 80's Bond, I cannot wait for them to do Octopussy.

Even funnier in the book. Pussy is a lesbian until she has sex with James and she is “ converted to straight

I saw this in the base theater in 1964. Yes, 11-year-olds knew what Miss Galore’s name meant in slang, but my dad had also been stationed in England, and it was very much a double entendre there. Nobody ever accused Fleming of subtlety. I actually saw the Aston Martin DB5 at the New York World’s Fair before I saw the movie. And like every other 11-year-old I had the Corgi toy of the famous Bond car. My dad cared nothing about movies, but he had a prodigious music collection and I listened to Shirley Bassey belt out the theme on dad’s stereo.

Blaise Falling Star

Can't wait for Thunderball!

Peter Dillard

The actress that plays Pussy was the origial female partner in the British series 'The Avengers'.

Peter Dillard

There was a documentary about Ft Knox and the inside does not look like the movie.

Peter Dillard

All of the gold in Ft. Knox belongs to the US. The gold at the FRB in NYC belongs to many countries including the US. I lived in Ft. Knox for a while and the depository really looked like that from the outside. At one point I worked for the FRB in NYC and the gold vault there is REALLY impressive!

Peter Dillard

Where do you think Austin Powers got his mojo from?

The one thing that really bugs me in this movie is the fact that James manages to turn a lesbian straight with the power of Penis... I fuuuucking hate that..

All I know is that if you call a Vietnamese person a “dink” you’ll likely get socked in the face.

Montreal used to have a race track that ran sulky races called Blue Bonnets. My dad was a fan and used to take me there as a small kid and had me run his bets to the betting counter (Yes I was 8years old making bets for my dad, gotta love the 80s). I once asked him if I could make a bet and he gave me 2$ to do what I wanted, I of course picked a horse that was 99-1 and I could see on his face that I was a moron but he didn't say anything and let me make my bet. Turns out I wasn't such a moron as my horse won, however I didn't realize until years later that getting 2 McDonald sundaes on the way home was nowhere near the payout of the win.

Eversharpe

That thumbnail making me feel a certain way

Gryff

LOL, so confident with the "This is Ethel Merman". RIP, Shirley Bassey (she's not really dead.)

Thomas Yanez

Bond films are supposed to be fun not serious, the goofiness is why I like bond films

Matt88g

Who throws a shoe?

Roger Davies

The best bond film.

Roger Davies

I wouldn't say the Bond films necessarily get sillier per say. They tend to oscillate back and forth, some are sillier whilst others like Timothy Dalton are way more serious.

Arcade Sufi

"History Repeating" by Propellerheads Featuring Miss Shirley Bassey.

Dirge Girl

It appears it has been refurbished long since the movie was filmed there. The pool looks quite different I think.

REDR58

I did not have Simone caring so much about Pussy on my Bingo card.

ShoNuff3000

"Skin suffocation" is not a real thing, but some people used to THINK it was real. Like "brain fever" and "hysteria" it's a debunked medical myth. This is the movie that is the most formative in the mythology of James Bond. The super hi-tech car, the numerous gadgets, etc. When people make references or jokes or homages they are almost always to this film instead of the first two. In the original "Goldfinger" novel the plan was to actually steal the gold. It was only while making the film that it was pointed out that this was practically impossible, so it was changed to destroying it instead.

The things the guys are riding on behind the horses are called sulkies. They r used in harness racing, one of the most crooked sports

Thunderball or the Thunderball remake with the superior villainess? Never Say Never Again

jmundt33a

The hotel is the Fontainebleau in Miami. Several movies have been filmed there including The Specialist featuring Sylvester Stallone and Sharon Stone. I stayed there about 20 years ago. It's very bougie. They opened a 2nd one in Las Vegas in 2023.

Sir Friendzone

Re: Pussy Galore -- they knew what they were doing, but Pussy was also a nickname women would have a generation or two earlier like Bunny or Kitty. It's like naming someone Richard Head. It's obviously a joke, but it's not as alien as Pussy Galore sounds today.

Robert Cooper

I actually have the controversial opinion that Thunderball is the best executed Connery film. But I guess it's for Cinebinge to decide for themselves.

Stuart Sutcliffe

Spoiler. The paint was toxic. That was a part of the controversy around this film.

jmundt33a

“Do you expect me to talk?” “No, Miss Swan, I expect you to like and subscribe!”

Jeff K

I can't be the only one bothered that the suspension on that Mustang is obviously all outta whack.

Robert Cooper

Shirley Bassey performed the title song. She's who I think of when I think of Bond theme songs.

Patrick

This is one of my favourite Bond songs
