Well, since you guys asked, just getting back from 7 days around Washington D.C., ready to watch this long awaited, awesome movie. DC is really an amazing city, so many different cool neighborhoods, plus all the obvious tourist stuff. Anybody out there, if you do end up going to DC, make sure you also go to Mt. Vernon and Alexandria, absolutely gorgeous areas full of history.

2025-06-03 18:14:55 +0000 UTCI love that Gyllenhall took his charming, leading man success, and used it to do these weirdo indie films where he really gets to act. If you want to see more of him I'd highly recommend Enemy, directed by Villeneuve, excellent film..probably won't win any polls though.

2025-06-01 03:34:43 +0000 UTCWhen we see the outside of Louis' apartment, it appears he's stealing cable (as there is a splitter outside on the coax line) or more likely sharing/stealing from someone's OTA antenna. All he seems to watch is local news so that's easy enough to get over the air and easier than stealing cable. For a movie that is shot almost entirely at night, it looks great. Just dark enough and not too unrealistically over-lit. Louis is driving a 2012 Dodge Challenger SRT 392 that had an MSRP in for that model year at about $46,000 US. Let's assume he bought it new (the movie started filming in October 2013) and let's also assume that Challenger was supposed to be a "new" car and would cost about $63,000 today. Very good points about the music. It's strangely lighthearted and almost inappropriate, but almost feels like it is themes in Louis' head, like his own heroic music. There is nothing malevolent about it in the least. It is possible to look up some information by searching for car license plate numbers, but as far as I can find, not owner address information. That can be used for accident/insurance information as George suggested. George, the image you recognized of Louis pointing and laughing is sometimes used for the "I see what you did there" GIF meme: https://tenor.com/view/jake-gyllenhaal-stringer-gif-867408694685167559 Purely in story terms, I am so glad Louis did not get his comeuppance. It's refreshing to see the bad guy get away in a movie like this. Ann Cusack, who played "Linda" in the newsroom that George mistook for Annette Bening from "American Beauty" was also in "A League of Their Own" as "Shirley Baker/Left fielder" and she is in "Better Call Saul" as "Rebecca Bois" who was Chuck's ex-wife and a violinist. Ann Cusack is the sister of Joan and John Cusack. Anyway, this was a fantastic film. Somehow I had never heard of it prior to the polls on here! Great reaction as usual.

2025-06-01 00:13:40 +0000 UTCIt's been said, and George even requested seeing a better side of Jake Gyllenhaal, so for that, you need to see PRISONERS, directed by Deni Villeneuve! Another great film, that features Jake paired again with Villenueve is ENEMY. It's such a mind-fuck that it will never win a poll, but Denis is a director who deserves to have his entire filmography explored, in my opinion. I believe the only "major" film that would be left after that is INCENDIES, who's ending will also blow your minds.
