2025-05-31 07:22:14 +0000 UTCI think a lot of your criticisms about the pacing and introduction of characters and background elements that didn't matter that much this season are just victims of one game being split into two seasons. Not that that makes your criticisms less legitimate, the season should stand for itself. Several of your specific criticisms were on things that just don't happen in the game at all so while I still think this season is a fairly good adaptation, it's not as pitch-perfect an adaptation as the first season was for me. I'm particularly bummed that we didn't get anything like as radical but amazing a change as season 1 fleshing out Bill and Frank's love story.

2025-05-30 17:15:35 +0000 UTCWelcome to the 40% mark of the game. This is why this season's pacing seems weird. This season isn't a complete story. That means the typical plot points of a story doesn't apply. The arc of the season has to be artificially imposed. To make this season follow the plot of the game exactly, the season would have to be at least 20 episodes long. The first season was a highly compressed version of game one, but since the story was pretty straight forward, it worked. Game two is much longer and far more complex. It can't be done in a single season—especially when the seasons are so short.

They probably could have doubled the episode count for the season and covered the Abby section of the game and left the culmination to season three, but apparently season four is planned, so we’re going that way. It’ll be fine. The whole show has felt like a speed run of the game to me, like one of those world record beating, “beat TLOU in 30 minutes” things. But I’m not too bugged about it. I’m enjoying it.

I love the Lotr trilogy, but feel the books are clearly better. I'm feeling the exact same about this show. The games are the definitive experience for me, but I'm very much enjoying the show I'm just glad the Lotr trilogy came out when it did. Imagine all the people complaining about Peter Jackson not understanding Frodo's character, it already was bad back then.
