History of the World Part 1 - Uncovered Version

Comments

Mel Brooks THE PRODUCERS (1967) is a must, I also recommend TO BE OR NOT TO BE (1983). It was not Mel Brooks directed, but it stars Mel and his wife Anne Bancroft.

For more Madeline Khan I recommend PAPER MOON (1973)

You really must watch The Producers. It is one of Mel's very best! Gene Wilder (Blazing Saddles) and Zero Mostel (God-tier comb-over) are brilliant together, and there is a scene that makes the Spanish Inquisition from this movie seem perfectly tasteful and sane.

โ€œHey Josephus!โ€ โ€œHey motherfucker!โ€ Favourite joke in the whole movie

"Walk this way" is clearly Mel Brooks' favorite joke. He put it in at least 3 of his films (Frankenstein Jr., Robin Hood and this one). It's a great joke :D

The Producers was a turning point in comedy film and should be required viewing. I personally really like Silent Movie but like this one it can be hit-or-miss on the jokes.

Loved this uncovered version. Mel brooks' producers and silent movie are classics but Dracula, dead and loving it, is a childhood favourite. Leslie neilson from the naked gun is amazing as usual ๐Ÿ˜

Although not my personal favorite of Brooks' movies, this has a staggering number of old-school Jewish comics - too many to list. I am astonished that you didn't seem to recognize that Madame Lefarge was, in fact, Frau Blucher (horse whinnies). Cloris Leachman. One of the old-school comics who must be mentioned, was the head caveman. He was Sid Caesar, who had one of the highest rated TV shows during the 50's, "Your Show of Shows". Brooks started as a writer for Caesar, along with such greats as Woody Allen, Neil Simon and Larry Gelbart. Brooks also quietly produced, along with his wife, several excellent serious films, such as "The Elephant Man", and "84 Charing Cross Road".

I like this format. Gregory Hines (Josephus) was a great dancer. He was also in some good movies. The Cotton Club Tap, with Sammy Davis jr. Running Scared, with Billy Crystal.
