Star Trek the Animated Series: 201-203

As the scriptwriter David Gerrold has said in unrelated works, Bem = Bug Eyed Monster.

It's been said Romulans claim all in their field of vision. That's why they picked a fight with the Enterprise.

Here's the listing of Star Trek in broadcast order (though it only covers up until the 2009 movie): https://startreklist.blogspot.com/2011/04/list-of-all-star-trek-episodes-sorted_05.html Once you get into Season 6 of TNG, if you're continuing in broadcast order, you'll have to start interleaving TNG and DS9. I don't know if you'll bother with the hassle of doing thatβ€”but if I remember correctly, there's at least a few "crossover" events in one show that affect the other, so maybe it'll be worth it?

Lt. Arex, who's the alien navigator on the bridge, is voiced by James Doohan, who plays Scotty. The next time you see Lt. Arex speak, I want you to imagine Scotty making that voice. 🀣

It's a nebula in the opening credits, George, gosh! Wasn't that obvious? /s

tvtropes has it on a page called Eyepiece Prank https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/EyepiecePrank Scrolling down to the western animation section I see some recent examples. I remember seeing it on Ed, Edd, and Eddy in the 2000's.

The original Battlestar Galactica (much as I enjoyed it) was to Star Wars what the Monkees were to the Beatles. It was an (albeit great) knock-off for TV. Although with hindsight having rewatched recently, I didn't realise how sexist a lot of it seems to me now.

Lincynity

I think it was or-yun sabo-taaaj!

Gary Fixler

Kinda like a force field acting as a multidirectional treadmill/lift with XYZ moving axes for each individual in the holodeck? That might explain how people standing at different heights on the deck (in the β€œenvironment β€œ) and /or moving on different directions could be accommodated.

I wonder if they've ever heard of the that old practical joke of greasing up things like binoculars and microscopes, like in Looney Tunes, Tom & Jerry, and The Three Stooges. When it cut to Spock looking in that device, I knew what was going to happen immediately, but now that I think about it, I haven't seen that joke anywhere since probably the 80s. I think it came from a time when people used shoe polish, and just had it laying around.

I just have to tell you guys, respect for sticking with this Star Trek Odin's Day (that's what I call Wednesday because why not?), but I think and hope it will pay off as you get into the movies and other series. And even though I am an unrepentant Star Wars fan, you got my loyalty πŸ€“ I just mention Star Wars because when George said he'd like a crossover, Simone had a look lol. I don't have to choose between them and won't, also, I think Battlestar Galactica is a much more likely crossover with Star Wars. Shit, now that I think of it, it would also be a great crossover with Star Trek. I shouting at the screen so many times that they have already seen Orions before....

The Real Andrew Kim

I will probably recommend this one more time before the films, if you can that is. Try to watch Star Trek the Motion Picture on your biggest screen/TV with darkened (as much as you can so your audience can see you). I didn’t experience the film on debut since I wasn’t alive but years later, and knowing what you are going to see, and to get in what I can imagine the head space of people growing up watching ToS on a small screen to the seeing the film and cinematography on the feature film screen had to be awe worthy. Just a suggestion. It will be an event πŸ––πŸŽ‰

Star Trek Day! πŸ––

SpankTheMonk

4K version of the directors cut just released

SpankTheMonk

When you get to Star Trek: The Motion Picture, watch the Director's cut.

Kurt Hockenbury

Orions, as noted are usually green -- these blue "Or-ee-ons" were finally re-introduced in season 5 of Lower Decks. "BEM" is an old SF term for "Bug Eyed Monster", the stereotypical alien from pulp SF and shlocky movies.

Kurt Hockenbury

they said in another comment earlier its release order.

robodong

i know youre kinda joking but theyve actually answered the "how we met" question multiple times in their Q&A/AMAs done on Patreon

robodong

Has there ever been a Cinebinge origin episode? Is there lore for George and Simone's friendship or is this just a business arrangement? Would I be able to see this info at a higher Patreon level lol?

StonyD

Patiently waiting for the movies....

StonyD

Movies 1-4 occured before TNG. Star Trek V: The Final Frontier was released between seasons 2 & 3 of TNG. Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country released between seasons 4 & 5 of TNG. HOWEVER, movies 1-6 are all the TOS cast and occur chronologically before TNG. So.. for the OG cast movies it will be fine to watch all those before going to TNG. It is only after starting TNG that you should think about watching the movies (ST: 7-10) based on release date. (If you want to be technical, you could even watch the reboot (Kelvin Timeline) movies before TNG since they are the OG characters.

D. T. Nelson

This is indeed the first ever appearance of the Holodeck (although it wasn't called that yet) in Star Trek. Reminds me of how the first ever appearance of Boba Fett was during the animated sequence of the Star Wars Holiday Special :D

Stephen Morris

The crazy thing is the Orions have already appeared in Star Trek: The Original Series. It was in the episodes The Menagerie and Whom Gods Destroy. Also, George just saw an Orion woman in the animated series episode The Time Trap. Basically they're the race of green-skinned humanoids who are most famous for their beautiful green-skinned women.

Jeb Manning

I agree, especially when X and Y happens in TNG…

REDR58

You're already seen Orions, they're the green women and as they mentioned in this episode one was altered to look Andorian in journey to Babel. Why they pronounce it weird in this episode is a mystery.

Lincynity

I'm all for release order but with the movies it's better to watch I to VI. Ii to VI are more or less one continuous story and they close the Original series era. In universe it makes no sense watching the first four then skipping 70 years to TNG then going back 70 years for the other two. Consider the TOS movies a one season please. It makes more sense.

Monica Alarcon

If I'm remembering correctly, the way holodecks work is by using force fields with visuals mapped onto the surface of the force field. Anything you touch or any surface you walk on is an ever-changing force field. Sometimes it's incorrectly depicted as everything being real; but that's more of a limitation of the budget, needs of the story, or a writer's misunderstanding of how it's supposed to work.

CT

going with release order, so first 4 movies, then TNG.

George Simone

yep, apparently Patreon changed the issuing dates for creators and just didnt tell anyone. no email, nothing. so a lot of creators at once were wondering what happened.

George Simone

Are you guys gonna jump straight into TNG or the movies first?

PeppermintWizardOfAus

Question aside. Are your billing issues solved?
