Better Call Saul 509-510

Comments

on all these episodes especially season 5, the bottom of the screen was cut off so you can't see the subtitles.

McShades

I like how Kim looks directly at the camera, the audience, when she is answering "wouldn't I?" when Jimmy is expressing concern about her plans, like she's asking if we've been paying attention. I didn't notice that the first time viewing.

Anthony Villena

I feel like we're not talking enough about Lalo's real victim here, the goldfish.

Gary Fixler

"You know who knew Jimmy? Chuck."

PIG

I believe Kim is attracted to Jimmy because they have underlying commonality. Neither likes to be told by authorities like parents and people in power. When the Mesa Verde guy, Rich, and Howard told her that her problem is Jimmy and she can’t see it it triggers her underlying personality traits of independence and defiance that leans into push back and penalty for them. Similar to Jimmy - Bonnie and Clyde was a great call out by George.

SpankTheMonk

Getting away further is pretty suspicious. When your neighbors house looks like a military base or prison it is time to move. Jimmy doesn’t know who Mike works for- I believe. The pony tail change is a reflection of her unstable situation. For the next season, no spoilers, I thought it was fun that I heard because of COVID the actors who played Saul, Kim and Howard live together in a big house and had a great time even during difficult filming times. The fact that George knew that Bonnie and Clyde syndrome scientific name off the top of his head is interesting 🧐 . Ice cream buffet is 😋

SpankTheMonk

Kim’s acting on answering that phone and to sell Lalo was amazing. Yeah I thought pulp fiction too. Also 7 million looks cool on camera vs a check. The dog biting hand I think reveals that Nacho has been side dealing and Gus has known. Shame we never to see Kim’s company car- unless I missed it. From Jimmy/Sauls perspective of the grind of the courts he doesn’t understand since he has tried, and so has Kim to get better in life and Mesa Verde is such a sweet deal.

SpankTheMonk

im still waiting

benjamin freeman

I agree

streetduck

Once again i will request and recommend "Dark" on netflix. It is unfair how good that show is tbh. i know yall that have watched it agree.

Alexander Stavnsbo

On the subject of cliffhangers... Anyone here play Half Life 2: Episode 2? Been hanging over the edge of that cliff for almost EIGHTEEN FUCKING YEARS NOW!

Justin Leone

I don't know what the plan is after Better Call Saul. But I'd like to nominate the Apple series 'For All Mankind' to get onto a poll. It's about the space program, but in an alternate reality where the Russians made it to the Moon before the US and the space race goes on for several decades. I think you guys would love it.

Brandon

Yes! Recommended it myself a few days ago too. Here for more support😂 It's also a nice way to come down and laugh a bit between the serious shows.

Dragonhunter

One thing to consider with Kim, in addition to her seemingly abrupt turn at the end, is what happens just before she quits. She sees all of the money, and the bullet ridden tumbler, and while initially it may have been frightening, the excitement (along with the Lalo confrontation) emboldens her to commit fully the pro-bono work and the 100K cushion makes that much easier as well. And since this worked so well for her, delivering one of her better recent days of work, the combination of the carrot of the money (and what that greater financial freedom allows her to do) and the satisfaction of being able to use the stick on Howard creates that temptation. She likely also justifies potentially going after Howard by considering how their shenanigans will be offset by her good works, same with her justification of going after the Sandpiper money is balanced by the good it will do for the plaintiffs of the suit. And I do think Jimmy was considering leaving Kim for her own protection but just couldn't do it in the end, and he's genuinely reticent to go after Howard again with her, but like always, his instincts lead him down his own bad choice road.

Matt Landon

Second this.

Matthew Blackwood

I don't remember exactly the story beats of season 6, but I think if you triple up on any episodes, it might be best to do 1, 2, and 3 all together. Then watch two a week from there, and I'm pretty sure all of those two episode chunks will be good pairings.

JT

100%. It also matches perfectly with the flow of the story/episodes for the rest of the season. Ending a week on ep 7, then 8 & 9 together before final 4 episodes in last 2 weeks is the way to go

Jay S

Yes, the red Ferrari is the same kind Magnum drove in the original Magnum, PI. It wasn't his, but belonged to the owner of the estate he worked at. An iconic car for anyone old enough to remember the show. Also, portable cell towers exist, they are brought into disaster areas for example. I'm assuming something similar was used to contact Nacho.

Angzarr

This is a shot in the dark, but I would love it if you guys would consider putting a Nathan Fielder show on your list. I'm thinking specifically of "Nathan for You" and also "The Rehearsal" which is running it's second season right now. Both shows are masterpieces and have a lot more depth than it seems.

Jesse Coombs

There's SO many of those gems! "I once told a woman I was Kevin Costner, and it worked because I believed it."

Angzarr

The red Ferrari 308 QV GTSi that Don Eladio is gifted is indeed from the 1980-1988 series “Magnum p.i.”: https://youtu.be/xIaXl7SqkBw?si=I-ZtCaIJyNtg_AVl The series is a lot of fun and was recorded on film so a number of years ago, it was re-released in HD and it looks amazing for a 1980s TV show. Especially as it was filmed on location in Hawaii. Funny thing about the car, actor Tom Selleck who plays Magnum, is 6 foot, 4 inches tall (1.93 meters) tall and could barely fit in the Ferrari 308 so he always drove the car with the removable rood panels off and the driver’s seat was modified to accommodate his height as much as possible. There were also a number of different models years and variants of the 308 in the series that Magnum drives.

REDR58

Also when they first appear in the show, I think it was implied that that it was a stolen military model. Even if it wasn't legal it's not going to stop Mike or the Cartel. But there are plenty of legit uses for such a thing, as you say. I believe it's fairly common for shipping containers with high-value goods to have tracking devices for example.

Angzarr

So the way the US bail system works (in most states) is that bail is required to be paid in cash. You can’t use a check or debit/credit card. You can sometimes also put up collateral (like your house). If you’re charged with a small crime you can often a “PR” bond which doesn’t require any payment. But yeah if its a felony, cash is gonna be required. If you don’t have the cash then you get a bail bondsmen and they’ll get you out by paying 10% of the bail and then they take on the responsibility of making sure you don’t flee.

Daniel Bjork

When I first saw episode 10, I sat straight up in my seat when Kim did the "but what if we do this?" thing that Jimmy has done to her more than once. It plants a seed of an idea into her head that she can't stop thinking about. Her doing the same thing to him is a wild shift for her character. The way they filmed the scene, with the sheets partially covering her face was a real 'chef's kiss' moment for me.

Brandon

Here's a thought: since Season 6 of BCS has 13 episodes, let's start the season with 3 episodes. You'll be happy you did.

DinChild

The ending of episode 9 is the best drama. I had to watch that ending twice to your reaction. Simone and George thinking Kim going to get shot at the door, I'm like "why do you gotta be so negative?" lol Just something I'm thinking whenever a reactor says "something bad going to happen. Everything's too happy right now" and I'm like "there you go with that negativity again." lol Your reactions made the episodes more exciting. Lalo is in a way likable but you're always reminded he is not a good person. "Even Satan comes as an Angel of light." George made a good point about Lalo not believing Jimmy made it back alive with the money. Lalo find's Jimmy's car shot up making Lalo suspicious of how did Jimmy survived. The only reason Jimmy is alive is because of Mike, but then again, Gus set up the ambush to make it not look so easy. Lalo going back into the house reminds me of how he got the bell for Hector. You two are waiting five weeks to watch the final season. S5 came out in February 2020. We didn't see the final season till 2022.

Redrum Sacrament

In the second episode of Season 1, Jimmy talks Tuco down from killing him and the skateboard guys and here Kim tops him by telling Lalo to get his $hit together if he can't even trust his own men to deliver his bail...upping the ante...BOSS move

Actuarial Lurker

After season 6 can we get another show with a likeable character named Mike? It’s a nice Tuesday pick me upper to hear Simone and George say nice things like Mike is awesome Mike is cool we love Mike. 😂

MikeBdrx

I’m so stoked we are here. I said back in S1 that Nacho and Howard have 2 of the best arcs in the whole show/BB universe and next season is the proof of the pudding. Cannot wait to watch it with you guys!

Parabolica

As an aside, this is the first time I recall seeing Simone in a short sleeve shirt in a while. Summer is officially here on Cinebinge!

Jeff I.

Severance is such a weird, miserable show. I do not see the appeal.

Paul T Hewes

Apparently it is illegal for a radar detector to be “readily accessible to the driver or any of the passengers in the vehicle” in Virginia, but I suppose you can carry one in your trunk! https://www.virginia-criminallawyer.com/virginia-traffic-lawyer/speeding-ticket/radar-detectors/ Coincidentally, the only speeding violation I have ever (allegedly) received in my 33 years of driving was in Virginia. It was on a highway where the posted speed limit suddenly dropped and I was not the only one that got hit, so I assume it was a speed trap. Damn Virginia. Yet another reason to stay out of that state! As far as I can tell it is legal to possess and use a radar detector in the other 49 US states. These days I just use Waze.

REDR58

The trackers aren't only used for stalking, they can be used to track your own possessions, think if someone steals your motorcycle, or other high value assets. And it's not beyond possibilities that these people can source restricted equipment from arms dealers and such anyway.

BangDroid

I wish you'd jump right away into season 6, like its the finale, having a fresh perception would be good, <3

elias rinis

Universal just dropped the new trailer for Nobody 2 with Bob Odenkirk today.

BigGuy209

Just like radar detectors, GPS are not inherently illegal, just how you use them that could be. So there is no reason why they could not be sold to the public.

Vwlss Nvwls

Btw, in episode 9, Kim puts on the movie “His Girl Friday” (1940) with Cary Grant and Rosalind Russell. Definitely one to watch. Vehicle trackers are used by car dealers to locate and repossess cars whose owners fall behind on payments. In some cases the tracker is tied into the car’s electrical system and if the tracker is removed, the car won’t start. Anyone operating a business with fleet vehicles can have use for trackers. The owner wants to make sure his employees are going where they’re supposed to be going, etc. Also tracking the vehicles for security purposes. Private people use vehicles trackers to help recovery of the car if stolen (“LoJack” is one example). A car‘s owner make get an insurance discount for using such a device. Parents may use a vehicle tracker to keep track of their teenage drivers. Vehicle trackers are helpful in locating a vehicle if it gets lost during an emergency (“OnStar” is such a service). There are any number of reasons you can legitimately use a vehicle tracker.

REDR58

Oh, I wish you were going straight into Season 6!! (I could never get into Severance.)

Aaron

I feel so bad for Sauls fish, damn... get some plants in there. ANYTHING.

Thall

everyone needs a kim in their life

David Bencze

Hey, as an aside, the trailer for “Nobody 2” just dropped a few hours ago for anyone who is interested: https://youtu.be/-5X2pt95cIo?si=QFVt57kLEf0TclKm

REDR58

1:06:38 "Kim in a way saved Lalo's life". It's more like she saved their own lives in my opinion. Jimmy suggested that if Lalo is there for the money then go and look in the bag, its all there. That is when Kim stood up nervously, because the shot cup is still there. If Lalo indeed check the bag, he would know Jimmy is lying, so she had to jump in. Also i believe that Mike is not there to kill Lalo if things go wrong. For Gus, Lalo can not die in the USA. It is grimm but more likely Mike was there to shoot Jimmy if he breaks down and starts to tell the truth.

Areokh

Before more “prestige” series like Severance and the like, I don’t think I had as much anticipation between seasons as TNG’s “Best of Both Worlds” parts 1 and 2.

REDR58

The judge ordered it to be paid in cash, because they know who Lalo is, at least some of it. Since it's basically impossible for anyone to come up with 7 million in cash within a few days, it's the legal way of going "You get bail, but not really"

Thall

Join the rest of us with your crush on Kim, George. Amazing character, brilliantly performed.

Helly R

The judge ordered that the bail be paid in cash by the way

Ashton Lewis

You are quite on the money, Kim is certainly attracted by the illegal and that cartel business put minor crimes back in perspective. How lucky is Saul, that she has his back?^^ Something to keep in mind from previous episodes, is Kim's past as well, she had to grow up faster and be on her own. Being with a negligent mother and that. She stands up for the little guys with her pro bono work, and also wants to do that for Jimmy. Howard and Chuck certainly often belittled both of them, or at least that is Jimmy's perspective she sees now. Lalo is a charming menace, love that creeper.

Philipp Roensch

God. Sopranos would be amazing! The show that tops nearly every 'best show in history' list. (With Breaking Bad usually coming in second)

TGrimace

Also: Tony Dalton is so unfairly charismatic. There is no reason for such a terrifying character like Lalo to still be so damned charming. It's simply not fair.

Jeff K

I totally forgot that Roy Wood Jr was in this show (the attorney Kim meets with in the stairwell about doing public defender stuff). Gilligan and Gould really do love working with standup comics.

Jeff K

So after you finish the final season of Better Call Saul, I hope you consider Sopranos or Sons of Anarchy as your next big TV series.

Deadly Ramon

My only issue with cliff hangers is when the show gets cancelled without a resolution.

JohnB

Never even NOMINATED for cinematography. One of the best looking shows ever on television.

Kevin

They trick us, we have actually been watching Kim break bad the whole time. :)

CJ

Better call kim

J. Valentine

53 Emmy nominations and zero wins, Better Call Saul has a record for the most-nominated show to never win an Emmy. Can you BELIEVE they never won? I lost all faith in the Emmys

TGrimace

ya literally not the case. courts accept debit, checks and drafts.

robodong

EP 9 is were Kim became my fav character by a long shot.

Martin Roca

I still love how two throwaway lines from Breaking Bad where Walter and Jesse kidnap Saul Goodman: Jimmy - “No. It wasn’t me. It was Ignacio.” And later… Jimmy - “Lalo didn’t send you? No Lalo?” basically were the prompt for Vince Gilligan and company to create Nacho and Lalo, two of the best characters in Better Call Saul.

mojo shivers

Guys it's a CASH bail/bond--it's the only thing the court accepts

leeba

There is somebody who will comment just how long it took between S5 and S6. Season 6 was delayed because of the Pandemic and also Bob Odenkirk had his heart attack while filming also. I'm sure you guys have it figured out but S6 is 13 episodes and I like your 2 a week and saving the final one as a stand alone. It really works out how the show plays out also.

Mike Medaugh

Kim is simply made of sterner stuff.

Jeff K

Kim v Lalo in Bad Choice Road top 5 scene of the show.
