Directember: Penalization

I have no insightful comments about this one, I just think Pintsize throwing his own head at Marten is a very funny gag. I always imagined his “skin” feeling like those shitty rubber-coated ballpoint pens you use at banks or car dealerships or the like. And I guess all his processing stuff was in his old body? But sometimes not? I played it pretty fast and loose with the robot stuff for the first few thousand comics. God every part of that phrase is weird when you really think about it. My job is weird. My life is weird.

He probably would, anyway, and then have to deal with the consequences...

Hugh Eckert

I _knew_ that there was a problem with giving Pintsize a human-style chassis: he probably can't do that any more.

Ursus Ridens

Pintsize's face here always gave me a "not angry, just *disappointed*" vibe

tellumo

I love that it takes up the last two panels like it takes several seconds for Pintsize to do it

Craig Griffith

Do you ever miss writing for the old pintsize body? It feels like it lent itself to very slapstick/absurd humour

SheepFace2000

Ideally it would just work without glitching...

Yulia

Weird is good, weird is very good. It's what makes life bearable. Please continue being weird.

alphanor

I find that hitting refresh once or twice will go from the cloudflare page to the comic.

alphanor

Ball-peen hammer! (badum-ching!)

YsabetJustYsabet

Questionable Domain?

Duncan

King Missile!

William Cole

After it didn't work in my main browser, I used opera with adblock and I had the same problem.

Yulia

I would recommend uBlock Origin for the ads at least.

allanfranta

I could be remembering wrong, but I think the military one was bought for a repair and not the one he has at the start.

Bill Silvia

The title just brought to mind the old detachable penis song. What a weird thing to recall.

Brian Appel

Your weirdness embiggins us!

Fennec12

Paging through the other strips around this: it's funny, I had thought that Marigold didn't get together with Dale until after Angus left, partly because he's nowhere to be seen in the strip where Dale stays over and makes pancakes. I guess he found somewhere else to be? xD (I mean, I'd say he stayed over at Faye and Marten's but he doesn't really pop up there either)

enchantedsleeper

But Pintsize's chassis was originally military - and isn't that cited as a reason why he could withstand a lot of Faye beat-ups? I always thought the silver parts of his body were purely metal, too, though I imagined the green parts were more rubbery.

enchantedsleeper

I mean Delilah also doesn't strike me as the type to let a guy go ahead if he doesn't

enchantedsleeper

So, more likely a Werner Herzog documentary.

Mark Eichin

You could have the processing be in the head, but the body’s able to be controlled via Bluetooth or similar.

Dissociated Women Incorporated

Jeph - the website's been down off and on for a couple of days, just as an fyi (You probably already know lol)

Onyx

you know it's funny, looking back over these older comics, especially that first page, I recall seeing the art as it gradually changed and got better, can y'all believe that I was initially against the first art improvement when it changed from everyone being pasty white to having skin colors? ~<3

Mitsuki Ayane

Are you talking about the pens with the ergonomic grips? I liked those. We used to have those bare plastic Bics and have to try to hold onto them with our sweaty little fingers because the schools weren't air conditioned.

Halloween Jack

Congrats, y'all. We've crashed QC trying to backtrack to the sloppy makeouts Edit: QD to QC. Bloody autocorrect

Brian Yaras

I usually have the QC archive open on a second monitor so I can follow BookBeard's links without going away from Patreon - but Cloudflare claims that it is working, and the problem is an Error 522 from questionablecontent.net. Oh how I miss it!

Charles Hirst

I’m gonna go ahead and agree with Jeph. That throw was an incredible gag.

legobil

It seems sensible to me that the head and body could be wirelessly linked. A Wi-Fi spectrum jammer could render him paralyzed when unlinked.

Shane Wegner

On my browser the feed showed only the second panel, and I thought "Oh, this one!" And I'm not alone in this.

ValdVin

NSA hookups? I think those are called wiretaps.

Mirage the Fennec

Another QC I’d categorize as “Old Relatable.” Problem with not being into NSA hookups is you have to try one to find out. I had to wrack my brain and finally archive-dive to figure out who this was. Padma? No, it was granola Delilah. Remember Padma, though? Is that the first time we see Marten being straight shitty? Good times. I keep editing this stupid comment. I’m now in a full archive binge. Jimbo having a BSOD looking at the fancy beer menu is a moment!

will davison

Nah, Marty is responsible enough to wrap it up

Adam with two As, a D, and an M

With Pintsize, NOTHING is a metaphor.

William Cole

I wonder what that is in QC time. I sometimes wonder if she’s going to show up with a “surprise” for Marten. (Probably not since that would radically change the strip, but I do wonder….)

That Blair Guy

I like new Pintsize better, but they're both good!

jonesnori

Intentionally so, of course!

jonesnori

You're not wrong. Metal dents if it's thin enough, unlike most plastic! And it can be coated in rubberized plastic, too. Fits in with Pintsize having a cheap chassis.

Yugo Nakai

Always thought 'giving head' was just a metaphor.

Sleepy John

Just like what passes for reality these days😏.

FreeReedz

I always assumed his processing was just distributed, so processing of visual data and speaking (maybe hearing, though I prefer the idea that he has auditory receptors everywhere) was handled in the head, and movement was handled in the body, with planning and the like being dispersed throughout his body. Kinda like the Founders on DS9 now that I think about it.

James Anthony

10 years later..."Delilah! her name was Delilah!"

Mad Marie

I always thought of him as metallic! But that made the whole "punch Pintsize, make a dent" seem odd. Shouldn't people injure their fist? But then... cartoon logic. I guess finding out he was never metal kinda makes sense?

SilverbackRon

Come on Pintsize, that's no way to get aHEAD in life. https://www.questionablecontent.net/view.php?comic=21

BookBeard

Happy weird day to you, happy weird day to you, happy weird day, dear Ben, happy weird day to you.

SilverbackRon

I loved seeing Marten grow up a bit.

Maurice Kessler

Worse if Marten catches the head, which then says, "Get ready for a surprise!"

Sean Kinlin

The nuke could only be armed when the head was attached.

Captain Button

If it's anything like when he was still using it, it's mostly pigeons. https://www.questionablecontent.net/view.php?comic=3087 https://www.questionablecontent.net/view.php?comic=3768

BookBeard

Who was Winslow's cricket who got fried in someone's motherboard?

Captain Button

Marten was supposed to be matched with a robobluewhale

Captain Button

And all of us weirdos are SO very grateful to be along for the wild, wonderful, weird ride!

Melissa Wilson

This...THIS is the Pintsize I like to see. Humanoid Pintsize is, I dunno, kinda disturbing.

Kevin McCarthy

Well, for the person catching it, it certainly is one way to get a head!

BobC

Ursula *was* briefly his head, so technically it's the same technique. https://www.questionablecontent.net/view.php?comic=2649

BookBeard

I kinda miss the old antics with Martin more or less being on his own. Kinda like that was the base. Whole different feeling now that we swap perspectives all the time. I'm certainly not complaining though.

Xionwalker

... and I see he already did, just before I could complete my answer. Excellent.

Clifton Royston

The longer you live the weirder it gets. I have 74 years of weird.

Ben R

This is covered somewhere long ago, in a conversation between Marten, Pintsize, Momo, and I think Claire. The "adoption" agency had the spider-robot-AI guy do an EEG readout on Marten, and - as Momo explains - because Marten was paralyzed with fear of the giant spider, all the measurements were wrong. As a result, the agency mistakenly matched up Pintsize and Marten thinking they would be a good match. Pintsize was a lot more aggrieved about it than Marten when he heard that he could have been matched with someone better suited. BookBeard can probably give you the chapter and verse.

Clifton Royston

To make a long story short, it's all Gordon's fault. https://www.questionablecontent.net/view.php?comic=2336

BookBeard

Considering Pintsize's personality I always wondered how they wound up together.

Steve McSheffrey

Waiting for the Attenborough documentary on the strange biota living in Pintsize's old head.

Doc Gumby

Weird, but in a REALLY good way. This whole community is weird and I'm totally here for it.

Andrew Mitchell

I really wanted to read that storyline again but the website kept glitching. Pages would load with all the ads but without the comic and one time I got a cloudfare time out page... I wonder what's up with that.

Yulia

I'd imagine that having a detachable head like that would mean that the both his body and head can communicate wirelessly and to a degree operate independently. I.e. pintsize can toss his head and still control his body to walk over and put it back on.

Eric Pike

I'm so glad you're so weird. 😁

Typherix

As much trouble as Pintsize causes, I have to imagine the whole body is a remote.

Randall Norman Pick

it's a funny gag but also the characters are being themselves and that's the strength of the comic which isn't weird at least not to me. Also not so much weird, but talented and lucky and a bit imposter-syndrome maybe. Artists should be treated as just like any other profession, that they aren't is the weird thing.

SpookyPenguin

Probably before his chassis was demilled, his detachable head was a nuclear weapon.

Summer

I kinda miss Pintsize being....pintsized

beanabaybee

You just know that if Yay ever got official (or excellent counterfeit) documents, their middle name would be 'Our".

Amelia Lewis

I just assumed he was plastic

Joseph Unrein

It would also be completely in character for Pintsize now.

Amelia Lewis

Ow.

Nikki

Luckily we all seem to really enjoy weird!

Darren Franzen

My job is weird, my life is weird is a whole mood. Wouldn't change a thing

chubbygoomba

A side effect of making all the robots more human looking, is these jokes would be more horrifying. Pintsize throwing his head now would have slightly different implications

Cariad

Ah, the ol' Pop-n-Bop!

Zig Justice

I never thought of this Pintsize as having "skin." I always thought of him as being made of some sort of aluminium alloy.

Bill Silvia

Later, he just uses Ursula to express his displeasure

Taigan

It really was a funny gag, and your sharing of the body texture just makes it funnier.

Steve Graves

Yay, weird! Also; Yay? Weird.

Andrew Denton

You know, that’s exactly how I imagined his skin as well. Kinda weird.

Brian

weirdly awesome

Brendan Luster

Good job he upgraded to the new chassis! He’d be all sticky and flaking by now.
