2024-11-24 07:33:15 +0000 UTCIt's tricky. "Get your head on straight" in response to ADHD manifestations is kind of like saying "get motivated" to someone with depression. Both are possible, but not straightforward, and it's easy to fall into a spiral of self hate when you fully intend to not forget the things, to be places on time, to do the boring but necessary tasks, but continue to fail and disappoint others and yourself over and over and over again. It's extraordinarily hard to find a place where you can both accept responsibility for the consequences of your disability and strive to make amends, while not internalizing any associated shame, and simultaneously exploring ways to train yourself like you'd train a dog for the most important stuff.
