A cold beverage "sweating" has no effect whatsoever on the amount of liquid in the beverage. But she also occasionally springs a leak, so there's some loss there, too.

So I think that it's less directly converting salt into energy, and just that all of her electrical processes run through her fluids; she salted up to make sure they conduct properly. My guess is her body loses goop throughout the day naturally (similar to how a cold beverage "sweats") so she fills it up before bed to make sure she's not deflated in the morning.
