Upvoted, but I think Marten expressed things clearly without explicitly saying so. (If I'm misreading you you can ignore my babble.) He implied and she correctly inferred. (Then he played it dignified, like a skinny indie-rock body guy would, when he found out he wasn't her type.)
I make this statement as a guy whose people-reading skills have allowed me to miss these kinds of signals from a couple of women. If a woman said to me what Marten said to Abby back there it'd likely have gone right over my head.

Abby sems to be fixated on Martens non-existent pass from many months ago. In actuality, as demonstrated by a reread of the pertinent comics, there may have been some attraction on Marten's part, but he did nothing to follow up on it, or even express it to Abby. He has nothing to feel guilty about, and it's pretty obvious from her over-the-top sarcasm, that Claire is not concerned about Marten's feelings toward Abby.
