I really like Brun, she's the most like me of any of the QC characters. Quiet, hates mornings, has more going on in their life than they let on, probably autistic, loves bread with a passion, and so on.
Anyway, thank you Jeph for making such a diverse cast of characters that many people can see themselves in your work. :)

Raisins in bread might as well be cake. Just admit you'd rather be eating cake.

You people are all obviously eating the wrong raisin bread. Dry? Nasty? With crunchy raisins? Where are you getting this, at the Inept Bakery? Try rich, cinamonny, egg laden bread with raisins which were soaked a bit before being added to the dough, to plump them up and release their fruit flavour. If you STILL dislike it, then that’s fine, you’ve done your part.

We already knew from when she lost her job, her apartment, and all her possessions that Brun processes loss by shutting language down entirely and seeking solitude. This is pretty good. She doesn't scream, flail, cut, ask what she has done to deserve this, or collapse into depression. She loses speech for a while, goes off by herself till it comes back, and then sets about setting things as right as possible. That works.
What was striking is that she knew exactly how she was going to handle loss. Now we know how she knew.

On a freshly toasted slice, those little devils can still be burning hot... so I guess they could be similar to the use of candle wax in other recreational pursuits?

Renee has long ago taken a liking to Brun, by the protective manner she took when Brun told her about Clinton's supportiveness when the bar burnt down. Do you think they knew each other from school or something? Prior to her father's, or her mother's passing?

Not until after Elliot realises that his rebound bread-sex only 'relationship' with Roko probably isn't good for either of their long-term emotional health.

Privilege is a weird thing, in that it's completely invisible until we encounter folks without it. Then we have the stage of seeing and acknowledging the differences. And then we have the stage of figuring out where the hell to go from here.
Since we can't "give" folks privileges they've never experienced, the only rational step is to try to separate ourselves from our privileges, and see where that takes us. To see if we can acquire a new perspective.
Both Brun and Clinton seem to be doing well so far.

Here's a prediction: Clinton decides that Brun needs a hug. She asks him (in her usual way) if this is a socially-appropriate gesture of support or a prelude to a sexual advance. Clinton confirms that it's a gesture of support and so she feels safe to reciprocate, remarking that she isn't ENTIRELY opposed to the latter from him. Elliot comes over and it kind of breaks his heart because, as always, he's making assumptions without context.

That being said, raisin bread really should be toasted, and served with lashings of butter. Or if you're gonna eat it untoasted, it still needs lashings of butter. Raisin bread on its own is dry and a bit nasty.

So, Brun's an orphan and lost both her parents before she was twenty (or ~5 years ago in-universe). Oddly enough, the first thing that popped into my head is: Has she been essentially on her own since then? Y'see, Panel 3 makes me think that no-one has ever offered Brun emotional support; it's still painful for Brun but I get the impression that someone taught her that it is something that she keep away from social contacts. FWIW, I've wondered for a while if her former employer at The Nasty Whale may have been a relative of some kind but his actions to date really don't suggest that he's someone who'd be inclined to help a damaged young adult deal with grief that her brain can probably only barely process.
All that aside, I'd really like to hear Brun's analysis of raisins and why she doesn't like them. The fact that it took so many slices to decide does suggest it was a fairly close outcome!
