The Monke King: Ch.29
Added 2025-05-15 21:07:56 +0000 UTCThe Supreme Kais, also known as the divine gods that overlooked the universe. They live in the afterlife in their own dimension where they could oversee the universe and watch out for any threats to it.
At least, that's how I remember them being in Z before Super and all its spin-offs stuff came along, after which I don't even know what they were there for anymore.
The room was silent as we looked at the Kais, watching as the taller Kibito looked back at us with a scowl while Shin had a soft smile on his face.
The next moment, I appeared in front of them and blocked both Trunks' sword slash with the Power Pole while gripping Cell's foot, to which both of them looked surprised as I frowned and shook my head.
“If they were with Babidi, I would be dead. Now, calm down, please,” I asked, watching as both stared at me before smiling in relief as Trunks pulled his sword back while Cell lowered his leg.
“Wait, where the hell did you even get that?”
“Wedding gift from Mom,” Trunks answered with a shrug as he sheathed his sword before I turned to see Shin and Kibito's eyes wide as I looked at them with a frown.
“So…who are you guys?”
“A-Ahem! Right, my name is Shin and I am what one would call a…cosmic observer.”
“You should know that our people do not like it when people lie to us so please, tell the truth,” Cell spoke up and I nodded as Shin looked at him with a grimace before nodding.
“Very well. My name is Shin, but I am what is known as a Supreme Kai.”
“Oh, like King Kai?”, Bulma asked and Shin smiled as he shook his head.
“That is the Kai overseeing the Northern Quadrant, yes? Well, us Kais have ranks and the one you all know as King Kai is one of the four Quadrant Kais. Above those four Kais is the Grand Kai that also acts as their overseer. Above the Grand Kai are us Supreme Kai in the order of the Supreme Kai or Supreme Kais' assistants, the Four Supreme Kais of the Four Quadrants and finally, the Grand Supreme Kai.”
'…I did not know it was that in-depth,' I thought as I heard Shin's explanation as I could faintly recall the other Supreme Kais, but still hearing it spoken aloud by Shin himself just made it hit in a different way.
“Normally, we do not intervene as we must allow the balance of the universe to play out naturally, but a few days ago, we felt a surge of dark magic on the planet that we have seen only in one specific being.”
“I'm guessing it's Babidi?”, Videl asked and Shin nodded with a sigh.
“The very same. That warlock should have been long extinct as I was the one who killed him or at least, I thought I was, but it appears that he or at least someone very much like him has appeared once again.”
“When you say that he uses dark magic, what kind are we talking about here?”, I asked and I watched as Shin frowned while Kibito scrunched his face in disgust.
“The most vile of magic. He has the unique ability to warp the mind of others, feed upon their deepest darkest secrets and offers them immense power in exchange for their minds, bodies and souls.”
“I'm guessing this power is limited to the peak of what their bodies can handle until he needs to use someone as a sacrificial pawn or else their energies would be sensed across the planet, right?”, I said, nodding as Shin just nodded in agreement with a smile.
“That is correct, yes.”
“So, instead of genocidal androids, it's typical wizard crap. Just fun,” Trunks muttered as he sat down on the edge of the seat, drawing a slight scowl from Kibito at the crass language before I turned to Vomi as she spoke.
“So, what is your plan of action? Are you here to help or just to observe and let us figure it out?”
“Since Babidi was a monster that I myself decided to deal with, we shall help you all. Unfortunately, Babidi has grown craftier over the centuries as I could not find any sign of his energy at all.”
“How old is this Babidi, if I may ask?”
“Approximately, 4 to 5 million years old, I believe,” He answered and I just stared at the Kai before palming my face with both hands.
“Anyone else just got a very powerful headache?”
“Yep/ Uh-huh/ Do we still have pain medication, Cell?”, I heard Erasa ask at the end, making me smirk as I looked back up towards the Kais.
“Okay, then. So, you sensed his energy a few days ago, but now, it's nothing?”
“That is correct. For a brief moment, Babidi's magic flared up as if he was performing some kind of ritual or spell, but afterwards, it has been silent.”
“Well, that could mean that he's either cast a spell, resurrected something or cloaked himself. Wait, since you two may know, do you know what a Majin Buu is?”, I asked and was not surprised like the others when Shin's face froze in shock while Kibito paled.
“Uh, it's that bad?”, Erasa asked, snapping Shin from his shock as he focused on me with an intense gaze.
“Where did you hear that name?”
“We were attacked for the first time by a member of Babidi's group earlier today and when I fought him, he spoke of how everyone is going to fall under the rule of Babidi and Majin Buu. I just wished to know how this is going to affect my people.”
“It is not a good thing at all. Majin Buu is a creature of pure devastation. It is not bound by reason, morality or purpose. It exists only to destroy worlds, civilizations and even entire galaxies if that amuses it,” Kibito spoke up and I caught the hints of fear in his voice while watching Shin take a shaky breath.
“So, you're telling me that there's someone worse than the Androids we had to struggle with for the past thirteen years?”, Mom asked with a frown and Shin shook his head.
“Majin Buu is not someone. It is a mistake that was born from dark magic and refined over millions of years by Babidi's father, Bibidi. When Buu was unleashed…there were five of us Supreme Kais and I was the only one who survived containing it.”
“Does that mean that this thing is still out there?”
“Yes,” Shin answered Cell's question with a simple nod, the Android frowning as the Kai looked to all of us. “It cannot be killed as it is in nigh-immortal. We barely sealed it and that was after it devoured two of the Supreme Kai, killed the third and absorbed the Grand Supreme Kai. I had thought that Babidi would not do so, but it appears I may have underestimated his hatred to us Kais.”
“Okay, okay, hold on. You said he devoured two of your kind? Did he like…ate them or something?”, Bulma asked and we watched as Kibito stepped forward.
“No, Majin Buu absorbed them and when it absorbs something, his core remains unchanged, but he takes on their power, intelligence and even their mannerisms.”
“Sounds like a more deranged version of someone we know,” I murmured as I looked to Cell, who grimaced as he nodded beofre I turned to Shin.
“I have just one question before we start this hunt for Babidi.”
“Ask away.”
“Why now? If he wanted to unseal Buu, why wait until this very moment to revive him?”, From what I can remember of Dragon Ball Z, Babidi needed an absurd amount of energy to pour into Buu's core to unleash him, but with how the Androids and I have fought over the years, he should have more than enough energy.
No, there must be something else.
“There are two things that are needed to awaken Majin Buu. The first is a tremendous accumulation of energy, released slowly through acts of violence death or rage.”
“Okay, and what's the second?”, I asked and watched as Shin let out a sigh before looking directly at me.
“The death of the one who sealed him.”
“…That would be you, then?”, I asked and nodded as Shin just gave a wry smile.
“Okay, then. You can just stay in whatever dimension you got until we finish this and if not, we all can just hang out in that dimension until we figure out how to make him not unseal Buu.”
“That would be the best situation if not for a certain problem,” Shin spoke with a grimace and I pinched the bridge of my nose before speaking.
“What's the problem?”
“…I'm already dying.”
“…Care to run that by us again?”, Trunks asked, wanting to make sure we all heard that right while I hid my shock as this was a far divert from how it went in the show.
Guess canon really is out the window.
“At the same time that I sealed away Majin Buu and 'killed' Babidi, he placed a curse on me. It was one that laid dormant and in wait for millions of years until I felt him flared his energy. When I tried to see what it was, I found that my life force has been linked to Buu's seal and that it has been slowly draining away my life-force.”
“But…aren't you supposed to be a god?”, Vomi asked, her brows furrowed as the rest of us nodded. “Can't you…undo it, I suppose?”
“If I could, I would have the moment it activated, but this spell predates my existence. From what I've sensed, it was most likely created by Babidi's father Bibidi, who was almost billions of years old and it's designed to end my life without triggering a universal imbalance.”
“…How long do we have?”
“Three weeks,” Kibito answered and I just sat back down with a sigh while looking up at the ceiling as I heard Bulma beginning to panic.
“Three weeks~ Three weeks! That's not nearly enough time. Not to find Babidi or this Buu or do anything.”
“Then we make time,” I cut in, drawing their attention as I felt the rough beginnings of a plan forming.
“Babidi's attack on us was a declaration of war so we treat it as such. Bulma, Vomi, I want you three to make me drones that can scan the planet's crust for any signs of unnatural energy zones, whether they be natural, magic or ki-based. Have them prioritize the dead zones and get them airborne. If Babidi's hiding, he's in a place no one would look in for a long time.
Erasa, Videl, coordinate our information and logistic networks. If Babidi is sending any pawns like the one from earlier, people will have noticed the different signs.
Cell, start running diagnostics on Shin's vitals and his energy. Maybe there's a way we can interrupt the curse or figure out a pattern that we can exploit and extend his life.”
“You would do that for a being you just met?”, Shin asked, looking surprised as I turned and smiled.
“You're trying to help me protect my people. That's good enough for me.”
“…You are just like your father, Son Gohan.”
“Thanks,” I thanked him before he turned to Cell as he walked closer with an arm band, snapping it onto his wrist before taking out his portable scanner.
“You heard the leader. I'm going to need you to not glow or levitate or use any energy for the next hour while that band scans everything I need. Kibito, would it be possible for you to subject yourself to the scanning process as well so that I may see what the regular vital signs should look like.”
“If it would result in Lord Shin surviving, do as many tests as you may need, Android named Cell,” Kibito spoke with a deep bow and I just looked to Shin who chuckled softly.
“Kibito is a loyal friend that has been at my side since I became the only Supreme Kai.”
“Got it.”
“What if this Majin Buu is unsealed? What is your plan then, King Gohan?”, Bulma asked as she looked at me and I smirked as I simply tapped the Power Pole against my shoulder.
“If he does, I'll do what I do best: Make sure his existence is erased for all of eternity. However, I'm holding out hope that if we do everything we can to stop this resurrection, none of us will have to worry about anything,” I answered and she smirked as she nodded.
“Good answer. I'll get started on the drones. Trunks, time to put those lessons I thought you to good use.”
“I'll alert the satellite grid and pull planetary weather data. If Babidi's hiding his ritual site, I'll find the blind spot.”
“We'll get started on that network thing,” Videl spoke up and I watched as she and Erasa left while activating their communicators before looking out the meeting window at the blue sky.
Yeah, this time…this time, I'll make sure we win.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
“…Well, this week couldn't have gone any better,” I muttered as I floated in the skies above my castle at the far northern edge of the Monke Kingdom, watching the streaks of white energy lighting up the dark skies as people flew back to their homes.
It's been a week since the end of the meeting and so far, the planet has been nothing but chaos as everyone on the outskirts of the Monke Kingdom have been called in to it right as Bulma had activated what she called The Second Wall.
Essentially, it was just a gigantic circular energy wall made to surround the entire Kingdom along with the villages outside of its walls. It was not just the wall as both the walls along with the skies above and the ground below was protected with a powerful energy barrier being powered by a group of Dragon Warriors 24/ 7 that changed every six hours.
Considering the wall took a full-on punch from Trunks in his Super Saiyan form, I'd say that it is quite powerful enough to keep out most threats.
Also, Videl and Erasa have gone above and beyond since thanks to the smaller area they now had to monitor, Yajirobe, Gramps and some of the Dragon Warriors have already defeated a little over three dozen of Babidi's agents that were placed in the kingdom.
Unfortunately, we were unable to gain any information from them as they offed themselves the moment they got captured and only shouted one phrase every time they died.
“Death to the Overseer!”
It wasn't hard to figure out who the Overseer is considering Shin was right there and speaking of him, it has been a bit of a hard week.
So far, Bulma couldn't find any sign of how the curse worked as her scans showed that both Shin and Kibito were healthy…for their age, at least.
That was the issue. In the past week alone, Shin had aged about 10years according to Bulma's scans, which meant that he aged by 10 years every week.
Considering that he's been suffering from this for the past five million years, that would mean that he's…fifty million years old right now.
However, since Shin himself said that Supreme Kai have an average lifespan of 75 million years, I have this weird feeling that something is going to happen in the last week to take away the other 25 million years.
“Is this perhaps a bad time, Gohan?”, I blinked at the familiar voice in my head, looking around to make sure non one is nearby before responding.
“Not at all, Mr. Popo. How may I help?”
“Your weapon is finished,” He said, making my eyes widen as I remembered what I asked him to do for me a week ago.
“You mean…it's done?”
“It is, indeed. Are you going to come fetch it?”
“Without a doubt. Should I use Instant Transmission?”
“That would be the best option, yes,” Mr. Popo answered and I grinned as I held two fingers on my forehead, stretching my ki sensing across the planet before locking onto the flare of his ki to the far north.
“Got it. Here I come.”
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The air reeked with sulfur and was overflowing with dark energy as a massive black orb sat on a pedestal of twisted metal and bone, cracks of glowing red light throbbing upon its surface like veins.
Around it, a small figure paced with a frown as he had felt the energy of the being he hated the most appearing on the planet a week ago, Babidi's fingers twitching in anticipation.
“It's weaker. That damned Kai must have finally noticed the spell. Ha! It's of no matter. The spell has already taken root and soon, he will wither like the pathetic simpleton he is! Hihihihihi!”, Babidi cackled, walking back to his throne in front of the orb before looking at his two royal guard.
To Babidi's right was a towering figure with red skin and pointy ears, standing with his arms crossed and his eyes closed in meditation as his demonic energy flared at the same time as the energy of the orb throbbed.
On Babidi's left stood a being of equal size, having some resemblance to the tyrant Frieza and looking more like his father King Cold with his taller form, the organic armor on his head in the shape of a crown while his eyes were a blood red.
However, the one thing both men shared were the large black M crests on their forehead, each under the control of Babidi's magic as the warlock locked his gnarly hands underneath his chin.
“You both felt it too, didn't you? The mortals' fear above when my minions took our first victim. Oh, it was beautiful. Their unease and fear will be what we need for Buu's awakening.”
“How much longer until the energy is sufficient?”, The second asked and Babidi waved his hand dismissively in response.
“Soon, Cooler. Thanks to your planetary cleansings years ago, the ritual site had absorbed just enough ambient chaos to form a tether. The rest will come from Shin's demise.”
“Their King, Son Gohan,” The first figure spoke up, opening his eyes as Babid turned to him with a frown.
“What of him, Dabura?”
“His presence is interfering with our timeline.”
“Indeed, he is. I expected them to be little more than a nuisance to our plans, but it appears that we may have to take them seriously after all. Cooler?”
“Yes, Master,” Cooler spoke and a vile grin spread across Babid's face as he looked at the being.
“Begin Phase Two. It is time to make the world bleed a little more.”
A/N: And the plot thickens as we find out that Shin is on a timer and…Babidi has Cooler?! Holy crap!
Like I said, this is the final war arc so I'm going to pull out all-stops. Also, this is to help me learn how to write a war in case I do one in the other stories in the future.
Next chapter: New Weapon, Old Relic and Attack of the Coolers.
As always, read, enjoy, review and until the next one…
Ba-Bye~!!
