Chickens! Page 39

My Aunt Karen used to blow eggs like this at Easter. Despite growing up in Pittsburgh at peak air pollution, she had better lung capacity than I.

I did that a few times for Easter when I was young, but realized (when I was still young) I could make a mold with silicone caulking and make disposable eggs with paper mâché. After making several messes, and having to put up with the ridicule of my family, I finally got it right and would make dozens of decorated eggs that wouldn't go bad if not found.

It's interesting how it takes a while for the mechanics of egg laying to get worked out for young chickens! I remember little eggs, eggs with double yolks, and on one memorable occasion an extra large egg with a soft shell -- very strange. As a side note, deviled eggs made from double-yolked eggs look really weird.
