Added 2024-10-28 17:26:44 +0000 UTCThe cursive peeps and cheeps are a small tribute to My Little Hen, by Alice and Martin Provensen, my second-favorite book about chickens after Daniel Pinkwater's The Hoboken Chicken Emergency. My Little Hen was originally lettered in ornate script, later replaced with type after someone decided it was too hard for kids to read.
I drew My Little Hen and The Hoboken Chicken Emergency on Robin's bookshelf on the first page. Robin has my childhood copies of both books.

A farm needs chickens, so we bought a few hens. a rooster, and a tray of 36 fertilized eggs with an incubator to keep them warm. In about 20 days, the chicks began to hatch. I and my younger sib watched chick after chick prise their way out of their eggs. It was fascinating and thrilling.
