The mass censorship war on the net is heating up. Unfortunately I had to devote a lot of time this month to submitting legal complaints, sending dozens of emails, rallying my family, calling every cartel member, and doing as much research and info sharing as possible. Since I am actively speaking against them the chance I get crushed and censored is increasing but together we have a good chance of throwing off these artistic shackles!
I have also begun my first stage of my social media promotion but unfortunately it is about this controversy trying to take over society instead of my actual game.
I do think the cartel will lose and artists, authors, game devs, and businesses will get their independence back from Visa and MasterCard. I think we will win because this is significant overreach and essentially everyone hates these guys and the idea they get to control what legal goods you can buy. I’ve had hundreds of arguments about this topic this month and my feeling is that about 80-90% of people are against this once it is explained because it is just completely idiotic on so many levels. After watching so much division the past decade it is actually heart warming to see such complete bipartisan hate for these power tripping corporate overlords.
Now that I have had some time to digest the news, I feel like the Steam submission has now become a Patreon submission. Basically "don't ask; don't tell. We own you." The rules are impossible to follow but people will just submit and hope they slip through the cracks. Then they use the impossible standard as blackmail. In this stage of the censorship wave I might only get deleted with a complaint but its already spreading to different taboo tags.
I think it is ridiculous that essentially all games are forbidden by the new Visa / MasterCard forced Steam TOS and its massive core of subjective and never specified rules. I don't think it's right that all new games on Steam now have to effectively lie during certification and then stay on their knees.
This means the rules will be unevenly and selectively enforced. BUT, in theory, it does also allow me to continue with my launch depending on the build and what I do.
My dev roadmap needs to be updated since the build order is changing. Basically, I intend to continue the project without censorship but the order of the scenes being released will change so that the most controversial content won’t be released until we get more confirmation of what can and can’t be added.
I have a new Transfigure build coming but it needs more time in the oven. I’d expect it in a week or two.
Bonus art for the month is Vtuber Shylily - Womp womp! She's a cute orca-cat. I think that is shadow-banned by the powers at be. If you think she's cute, that's a thought crime. We need to protect games, books, anime, and our waifus - and everything else too. Things are getting pretty crazy. Be vocal but stay safe!
