Transfigure’s Final Form

Hi!

This month has been an adventure but I have good news. I made a bunch of stuff. I wrote a bunch of stuff. I upgraded a bunch of artwork. I am doing my best to absorb the gains from the new AI tools and I am sowing a lot of crops for the next Tango Harvest. I have several new technical improvements working as well to announce including proper functioning wide screen animations. I’ve also explored several new possibilities within my existing tools and fully completed several production pipelines and tested them. I also completed a lot of experiments, and tested a lot of new tech and other tools and combinations of those tools. This has resulted in me picking the game’s final style!

This decision was based on the results from the current batch of tests I am doing. I don’t want to get too technical and in the weeds but essentially the most important thing I am doing now is training AI models on my own 3D artwork. I’ve currently trained five custom AI models on my own data. I’m doing this so that I can bridge some of the bottlenecks and unlock another level of usefulness from these already extremely powerful AI tools that I have set up over the past few months. This has been key to getting everything wide-screen, functioning, high res, with minimal errors etc.

Now that I have more info and I tested multiple pathways through different tool sets, I used the info from the 5 models I trained to update a 6th more refined version. This succeeded and unlocked several of the art styles I was initially prohibited from using because there wasn’t a fully compatible tool-set to produce it all the way. (The test was for YP Taylor.)

So I went back and retried with my previously ranked #1 style that I picked over the past few months and now that it works I think it looks really good! This is a “heavy brush” of a realistic adult cartoon filter. Excitingly too, I can fully use every piece of 3D art I’ve made so far within these trained models as well as use the existing pieces as the basis for the game’s early art. This is also inline with the polling data, is technically feasible, looks good, and so Tango CEO says this is the path forward.

Although it is impossible for me to stop digging at things I am curious about and I will keep tinkering a bit as I go, the R & D stage for Transfigure is now fully complete! The game will have very detailed, hot artwork that does the game’s ambition justice, a massive branching story with ~100 endings, animations, voice acting, custom music, custom sfx, and a host of what I consider basic UI and QoL navigation tools. I am more than satisfied with every element of production and I am rapidly producing a lot of art for the next Transfigure demo and the releases after that. 

As I fully refine the new systems I am making a lot of content so I will post more random art when I can. Some of the themes, characters, content style etc will vary a lot so eventually something of your taste will probably appear. I’ve generated enough decent quality art that I think I will likely post various character or theme gallery collections on patreon. As I accumulate high quality pictures, I will build them into proper galleries. If you have a character theme or request for some bonus art let me know. 

It’s getting late in the month already but I intend to release another build of Transfigure ASAP. Plus there should be another bonus art post within a few days. 

I strongly believe it was the correct choice to wait as long as I have. I hope the new art and the subsequent releases will convince the rest of the skeptics.

I am trying for the end of the month but it might take 1-2 weeks. The biggest time issue is that I am using Google's (free) public research GPU cycles to create some of the AI models I need. Sometimes I can only get 1 per day done. I'm trying to avoid paying for it but I might buy some GPU hours to crunch out the main cast. Making the models takes a decent amount of prep work, and I had to do a bunch of 3D renders to pad out the dataset, but once processed, it is really fast. I will try to sneak in some more at 3 AM over the next week to see how many I can do for free. Transfigure has a big cast so it isn't an instant conversion.
