Hi Tango Friends!
I’ve been rapidly upgrading the existing art while I try to narrow down the final style. I’ve done many thousands of tests and it has essentially already been chosen (more or less). It is an extension of what existed previously but it can be pushed in various directions if there is a major preference.
The existing style is semi realistic 3D renders with varying levels of detail so switching to a more detailed realism focused style makes the most sense in my mind. I thought it would be easier to populate a list here for us to compare and vote on but what ended up happening the past few days is there are a few expected and unexpected bottlenecks. There are cross compatibility issues so some of my favorite AI models don’t work with the best tools I need for Transfigure. That’s not a huge deal because there are so many alternatives to choose from but it narrows the list down significantly so that it is less of a complicated decision. A style is sort of naturally emerging and I like it.
It’s more about which direction I push the renders and the percentage I blend. For example I could have a total anime image or just a little dash. I am liking this “semi realistic 3D render with a bit of an adult cartoon vibe” overlay and I’ve basically figured out how to match it to the existing assets and keep it consistent going forward.
I have included some examples of YP Taylor with the overlay plus some animation magic. It is kind of freaky actually because she now looks almost exactly like what I had in my mind. I’m more than happy with this style! The old renders look drab. I love the way colors around her pop. Her blonde hair is actually blonde! She’s cute and she practically glows! She broke my Amugi tester!
Something in this ballpark will be the game’s final appearance. Several other examples were included in the previous post. It’s going to be a 3d+ adventure.
I think the new overlay plus the animations I can do now elevate the 3D renders to a higher quality level and create a more unique and stylized look. I am very happy to have gone from essentially shit tier animations to ones that look as good as exist in this post in such a short amount of time. I think the new ones look really good but maybe I am high on my own supply so be sure to let me know if you disagree.
This twilight period and especially the past month and a half has probably been the hardest I’ve worked on Tango since the very first release all those eons ago. I think all this work will pay off massively for everyone going forward.
I am finally happy with all aspects of production and the quality levels throughout are now acceptable and good enough or better to properly please my audience going forward. I’m pretty confident the game will eventually be good and that the visuals will match the stories I have coming.
For the demo I don’t like releasing an old (and potentially bugged) build that already looks outdated compared to the new one. It is essentially obsolete but it should have been out a long time ago so it is at the bottom of this post. It will serve as a comparative base for what comes next. The new build looks much more consistent and unified with what I feel are substantially improved graphics. I will post a poll soon and then a fresh release should be out within a week or so. Then we are going into the next stage, reimagining classic scenes, to shocking conclusions for dozens of stories, to new, never before seen chapters with more saucy tales than you can shake a stick at!
Due to the significant upgrades this month a lot more ambition is back on the table. I already have quite a number of stories that fit nowhere and were intended to become 3D comics but now they are going to be made with varying styles of alternative art. Every month going forward should be one build of Transfigure and another bonus “thing” whether it’s a comic, an html touch up, or something else I am cooking up. Due to how good the AI “real” Taylor pics look it is quite likely the html game is going to get a coat of fresh paint.
Once the new art build has been released I will decide if we are ready for early access. Most of the graphical flaws will be fixed in the next one. The patch notes for this one are long and the game has improved a lot but the two most important aspects, graphics and story, will be an ongoing process to bring to life.
