Time for an overdue update!
Progress has been fairly rapid although I still feel perpetually behind. I broke and fixed the 3D game several times which was a bit stressful but it worked out for the best. I also added a large amount of the html game’s written content to the Ren’Py engine. I want the demo to launch with nearly all of the UI features in the final game so I tried my best to get all of those features in this build. Since I taught myself how to do a lot of the coding with help from online sources, sometimes it can be hard to estimate how long it will take to add or fix something.
I have made several new character models to flesh out Transfigure’s massive cast. These include ZMP, numerous background characters, Sandra, and a handful of others such as Mitch’s crew. I shot a bunch of Julie CG and her hair style had some issues that I disliked so I swapped it to a different one. I also messed around with a few details that were bothering me like giving YP Taylor blonde eyelashes when appropriate.
I also had a few issues with one of the sites I was buying music licenses from. One of the main composers I picked no longer sells the licenses so this may change a few of the themes going forward.
I’ve tested a number of new character voices. Some fit quite well. Others I am leaving blank while searching for more appropriate choices.
As I added more story content to the game I’ve made lists of missing graphics or assets I still need. I’ve gathered almost everything I need over the last year and a half or so.
The major delay lately has been adding the final UI tracking feature I want. Despite investing quite a bit of time and trying many different methods, I have not been able to get it working. For now I am abandoning it since it isn’t critical.
Upon replaying from the start, I decided to reshoot several of the early graphics and more appropriately mix presentation styles to be consistent. To do this without completely redoing a lot of content, I’ve added a blur effect to some of the backgrounds. The idea is to make it so that I have the freedom to use both the sprite on background style and full renders without there being a jarring difference between the two styles.
At the moment I think the demo is pretty decent but there are always things I could improve or polish up. The newer art looks better in general than the older art so I don’t like that the first part people see is the ugliest so I think I’m going to do one more round of polish for April including adding more music and sound effects as well as updating some of the early game graphics and backgrounds.
Thank you for your patience! Please let me know if you have any constructive feedback.
Transfigure 3D Demo 0.0.1H
-expanded the save slot system from 6 saves per screen to 12 (note previous saves will still work but their thumbnails will need to be resaved to make the screen display properly).
-added a voice replay button on the main ui
-approximately ¼ to ⅓ of the base html game has been edited and added to the script. This content is missing CG and is currently gated but will be the foundation for the post-demo game.
-added a test volume slider for Taylor and partially implemented a sound control system internally. (I’m going to make a separate page for the expanded control panel)
-added missing CG for Mitch’s dead drop
-added graphics and voice for Julie’s intro
-added minor character Lacey and graphics on the KIA end.
-fixed the new gallery system to properly display previously viewed animations {WIP)
-changed the Tango Fiction intro line
-reshot several early graphics
-added colors for different speaking characters
