Happy holidays from Tango Fiction!
First of all let me apologize for being quiet lately. I’ve just been crunching the to do list down and trying to keep myself from getting burned out by switching up tasks as often as possible. I felt bad I didn’t finish .61 yet so I started working on more content and now it’s the end of the month again and everything is still spaghetti.
In terms of story, Transfigure is almost finished. It just requires a lot of my least my favorite task, editing and filling in transition scenes and loose ends. Now that the VN is looking more presentable, I will dedicate a lot more hours to writing in the new year so that the game can be completed as quickly as possible.
As for what’s under the tree this year… we have some cute Christmas pictures!
I was also able to test a new graphical tool that I think will be really handy in the future.
Transfigure 3D also has a pretty spiffy update with some features that took a lot of troubleshooting and some R/D.
I strongly disliked the previous gallery where you would see each individual image, click, find the return button, find the image, click, look, find the return button etc, so I rebuilt the gallery code from the ground up to make it function more like a proper Japanese style VN gallery. I like the new system a lot better. The only thing I couldn’t figure out was how to get the animations to unlock correctly.
With the new gallery functioning mostly as intended, the demo now has all the basic features of what I consider to be a proper visual novel (multi branching story, ending tracker, scene tracker, CG gallery, ui controls etc). They could all be refined a bit but I’m happy with a lot of it. It’s hard enough to write a good story, let alone a multi branching one and then create art for it so I see why so many western VNs are skimpy in this area.
I have a few things left on the feature wish list, three of which I think are feasible to add:
A repeat voice line button.
Individual voice controls for specific characters.
Occasional animated art.
I’ve tested out a lot of different code but I haven’t been able to get these features working properly. The gallery was the most important so now I can go down the priority list.
The last thing I’ve wanted for a while is a basic combat system but I’ve deemed it as non-essential for this project given the complexities involved in making it a worthwhile addition.
Going forward I am going to do at least one more release of polish. I want more music, sfx, and more graphics where appropriate. Then I will let patrons vote and see if there are any obvious areas I can improve on before a public release. Once I release the demo publicly it should kick off a cascade of more frequent updates.
Transfigure 3D Demo 0.0.1G ~ 30 graphics
-fixed the bugged ending tracker to go beyond 3 pages so you can correctly track all existing and future endings.
-added a new style of image gallery, rebuilt from the ground up with all the primary images enabled if you’ve unlocked them. (It has a cover image and a quick click through effect) note: I left the old gallery up for comparison purposes.
-fixed some bugs on the lead up to ends 76 and 77 (I’m still missing a character graphic for Lacey)
-added many missing placeholder CGs such as Taylor doing research, going to the washroom etc
-added more CG leading up to the yellow potion transformation, the basement lab etc
-added more CG during Taylor’s hospital breakdown route, replacing the old sprite on background style in that area
-remastered and cleaned up several voice lines.
-added voice overs to the calm hospital section, including minor unvoiced characters (such as the misc doctor and Bernard the lawyer).
-added a Tango Fiction intro screen. (Tango is wearing a hat)
-added a Patreon link to the main menu
Known issues: the new gallery does not correctly unlock movies or animations from Mitch’s section
