Tango Fiction and Transfigure Status Report

It’s time for an overdue status post! So what have I been up to lately?

Well I have edited around 300 images for the project as well as downloading, sorting, and labeling a lot of new media that is needed to fill in a bunch of the remaining story areas. As usual I tried to keep the selection tasteful and have enough choices that I am able to adapt it to the stories or fit it in so that they match as seamlessly as possible.

I did a rough inventory of what I had media wise relative to my notes and plans for the future so this led to a quest to download more items to fill in the blanks. It turned out pretty well. I feel like I now have the vast majority of the media needed to finish the game so I will now direct those hours into more writing. I also have a bunch of extra images that will get put into the earlier portions of the story that have less media per passage on average. Those additions will occur gradually.

Other than that, I began a process to gather and list all of the game’s dead ends. I have recently outlined and written about an update’s worth of content in the spy area. This also means that I wrote around ten new endings and the bases for dozens of scenes. Most of this content was focused around the Korean storyline (BJ Cho) and Natalie Prynn. It was slightly more complicated than what I had in my mind/ notes because there are so many variations and because each story area is a unique stand alone mystery story, with its own characters, and unique background information revelations.  I wanted to have a lot of variety, plus a way to succeed and a few ways to fail or trigger different scenes. Then there is also the variation regarding the chips and whether a player decides to get a modchip or not. The language barrier that exists in the unchipped Korean variation for example makes Taylor’s mission much more difficult even though it may have less long term consequences. I am really excited to fill in some of these areas because it contains a lot of situations that are under explored in adult games and fiction in general.

The backstory of what is happening in the Transfigure universe is something I have left largely in the dark with some hints and endings here and there. Depending on how close you’ve read when playing, you may be in for some major surprises and hopefully a few good laughs.

I always hesitate to mention “secret stuff” because it is hard to say when or if it will ever come out. That said, I did have some ideas and setups that I didn’t really fit in Transfigure so they got put into other projects. I have worked a bit on the concept project, “totem”, which is one of the top contenders for Tango Fiction’s next game. When the time comes  and Transfigure is complete, I will make some fairly detailed pitches or demos and then everyone can vote on what they prefer. That’s a long way in the future because Transfigure needs to get finished first but these little background projects are growing word by word.

I’ve also put a few hours into each of the lagging poll winners for topics like Drew, Sam, Two friends, etc so there is a lot of content that should trickle out in the near future and hopefully wake Tango Fiction up from its recent torpor. Spring is here and there are pretty flowers everywhere!!

Other than that, things are going pretty well for me. I am super busy but I put about double the regular hours in during May and I’m trying to structure the future so that I can have more days per month set aside for working on Tango Fiction and other fun projects. This post is ridiculously late because I haven’t had great internet access lately and that has majorly thrown a wrench into everything since I do all my writing on Google Docs.
