Transfigure .99A (Halloween Special) + 1000 TFGS Likes

Let’s start with some good news. I finally achieved one of my longstanding goals: 1000 likes on TFGS!! (that’s the transformation game site for anyone wondering). Woo! To do that in two and a half years puts the game in rare company.

This was definitely one of the harder to finish updates. Sorry this one took so long (I probably could have released weeks ago, if not earlier) but I felt the writing was a bit bland. The extra time allowed me to add some more humor to the story and make it read smoother. I kept adding things that would slow me down from finishing the content at the end of the sequence. I also added an actual sex scene because it seemed a bit light on certain elements. Director Rin (and everyone else) has been as patient as saints so I am glad to at least get a big part of the content I have been working on out for everyone to read.

Although I have been quiet, I managed to work on the game nearly every day this month since I have been back. I doubt I will do 3 releases as I earlier intended but I am still trying to do about three releases worth of content here in the short term (about 30k words) in the same general time frame, plus or minus a week or so.

Like last update this cosplay route is one of those “somewhat atypical” routes that may not appeal to all tastes but I think it adds some more good variety into the Transfigure catalogue. Plus some familiar characters may make a cameo and reveal more about their back stories!

For those wondering why some of the updates lately seem a bit slow I think it might be helpful to realize I consistently put about about the same number of hours every month into the project. I have even reduced my community management hours and put them into writing the past few months. I think I work hard on this project and have produced at a high level for years. Sometimes this leads to finishing batches of content in development, sometimes not. I have always had a large bank of stuff I wrote previously to draw upon. This probably made it appear that I can write faster than I really do. I try to produce at least 10k finished words with media a month but I want to abide by the fan feedback I used to determine that people don’t want that content trickled in; they want it in two or three meaty story additions per update.

I also have what I consider to be high standards (especially for this adult gaming / interactive fiction segment). I try not to be a perfectionist because that mentality never ends, but I want the stories to pass a certain readability and erotic / humor threshold. Sometimes, like this current update, I write stuff, I add it, it looks good and seems like it’s essentially done. But once I do the final assembly and I go to play test, it may read flat. I can’t have that. Transfigure is essentially a digital novel, so if it doesn’t read well that’s a big problem. I want it to be high quality so that when I do a likely restyled version with extra graphics it will look as good as it reads. So I usually use the internal metric that if a story segment can’t hold my interest as the writer, it won’t hold yours as the reader. So this update took a few more passes than is typical.

So I added way more lines and cut some redundant ones. I kept editing and letting things gel until it passes muster. I can say with certainty it is way better now than it was a couple weeks ago. It took about twenty or thirty hours extra to finish this beyond what I thought it would take. I don’t feel like I have full control over that. It’s done when it’s done.

Sometimes I feel like I can’t update you all because I don’t know the answers myself. I then delay posting until I have something to post. Sometimes I feel like I am on the verge of an update and it just goes on and on and I think, “Why post now about a delay, when I can just keep working and post the update ASAP! I am only a couple hours out!” Then days of pecking go by and I’m like “fuck.”

Writing is like painting - it is done when the picture looks good and is complete. No one enjoys a sketch as much as a complete drawing.
