Latest Transfigure Update

Hey everyone!  New Transfigure version is out.  I apologize this update took way longer than I thought it would.  Sometimes it seems like I can bang out 10k words really quickly, other times it seems like a bit of a struggle.  This week I blew my mind repeatedly by being like, “I am done!” then checking the word count and noticing it barely budged, lol.  I hated “padding” for word count in school so I won’t do that here, even if it takes way longer.

I think the next update I am going to track approximately how long it takes me to write and edit 10k words  - I would estimate it is about 1 full time work week, 25-40 hours, depending on how many rereads it takes before it feels “right.”

Ideally I want to put about 50-100 hours a month into this and finish it up in about a year’s time but that pushes me into an awkward position. It isn’t mainly about money, but I have already sunk a huge amount of time into this project and I can’t live off $1.50/ hour especially considering how much money I have lost in the past six months.  So, to keep things fair for both the patrons and myself, I think I will divide out the patreon payout into something below minimum wage and then guarantee those hours per month.  That way I think it is less stressful and I don’t have to work for pennies to expand the base unless I have the desire to.  I realize I am still new to all this so I am more than willing to do unpaid or low paid work to help get established in the early days...just not in infinite quantity.  I do want to update quickly and share the best parts of Transfigure - because that will increase the number of subscribers and the amount of feedback and hours I can ultimately devote to the project - and hopefully please most of the fans in the process.  

I had a suggestion to restructure my patreon to make it more like the most commercially successful pages but I have decided I really don’t want to do that.  Milking people into a $5 minimum tier for early access just seems… mean and potentially a huge ripoff, depending on your mindset.  You get to determine what I am worth - and to be honest I think a $1/month erotic subscription is completely fair and that $5/ month for many patreon projects is often a borderline scam.  I think the internet is a really generous place but there is also a lot of competition so people want good value and to live within their means.  That is fine.  I will try and give you all the best value I can!

This month I also spent ~10 hours reading, watching, and practicing tutorials on how to code basic variables - something I have wanted to do for months.  It might take a while to add a bunch of the planned features into the game but I now have at least a vague idea of how to implement some wishlist features.  Romantic (and many other) stats will be tracked and previous “cosmetic” decisions will influence later dialogues so that a player decisions will have more impact.  There will also be an updating character appearance/dress screen and photo.  I also have a quick jump / scene menu planned to make replayability faster.  I really feel this basic level of coding will be very important because it will definitely make this into a more “game” like experience.  It also makes a few of the loose ends a lot easier to tie because I can use variable checks to display appropriate story info, even on the routes that combine from several different areas.  Another cool thing is I can now make even more extra customized endings and flavor text.  (ie say Taylor reaches the end of one of the discovery routes but never learns of his transformative abilities - his methods of escape /endings will be very different.)  I can also do more cosmetic scenes and will be able to influence Taylor’s dress up choices during the shopping trip with Julie and carry on the choices for more immersion and player choice.

As for the update itself this one is a bit weird.  I seriously considered cutting the entire protest route but I have decided to keep it even if it “offends” some people because I think it is kind of funny and something I personally experienced many times.  Besides, if anything, Transfigure needs ANOTHER conspiracy, right? :D

P.S. // Bonus question: How do you get sounds on the videos?

Answer: Many of the videos do in fact have sound but are muted by default to prevent immersion breaking.  I think probably ~70% do in fact have sound. To enable sound on Firefox right click on the video and hit unmute.  On Chrome you right click, go to show controls.  Then muted speaker button on the new panel.  If a video doesn’t have sound I think the options are greyed out.
