56:00 You know how when you pause live TV and the people on the screen usually look comical, mid word, mouths open, eyes squinted, etc. Not Taylor looking portrait posed and beautiful at the moment you paused. Tay voodoo strikes again.

Tara Ludwig

🤣👍

Jade

I w always taken the “GOOD!” As her response to the idea that yes, we are out of the woods for “now,” until the NEXT thing happens- and it will- which is what her anxiety is in this song.

Jade

I have a theory that Karma: The Lost Album was going to be a rock album.

Brittany DeLara

she actually doesn't say cuz in the recording of HYGTG, but it's funny cuz she did that again at Sydney night 1 and it's like she was saying it to Travis since he was there that night!

Katie LaFave

Tuned, not timed.

Jade

The guitar change not only gives different sounds for each one but they’re timed perfectly to each song she is performing.

Jade

I have never wanted a performance set made into a live album more than this one. Her version of “Out of the Woods” here is, imo, the best one ❤️

Jade

We’re good for a second but has to keep asking

Can

I second this! I would love to see their reaction to this!! His interpretation is a very cool interpretation and I actually really love the sound and vibes.

Vanessa C

I've always taken the "good" to mean that she asked the question and was told "yes, we're in the clear," even though WE know that's not true, it could be what he was telling her at the time.

Madison Sturdevant

A lot of people have already mentioned their thoughts as to why Taylor shouts “good” and I think they’re all valid. But Miss Emily, how dare you say that Taylor just threw in a random word with no meaning. She doesn’t do anything without intent. She knew what she was doing. Come on! 😆

Emzies

Regarding Nathan Chapman and the re-records…. He might still be a producer for Big Machine. Maybe?

Emzies

I always heard the the “Good” and coming after an inferred nod from who she’s asking the question…so Her, “Are we in the clear yet?” He nods. She says, “Good.” Or even like a sarcastic response when someone doesn’t answer your question. You ask. *crickets* so your like…”good” Oohhh which would match the silence in ITOV!!!! Does this make sense? Lol

Bethanie Harris

We see the germlin voice between Jack and Taylor in the video of 'The Making Of Call It What You Want' as well

Tal

I always imagined that the "good" in OOTW comes after many hours, and maybe days or even weeks, of worrying about the relationship. She finds herself constantly thinking, ruminating, "Are we out of the woods? Are we? Are we in the clear yet?", and then, finally, exhausted and sick of thinking about it, she thinks to herself, "Yes, we're fine. We are still together. All I'm doing is worrying, but nothing bad has actually happened. Everything is good." And then, one final, decisive "GOOD." And that's where the "good" comes from. That's what I've always thought.

Jeannie

i think it was rumored that she also did ayhtdws during these performances but it was never released

Aubrey McMichael

Idk if someone commented this already but in the How you get the girl performance is that not the black guitar she posed with for her Time's POTY Award!!!!!!

Lauren R

seeing taylor making blank space with her red era hair is a mind fuck

Aubrey McMichael

i’ve seen something about nathan chapman possibly still being tied to Big Machine and that could be why Taylor doesn’t work with him any more

Aubrey McMichael

but it could just be a random adlib she decided on 😭 who knows

finley

for me the “good” in ootw chorus isnt saying its good or the situation is fine, its more a response to the question, maybe even a snappy one. “are we in the clear yet?” “good!” it always felt to me more like when youre in an argument with someone and you say something and they respond to something youve said and you go “OKAY! GOOD! THATS GREAT!” but its sarcastic and youre still annoyed at them. it feels like the whole chorus shes trying to ask him about their relationship and maybe he isnt giving anything back and just brushes it off with a “yeah. we’re all good.” and she is just like “good!” even though she is still wondering.

finley

Nobody commenting on the fact, that she’s mentioning a spy movie? 😂😂 #ellyconway 🤡🤡

MsWaldo2009

Okay, but why did my eyes water during the bridge of this version of Out Of The Woods ?! SUPERIOR, OFFENSIVE, ICONIC 😭😭

Daisy Ramirez

These people in the audience must be industry people cause the way she's talking about the specifics of microphones and all the technical stuff. (Edit: Ahhh yes they are all producers & technical types. Makes sense).

Joe Weaver

So funny what you said about the guys in the audience cause I was thinking the same thing. But then I thought, "hmm...nobody would think I'm a knowledgeable Swiftie from looking at me so let's give them a break."

Joe Weaver

I think the “good” is sarcastic… like clearly we’re not, but you keep saying we are so, “good” this is fine I’m totally fine (when I’m definitely not)

Maggie Tindall

OOTW Piano Version is so so necessary.

Cara M

Watching this the day my 1989 cardigan arrived 🥰

Rose Ellen

Noooo “good” is important. She’s reassuring herself. Like are we in the clear yet? The response is yes and she’s all okay, good. She doesn’t believe it though

Cara M

I think the “good” in ootw is like one of the classic loops (on and offs) of 1989. Like the whole song she’s literally like I’m anxious, are we good now? And at the end of her rambling it’s just like good! Like the answer is yes she’s out of the woods (even though of course she isn’t) the good=her delulu

Allie Ladner

I agree with this! It's like when you're arguing with someone and you yell 'Good!' or 'Fine!' as a response, even when it's not good or fine!

Rose Ellen

hey, Ik this unrelated but I think you guys should react to Aurora. she recently put out a new song and some of her lyrics are really good to fathom, and she has a beautiful voice

Daniel

I wonder if taylor rewatched parts of this interview when rerecording 1989 since she talked specifically about how they produced certain songs...

Juliana Martinez

For the ootw song in the memo i'm pretty sure she says "are we in the clear, are we in the good?" that's where the "GOOD" comes from hahaha

sharon teles

You know one thing that's so impressive about Taylor is you can really appreciate that she's someone who has the ability when she has expertise in an area to also be able to communicate about her skills in ways that are targeted to her audience. She'll be able to get into the details in talks like this (or some of her film festival type interviews) and she can also talk about the same topics to general audiences and still capture the same passion without losing the audience by being bogged down by detail.

River

I always love this rendition of OOTW, was in my learning how to play a piano era and really was trying hard to play it like her 🥲

Thesar Zuhri

im ofc a huge swiftie but im also so huge metal music fan so when Taylor pulls out her electric guitar it hits THE perfect spot for me!!

JeffreyC

I study sound studies and god the lecture one of my profs could give you about random little sounds hahahah

Nin

did you hear that "sea sides" in the original blank space lyrics

Nin

the intro of this video is so comedic to me like the first few seconds alone

Nin

Or maybe it’s not a snarky way of saying good at all. At the end of the video she is indeed OOTW

Kimberly

She says good in OOTW because she’s asking a question “Are we in the clear yet?” In my mind the person she asked answers “Yes” and her response is “Good!” but in a bit of a snarky way. Because maybe she knows they’re actually not in the clear yet and he’s just saying yes

Kimberly

Ok but in the gibberish version of the blank space memo she said "seasides" and now the entire 1989 TV is seaside themed ☠️⚰️

Cristina

The September cover is so good and no one talks about it! I would love if she did another Spotify session!!!!

Takara

I was crying at the discussion of Gremlin voice and “Good” for OOTW chorus 🤣🤣 you two are so silly fun thank you for the laughs

Takara

My favorite thing about this performance is that the electric guitar part in the bridge of wildest dreams sounds sooooo reminiscent of Eyes On Fire from the twilight soundtrack and that is my ultimate multiverse situation

Miranda Turbett

This Out of the Woods piano version was literally a spiritual experience.

Cher

Just had to comment again to say I am OBSESSED with Imogen using BOOM WHACKERS on Clean. Stop I love those so much they were my favorite thing in music class growing up.

Hannah Stiff

I found this article about why Nathan Chapman didn’t participate in the re-recordings. In short, it is likely because he still has a business relationship with Big Machine… which means it would be a conflict of interest for him to do the re-recordings. https://www.bustle.com/entertainment/taylor-swift-nathan-chapman-not-credited-red-taylors-version

Cher

i just love u chickens so much! loving the first official vid of the year 🩵

ciara 🍒

omg u guys HAVEE to react to “the rise and fall of a midwest princess” by chappel roan!!! shes one of olivia rodrigos openers and shes SO GOOD. sounds i have never heard before the most offensive melodies evere

lily g

My favorite example of songwriters having an offensive melody before the lyrics is Paul McCartney when he started writing Yesterday. He just thought of the melody for the "yesterday, all my troubles seemed so far away" part and filled it with jibberish starting with "scrambled eggs....." :)

Meghan Carty

I think it's as simple as Paris being nicknamed the City of Love <3

Meghan Carty

I always took the “good” as her trying to reassure herself after the person answers that they ARE out of the woods/in the clear, even if they really are not. Since OOTW comes early in the album, I still see it as in their on again off again phase and trying to delulu herself into thinking they actually could make it out. However, after watching the music video I was thinking the final “good” was an indication that SHE finally made it out of the woods/is in the clear, even if they both never made it out together.

Ava Jeffs

“This song does not sound like it should be from this earth” is me with every song LMAO I LOVE IT

Ava Jeffs

I think the good in OOTW is like "are we in the clear yet?" then someone else says "yes" (that we dont hear) and she responds with "good"

Kate Aschoff

Girls you want to hear a male cover of Wildest Dreams!!?? Listen to Ryan Adams full 1989 cover!!!!!!!!

Jessie

'DRESS' ON PIANO I WOULD DIE!!!!!

Jessie

BONNYYYYYY where is your shirt from?

Anna

Love this! I randomly had a video thought today and thought I'd share it with you. It might be fun for the two of you to talk us through your stand-out moments from the 1989 re-recorded songs. I was listening to the last "WE RUN" in I Know Places today, which is the best thing I've ever heard. . . And I know you girls are experts on picking up on the small differences/enhancements in the re-records. Might be fun to hear some of your favorites? Or maybe it's something you could do for each of the re-records once they're all out in the world?

Laura R

This is sooooooo good. THANK YOU FOR THIS SUPERIOR FATHOMING.

Laura R

Also I just had an physical and emotional reaction to the mention of getaway car TV like don’t say this if you want me to survive 🫨 the thought of Rep TV existing makes me ill, emotional and beyond happy all at once

alex

I just now realized that the old covers of her albums do not feel right for me anymore. And that’s quiet insane, given the long time I’ve had grown attached to them.. like don’t get me wrong, they still stand for the feeling and the experience I had when I first listened to them, but still there has been a shift in how I feel when I see them. Has anyone felt the same?

alex

I've seen Imogen in concert and can absolutely confirm that almost all of the "effects" you think you hear on her voice is just her being an actual genius. She's simply phenomenal.

Brittany Diamond

I just want to say to Emily, you’re hair is so cute and reminds me of Princess Diana 👸🏼 love it ❤️

Erin Wyckoff

Me today realising I have NEVER heard this version of OOTW or HYGTG before.🤯

HollieJolly

Your discussion of the word “GOOD” made me think of the song For Good from Wicked where they play on whether saying something is “for good” means for the better or if it just means permanent. People who write music are so big brain. If Taylor ever pulls a Sara Bareilles and writes a musical I just know it will be insane.

Hannah Stiff

Going back to the 1989 city or beach conversation - it’s interesting that part of her gibberish lyrics for Blank Space was “seaside”!

Cornelia Kucani

The “Good” in In the clear yet GOOD!” I’ve always taken as her being like “phew yeah we are in the clear” but only for a millisecond! it then it’s back to feeling in the woods again by the verse and questioning again in the chorus … reflecting the constant up and down. Always feeling like it’s on a knife edge with tiny snippets of hope that’s it’s gonna be ok…

Donna

Absolutely love this

Meg A.

Fun fact: my sound design professor in college/ now my coworker used to live in Nashville and was good friends with Nathan Chapman! They were both younger and kinda hustling in the music and producing scene. A few years later he moved away to where I live now and was watching the Grammys with his wife only to hear Nathan’s name bc of Fearless! They aren’t in touch really these days but I still think that story is crazy!

Hannah Stiff

Emily in one video : "I am the reincarnation of Jack Antonoff". Also Emily : "I don't pay attention to sounds and could never do what Jack does". 😂 Just thought that was a funny little moment

Laurie Letendre

Thank you so much for doing this reaction! :) I love watching her uncover all these insights but it also makes me sad in the way that this was probably done to help her bid for the AOTY Grammy for 1989 which means most of the audience are music industry people/journalists. Which also means that the majority of this room is white and male - makes me sad to see that this was what the industry was like (and in many ways continues to be). That Taylor almost has to perform for them, telling them all this technical info about the software, justify her choices etc, trying so hard to make them laugh and keep them entertained ('you'll find me on my tallest tiptoes...'). I don't know, I feel like in some ways we have come a long way since then - we're not seeing Olivia Rodrigo or Dua Lipa have to pander to the 'men in suits' so much, probably thanks to streaming taking over and taking the power... Anyways, food for thought considering where Taylor is today

Esther Newman

omg one of my favourite taylor sit downs of ALL TIME!!!!!

elizabethjulia

the people in the audience are grammy voters! whether or not they are worthy ... i'd say they are considering how the grammys ended up for 1989!

gracie

I want to echo other people saying the “Good” is an answer to the question but ALSO I feel like the fact that it’s screamed really shows her desperation—like “Are we out of the woods?” “Yeah? Really? Finally?GOOD🙌🏽😮‍💨”

Sabina Vitola

These live versions are SO SUPERIOR As much as I love our collective experience of being swifties, there’s just something about this performance (not hearing fans sing screaming too) that is so pure? Blank Space does something to me here

Meg A.

This video is rude, illegal AND offensive! I thoroughly enjoyed this trip back to 1989 era. I’ve always been impressed by Taylor’s ability to stand alone on a stage with only one instrument and just wow a crowd. She obviously puts thought into how she wants to change the arrangement for each performance. The changing guitars for each song plays into that, the tuning may be different or she wants a different sound for the next song. Thank you for doing this and I definitely would love a video on her VMA history! Thank you for mentioning the golden globes monologue as well. I’m friends with a singer named Barbara Payton (I know her from her time being on the Bob Seger tours) that is not a Swifty, but she posted on fb a couple days ago the following: “loved this moment at the golden globes and though I’m not a person that listens to her music (yet) I admire this young woman on so many levels” -reposted photo of Taylor sipping her wine. Captioned with: Ladies, the days of laughing and smiling to make weak men feel comfortable disrespecting us are over. Women are done with everyone’s bull shit and I’m so here for it. littlemissmarxist 😎 Sorry this is so long.

Tess7

That's how I hear it too. But it's a bit of a sassy "good" in my ears. Kind of if she was to answer a question "are you ok?" with "fine!"

Laila Duffy

AHH loved this🫶

Brianna Suarez

This live performance is one of my favorites.

Jules

I went to an Imogen Heap concert many years ago (early 2000s, I'm an elder Swiftie). Anyway, it was one of the most amazing shows ever. She did all the layering in of sounds & vocals live. It was incredible! If I ever have the chance to see her again, I absolutely would. Clean has been my #1 on 1989 since Day 1!

Rachel

The OOTW GOOD! to me indicated she was at an elevated (anxious) mental state and was too afraid to wait for the answer of whether or not they are out of the woods yet because she already knew the end was coming.

T

This has always been on my mind as well. The 1989 voice and watching you guys talk about it made me realize why this is. This was her first “Pop” album so she couldn’t come in with her country voice from her past albums. The best way to describe it to almost like she was acting in a movie where she had the pop star role. Over-pronounced her words and made them sound more “pop” style. It was her most “over-produced” era where she wanted that perfect image perfect friends perfect voice. That’s why I think people thought she was fake. Anyways, I believe her real “pop” voice is the one on Midnights. It sounds effortless and so good.

VP23

I think the way it goes is… “Are we out of the woods yet?” ** yes we are ** “Good.”

Meg A.

over the past 4 years I feel like Emilys true Stan album is red. ahahaha. she/you always are so excited when there's a red secret song, in the ranking videos of last track and first it's red... there've been lots of other times too, but idk it's just something I've thought about for some time - when watching your videos. Emily is such a Red stan, you can't fight it hun <33 ahahahah.

sofie sandrini

Written to track, yes. but then they went back to finish it once she had the lyrics. That is, anytime a song is written to track, the music is first, then the lyrics, but then there is more work to do on production and edits and things like that, and both the music and lyrics can change in that process.

MarkH

Thanks guys. This was so wonderful to watch with you. I'm glad we are back to Taylor Swift. Emily I love your bright shiny blonde hair. I think you're gorgeous. It's good to be back with you vuys watching videos. I've missed you both. Love you guys.

Dswiftie

This was a lot of fun! It is a lot for a woman to be invited into the Producers and Engineers wing, even today; the field is very male-dominated (as you can see in the audience) It is a recognition of Taylor not as a performer, but as someone who creates sounds. They could have thought that all those sounds came from Max or Jack or Nathan, but they recognized Taylor's role in the production, and quite early on too. To this day, women have struggled with getting recognition for production--Lorde, for example. That's one of the reasons it is so good to see Jack always mentioning Laura Sisk.

MarkH

I think the 'Good' is her answering her own question and trying to convince herself that they are out of the woods and that things are more calm and steady.

Cecilia Sparke

I'm sure other people said this, but to me, "Good!" in Out Of The Woods is a response; the guy nods or something to indicate they are in the clear (they are not--but they might think they are) and she replies "Good!".

MarkH

Please do a video on the history of Taylor at the VMAs!! That grammy history video was my favorite ya'll have ever done!! PLEASE!💜🙏

Angie Armatis

I haaad to Google 😄 and this is what reddit is telling me: Nathan Chapman is part of Big Machine, that's why he couldn't come back for the rerecordings. But it seems like he's still on good terms with Taylor, he has defended her on Twitter when people say she doesn't write her own songs.

Vera

i have to know if you do your nails, yourself and if so, where is you gellak from? <3

sofie sandrini

Give me [another] self-written album including electric guitar produced by Jack, Aaron, and Imogen. I’d die. I would not survive.

Megan

I’d love to see a video comparing the stolen and Taylor’s versions of 1989 now that we’ve had them for a while :) have your opinions changed?

Emelie

I would love to see your reaction to Ryan Adams’ cover album of 1989! I think it’s such an unique project and it’s so interesting to see how his interpretation changes the meaning and the vibe of the songs. I remember this was also acknowledged by Taylor in a video of them discussing his take on it. Fun fact, Ryan’s version of 1989 was actually my gateway into Taylor — back when I thought that pop music was deeply “uncool” to listen to :)

Alexa

Would love an Era Tour film watch thru!

Courtney Graham

I'm a little embarrassed to admit it, but I have gone down the Argylle/Taylor Swift rabbit hole a couple of times and listening to Taylor saying that she wanted "I Know Places" to sound more like a spy movie made me chuckle just a bit.

Scott Cleverly

I think the “good” at the end of the OOTW chorus is like her responding to the question “Are we out of the woods yet?” As if she were asking herself, or possibly her partner, Have we made it through the bad stuff? And the partner is trying to give her reassurance, or perhaps she herself is manufacturing the reassurance. Like the answer that is not in the lyrics is “Yeah sure, you’re probably in the clear” and her lyrical response is “oh, good”. When you compare the literal words that seemingly reflect positivity about the relationship getting to a good place against the feelings that we know the song is actual reflecting (anxiety, indecision, uncertainty), the “good” takes on this tone of sadness and almost doom for how things will really go down in the end. It’s really quite a lot to unpack. I will fight anyone who says this song is not good because the lyrics are repetitive and simplistic. OOTW is one of the best songs she’s ever written; I don’t know what you want me to say! 😜

Kayla Knutson

I'm so sorry, she was afraid of horns before 1989 came out?! But when she went back to Red we got a superior horn at the end of all too well 10 somewhere around the soldier returning half her weight lyric and also forever winter is driven by a horn. Queen, redoing her old songs, fearless.👸

T

No feeding after midnight either hahaha

LanaJulie33

Random thought that popped into my head when you guys were talking about ME!. Is there a French connection between ME! and Paris? Why did she start this video as if they lived in an apartment in Paris? I don't mean in an Easter egg kind of way I mean in an emotional way. She also did that concert in Paris during Lover. Maybe I'm just slow but I never really drew the direct connection before.

Clash Fan

Or maybe the light killed the bad ones. I don't remember!

Joe Weaver

Can't wait to find out why they are talking about Gremlins! 😂 Gizmo is so cute. Don't get them wet and keep them out of the light I think was the tricks for them to not go bad.

Joe Weaver

Oh yeah that’s so true!!! Also when you wrote out the scenes of the music video like that I fathomed right now (!!) that it goes from one extreme to the next. Like first she’s completely submerged in water, then she’s in the driest desert, that is also really hot, then she’s in the coldest winter. Like maybe that’s also supposed to symbolise that the relationship went from extreme to extreme and they never managed to find that stable, secure and safe middle ground where things are actually manageable🤔

Emma

You guys must watch Gremlins and tell us what you think! Its a one of a kind movie for sure. It actually is what made Hollywood come out with a PG 13 rating. There used to only be PG and Rated R before this one!I You'll see why. It was rated PG when it came out. Your question on OOTW--I have thought about this. I think its the answer to the question she's actually asking. Like "Are we in the clear yet?" saying it over and over, and then they do get clear for a minute, and she's like, "Good." But then it starts all over again, because they are such a round and round. I love this whole session, the talking bits and the performances. The first time I saw it, I thought there didn't seem to be much reaction from the audience, but watching it again, I did notice some head bobs--but I also saw one guy shake his head in what looked like amazement when she was playing the voice memo for OOTW. Like, he completely recogonized the talent before him. I love that they made her a member of their group, that was so nice! I think my favorite of the performances is OOTW, but its also my fave song on 1989. They are all amazing though!

Jenny MacRunnel

I always heard the last chorus of HYGTG the way you fathomed it here ❤️

Ally ❤️

"like running towards a hurdle being anxious if they’re gonna make it, then comes the 'good!' they happened to make it but it’s immediately back to running towards the next hurdle" I like this. It reminds me of the MV - when she jumps off the cliff into the water she has a moment of rest, then poof, the water vanishes and she's in a desert. The water even splashes down around her like she fell from mid-air. Then there's a lone tree to shelter her from the sun, then poof, it's ice. Girl can't catch a break. I feel that.

Jezza Lee

I think she says "good" at the end of each chorus to represent the cycle that we know their relationship to be. In any anxiety filled relationship, there tends to be those moments of release (just like the production portrays) where you finally feel like things are good again. Only for the cycle to repeat and you're right back where you started.

Megan Townshend

Speaking of rock versions of Taylor songs done by other people.. have you seen the gflip cover of cruel summer?! So good!

Christine Violet

em: why is it giving ronan at the start? bonny: fuck you it's great to see you both and laugh along with your hilarious interactions! everything about this video is so deeply interesting. the producers talking about how her presentation was so good that they pity the person who has to go next is just more confirmation that taylor is a great storyteller, both lyrically and in recounting her recording processes. she's so naturally funny and weird and awkward and it's so endearing. this performance of wildest dreams and the 1989 world tour performance of we are never ever getting back together are my roman empire. please can we all just beg for the rock album?!? and people who talk shit about shake it off need to just sit down. this was a room full of music industry professionals, and the song that got them to stop sitting there like lumps and show emotion was shake it off.

Mex

YOU'RE TELLING ME THAT OUT OF THE WOODS WAS WRITTEN TO TRACK?!?!?!?!?! HOW DID I NOT KNOW THAT?!! THAT IS SO CONCERNING!!!!!!!!!!

Ileana Isabel

Oh okay I just had a thought about the “good!” after the repetition of “are we out of the woods” and “are we in the clear yet”. So Taylor mentions in the video that the song is about this relationship that came with continuous anxiety of WHAT THE NEXT HURDLE WOULD BE, okay so she compares it to running and jumping hurdles. I feel like the “good!” at the end really fits with this metaphor so like the “are we out of the woods yet?” and “are we in the clear yet?” is like running towards a hurdle being anxious if they’re gonna make it, then comes the “good!” they happened to make it but it’s immediately back to running towards the next hurdle and repetition of “are we out of the woods yet?” and “are we in the clear yet?”. So now that I think about it I feel like the structure of that whole chorus is really giving imagery of anxiously running towards hurdle not knowing if you’re gonna make it and then you happened to make it by chance but then it’s right back to running towards a new hurdle and it’s just this cycle of anxiety that your stuck in cause you haven’t prepared for or trained for the hurdles and you don’t know how good or bad your partner is at jumping them so it’s always uncertain if your both gonna make it over and if you do it’s not cause of training and a planned strategy you just happened to be lucky on that one but you also don’t wanna stop and break up so you’re just stuck in this cycle of always running towards hurdles you’re not prepared for which puts you in the CYCLE of “are we out of the woods yet?” ➡️ “good!” but then right back to “are we out of the woods yet?” and then “good!” ➡️ “awootwy?” ➡️ “good!” ➡️ “awootwy?” ➡️ “good!” ➡️ “awootwy?” ➡️ “good!” ➡️ hurdle approaching ➡️ jumping ➡️ hurdle approaching ➡️ jumping. And you’re just like we are bound to fall soon, is it gonna be the next one?? How many will we make it over before either of us fall or stops and just leave this whole setup?? It’s bound to happen eventually, and just always wondering if it’s gonna happen now or if you’re gonna make it a little bit longer. Idk, does that make any sense?? Only thing is like viewing it this way gives the impression of like them kinda going in and out of the woods and as she describes she viewed them more as always being in the woods during happy memories and crazy memories and whatever they were always in this uncertain place. But maybe the good is not like good! we’re out of it for a moment more like good we just jumped one hurdle but then again we’re still in the woods, are we not out yet okay what’s the next hurdle okay good jumped that one too pheew so are we out yet? oh no are we not out of the woods still okay then start looking for next hurdle and so on. But yeah just some random thoughts I had, gonna keep watching the video and your fathomings now🥰🥰

Emma

I was dying laughing at Bonny singing "in the clear yet YEAH" 😂

Liv

I always thought of it as each time she asks “are we out of the woods yet?”, or “are we in the clear yet?” it’s a different time in the relationship, so they come out of one hurdle- GOOD… then something else happens- are we out yet? GOOD, and so forth.

Christine Violet

I’ve heard of that, but never seen them

Ally ❤️

I always thought that the "good" lyric in "Out of the Woods" was an addition to the line of questions in the chorus, too. Are we out of the woods yet? Are we in the clear yet? Are we good? But she couldn't fit it all in, and also it rhymes with woods. And "Wildest Dreams" on the electric guitar is the most superior thing I've ever seen!

Lin Gill

I'd buy 113%

LanaJulie33

I have history with the Gremlins movies when i was around 7 years old and used to do the voice so I am naturally dying to talk to Taylor about it 😂😂😂

LanaJulie33

Isn't it true that this performance also included Clean, All You Had To Do Was Stay, and Shake it Off? I'd love to see those if they exist.

Jezza Lee

can’t wait for the wildest dreams and bad blood music videos reactions 🙏🏻

Mia Gregorio

The 'good' in out of the woods is one of my greatest mysteries

Rachael P

I CANNOT BELIEVE THERE ARE PEOPLE OUT THERE WHO SAY TAYLOR CAN'T SING

Katie LaFave

One of my fav videos of yours is actually the Grammy history breakdown! Doing a VMA one is a great idea

Regarding Chris Rowe, he's been her music director/producer for past (most of?) tours so he's familiar with recreating the music of her albums for her live performances.

I believe at the time she announced her intent to rerecord, Nathan was still under contract with BMLG. He did speak up/vouch for her during the whole Damon Albarn mess.

Came to say the same! I've taken it like an agitated interruption. She's asking him this question over and over, but she's also cutting him off, not allowing him to answer. Are we in the clear yet? Are we in the clear yet? GOOD. Out of the woods is full of anxiety and questions, but it's also pretty dogmatic. She starts off with "looking at it now" - she's reflecting, and is pretty confident in her diagnoses of the problems. I think the "GOOD" that cuts off the questioning is part of this juxtaposition. ((And also just saying, same vibe in Question...? with her passive aggressive "OH"s .... she wants to ask him a question while simultaneously going into super detail about her assessment of everything that went down))

Kenna Galloway

half way through this amazing reaction but on the 'good!' in OOTW, I always thought of it like the kind of pass agg, overly powerful you say 'good' in an argument when it's not going anywhere - which ties into the anxiety aspect of the relationship

Esther Newman

She wants to be out of the woods, because maybe than the relationship can survive. So that's why she says good at the end!

Julia

WHO ARE THESE MEN AND ARE THEY WORTHY? Literally put it on a t-shirt. 🤣😭

Jason

I've never thought about why she says 'good' in out of the woods and now I'm spiraling with you😂

Emily Van Allen

Oooh I just rewatched this again recently after 1989tv came out, I can't wait to see your reactions this is such a fun one! I could honesty listen to Taylor talk about the creation of every single song of hers I find it so fascinating to hear the behind the scenes like this!!

I would have loved being in that audience hearing what taylor said about each album and song, and how she came up with the ideas of those albums.
