Entering the woods = the initial anxieties about the relationship; chased by wolves = hunted by the paps and vicious trolls/1D fans; falling in the snow = ski trip and snow mobile accident; pulling off the necklace = the breakup on holiday and leaving on the boat; jumping into the water = trying to get clean; the desert = the 'drought' in their relationship, 'the flowers that they grew together dying of thirst'. The icy/snowy scene freezing her = him going cold on her? Or her frozen by this relationship? ('did you ever hear about the girl who got frozen? Time went on for everybody else, she won't know it, she's still 23 inside her fantasy...'). The crawling through mud scene with the storm = them getting back together (Style music video parallels)? Or her literally stuck in the mud, unable to get over him? The forest fire = her eventually burning down the relationship and setting herself free ... All for her eventually become one with these landscapes and each type of nature; to master her anxieties (the trees, the wolves) and to walk through them battered and bruised (torn up dress) but ultimately unscathed. Just stronger for it. Genius, this is definitely her best music video yet!

Because it’s important to have other directors work on her art to interpret it in different ways and then have Taylor input a little bit. As I feel like the videos such as Out Of The Woods are epic. When she says: "I think about jumping of very tall somethings just to see you come running, but no." Like she jumps thinking he would return, but he doesn't so everything gets dry. And the second time she's in the water you can see that there are fish in there, which could mean that she is really starting to clean up. Because in the emptiness of the sea begins to be life. And she realizes that she didn't want to jump for him but for the fact that she hadn't dealt with his absence yet.

2023-12-31 01:59:29 +0000 UTCI always love the sequence toward the end of this video of her falling and landing on the ground in the various settings in rapid succession - in the water, the desert, the mud, the burning forest, the sand, the snow. It was such a strong way to communicate the repetitive pattern of this relationship. They would try again thinking they were in a new, better situation, that things were improving, and every time she would find herself back on the ground. I also think the inclusion of the desert scene was maybe meant to be a callback to her waking up on the ground in a similar scene in the “I knew you were trouble” music video. Also, I love the paper airplane necklace reference in this video, but what I have always noticed about it was that yes, initially she seems angry and rips it off her neck to fling it away over the cliff, but then immediately afterward she is reaching out over the cliff as if she regretted throwing it, and is desperately trying to get it back, even at the risk of throwing herself over the edge of that cliff. I think this is probably my favorite Taylor Swift video. E & B pointing out that all the videos in the 1989 era seem to have this theme of circling back to where they began blew my mind a bit. Love to follow along with the fathoming!

I had such a big fathoming about the OOTW music video!: This MV loops from the end to the beginning, which is part of the story, but I only just recently fathomed that it is PART OF THE STORY… Like, the relationship/album story IS a loop. Constantly getting back together, even when they know it won’t last, they keep doing it anyway and keep on running into the same problems. “Watch us go ‘round and ‘round each time” in Style is a great example of this, but it’s also a theme in the entire album, relationship and the era because the Blank Space MV loops too.😱 AND (and this is where I lost my mind) with the new vault tracks added, the album loops as well. It ends with IION?, which is a question, but it sort of ends the album with a conclusion with the lyrics “I was hoping you’d be there and say the one thing I’ve been wanting, but NO”, so you think that that is the end and it is now definitively over. BUT, when you put the album on a loop, it then goes to WTNY. So, it ends with what you think is the conclusion, but you then go back to “Welcome”, so it all starts again… WHICH IS WHAT THE RELATIONSHIP WAS!!!!!😱🤯 The OOTW MV does kind of the same thing because it ends with a conclusion with the lines “She lost him, but she found herself. And somehow that was everything.”, but the story of the MV is still a loop, so it mirrors the album! I’m so fucked up.😂

The first time I came across your channel was when the folklore reaction came out and I was captivated by you but my first instinct was to say "my god, they are so loud and they scream so much, I don't know how to feel about it" and I left the video halfway through it, but then I kept thinking about you and YouTube kept suggesting the video so I ended up watching all and few hours after that I was binging every video of yours. I finally see what it was: the ick I initially felt was our society telling us that we cannot be excited, that we are girls and we cannot be loud and we cannot scream out of pure joy and excitement but suddenly when men do the same in a stadium and they scream out of rage and they're violent that's ok. This is so sick and I feel ill at myself for letting this stupid way of thinking misjudging you at first and I would like to apologize to myself as well cause I have always been very enthusiastic and loud when it came to things and people I love, I always screech at things I love 😂 and I suppress that for so long but even because you now I am very loud and proud when I like something. 2023-12-30 03:23:18 +0000 UTCIt's so interesting how much she uses the tree/vine imagery to represent both the positives and negatives of a relationship---on the one hand it's comforting and protective, but on the other it's restrictive and binding and holds you back from moving on. In Wonderland, she feels the arms twisting around her (like vines), in ivy she implores him to stop putting down his roots because the ivy (he) is overgrowing and what was once making her home so charming is now smothering her. It's this constant back and forth of her safe hiding places becoming the places she needs to hide from.

To run with the wolves - to get in touch with one's more wild and carefree side. you are allowing yourself unbridled freedom. There is a shot at the end where she is standing in front of the wolves, has the vines around her, but she's not running or anything, it's towards the end of the video (3:37) and I think it represents her getting through those struggles and being able to overcome/manage them. She lost him but she found herself. I think that fits in as well.

She really wanted to completely change with 1989. She wrote "this love" first for 1989 (I believe) and it very on theme for beach/ocean/tides/etc. I just think she wanted to distance her self from "small town country" to transition to like the City lifestyle. NYC is also the perfect place to launch, promote, perform an album. None of the 1989 music videos really give me "city" vibes, Bad blood is more spy/action flick. Even the album artwork is on the ferry. It's possible she escaped the city (Let's get out of this town Drive out of the city, away from the crowds) and was spending coastal time with HS. There are beaches in and very near to NYC. (PS she references wildest dreams in this love too) Love to you both, thanks for reading!

2023-12-30 01:08:47 +0000 UTCThe wolves being there could symbolize, as well, a song from One Direction’s OFFENSIVE album ‘Made In The A.M.’ where they have a track called ‘Wolves.’ Their album was released Nov 2nd and OOTW MV was released Jan 1st When she throws the necklace I feel like we see her regretting it and trying to catch it back - like her relationship going in circle/back and forth. And then she maybe is trying to be the airplane when she jumps off the cliff - trying to be something she’s not and only end up damaging herself for the sake of the relationship. Also not her lyric, “…I think about jumping off a VERY TALL SOMETHING” !!!! HELP !!!! The tree taking over her and bringing her down is the anxiety as we know the wood represents. Along with the bull of lights being symbolic of her memories from the relationship (after so many light references in 1989-songs and MV’s) AND then the tree (anxiety) is taking her back into the different environments (stages of their relationships) making her anxiety and confussion - of which environment their in = where they stand as a couple - more visually explained than ever. Her head is exploding. Her dress shortening and we see more skin, could be the wolves and the nature of the woods (her head and the relationship) taking some of her innocence. Or the dress symbolizes getting rid of the weight of the relationship, her feeling less. Which makes it easier for her to Run to herself. I am really fathoming WOW lastly, SHE FELL 13 TIMES *cardiac arrest*
