2024-04-08 12:15:18 +0000 UTComg I *also* had fathomings about High Infidelity maybe being about Joe and not Calvin fsdfdsfs.... I think for me, it was refathoming some of the fictional stories in Folklore and Evermore and imagining them as maybe projections/means of processing personal feelings, both hers and Joe's, without being upfront about it and having to bare their souls to the world, and thinking about songs like the Folklore love triangle and Ivy. Since YLM came out, I've been interpreting Champagne Problems as a song potentially exploring Joe's feeling regarding marriage, but from a nameless female character's perspective, in an attempt for Taylor to stand in his shoes and empathize with his thought processes ("I gave you all my best me's, my endless empathy" + they wrote this one together), and by extension also started thinking about the Folklore trilogy as a similar sort of "lets create characters to process this situation and work it out" kind of scenario. But also at the same time I can see why this wouldn't be the case dfsfdsfds. But as a whole, I think there's a lot of stuff worth refathoming in Folklore/Evermore as potentially being inspired by direct personal feelings and events, but being reimagined through the lens of fictional stories and characters in order create a sense of audience separation while neither of them were ready to either end things privately, or be public about any of the potential turmoil unfolding, because public scrutiny would only make it worse for the both of them. I know TTPD hadn't been announced when this refathoming episode was filmed, but now that we do know she had been working on that since Midnights, and that even Midnights had YLM in the vault since Nov 2021, I can 100% see her using Folklore/Evermore as both a shield an a sword; to help her fight against emotional demons while also giving her a sense of safety from public scrutiny while she dealt with heavy personal struggles.

That we have an actual album called Evermore though and it has the songs Coney Island, Ivy, Cowboy Like Me, Tis The Damn Season, Willow, Gold Rush, Champagne Problems, Marjorie, Long Story Short, Tolerate It, Happiness and Evermore actually still fucks me up to this day!! Every single track is a masterpiece!! 🍾

2023-10-15 20:32:01 +0000 UTCMy brain just made a connection: I was listening to cruel summer after the cinema and when she sings “Hang your head low in the glow of the vending machine I’m not dying” my brain made that a hospital scene, which made my brain jump because I had some memory in connection to Bonny saying that there is so much information missing, said in sort of relation to an accident. And after trying to find the association: in cony island “she” says “and when I got in to the accident the sight that flashed before me was you face”. I wonder if there was some sort of accident?

2023-10-15 20:31:16 +0000 UTCJust regarding fathoming how she’s feeling in the shows: I thought what she said in her speeches in the movie premiere screenings was really interesting about how whether she was sad or sick (or in pain I think she even said) or whatever was going on for her and the other performers - going out on stage and being greeted with such passion erased anything else that was going on for them. Joe wasn’t a big poster on social media which taylor would consistently ‘Like’ and the last time Taylor liked a post was April 2022. I am with Emily with the timeline. 2022 I believe started with the breakdown of the relationship and by spring it was over- additional songs written reflecting the demise of relationships for midnights was written and then released in October. She got through the holidays with family and friends to help her process . January she went right to work and started rehearsing for tour. The announcement of breakup was timed perfectly when they knew people would start asking about joe not in the audience in addition to Taylor wanting to be public with her fun fling with Matty. Just my 2 cents but seems posssible.

I think her saying she is lost in the Labrinyth of her mind maybe hints at her fathoming that she and joe are breaking apart and she feels like she cant escape the knawing in her mind, its a Labyrinth she doesnt know whether to leave or not and then the oh no i'm falling in love is maybe when things start going better again and joe manages to maybe inadvertently do something which makes her think it can work again (how did you turn the plane around). I get the feeling that the song almost feels circular and repetitive (literally and figuratively) like this was common towards the later parts of their relationship. She would realise they are actually incompatible and wont work out and she decides to end the relationship but then it gets good again and she stays. Thats why the oh no im falling in love sounds somber because she knows she is just repeating the cycle and 'falling in love' with him again and again like the honeymoon phase but that it wont last. Like the Labrinyth might be their relationship and she cant find a way to leave or end it maybe? Just some thoughts this song is way to complicated for my peasant brain

Knowing about the breakup now and having heard 'You're losing me' it feels like 'Labyrinth' is a description of the rocky last months (or years) of their relationship, where it was hard and she would feel like she needed to end it because they were heading towards a crash, but then he would kinda "sweep her off her feet" again and they would be fine for a while. Now when I hear 'Labyrinth' I just keep picturing them going round and round in this cycle of falling off and then falling back in love again ✨ Also the fact that it sounds a bit anxious like 'The Archer' makes me think that she was doubting herself a lot about her feelings and the relationship at that time.

They both have a descending staccato pattern. I'm pretty clear in my own mind about who it's about. She also said there's that one person who will always be the "question" who floats in and out of your life and you're never really done with when talking about 1989/Style. (she didn't use the word question in the interview but that's what a question is, right?)

Cuz the way the lyrics are written make it seem like Taylor is trying to make this sound like a hypothetical, generic question, but as it goes on it gets into more specific questions, did you leave her house in the middle of the night, did wish you'd put up more of a fight, do you wish you could still touch...her. it's just a question? Like she was holding herself back from saying do you wish you could still touch ME. And with 1989 coming I've been going back through the time period and it kinda gave me something to think about

I have to add this thought about the midnights album visual ... did you all see there was an interview that British GQ did with Joe Alwyn about his favorite objects... he talked about his lighter collection!! (You can view it on YouTube) So her looking at the lighter is also bringing in his known favorite objects - like her staring at this thing that he talked openly to the press about something he loved so much, but he never talked about her like that openly!! .... it's too much!!! Ahhh
