Now it’s bc it’s not a TV- so I don’t want to put a single penny in Scooters pocket (he gets enough from my Reputation streams), but I am excited to hear Taylor NOW sing and revisit Debut for us. I am depending on your fathomings and breakdowns of the album to really solidify its place in the discography and in my heart, lol. I am always so amazed at Tay’s songwriting ability at that age- her lyricism and storytelling is far beyond her years and maybe now Debut will hit different bc it’s not a teenager singing

2024-04-08 10:27:02 +0000 UTCCatching up on the refathomings; I always interpreted that this performance of You're Not Sorry and the emotions within it were reflective of the struggle she had with losing her masters, and the betrayal she felt from those involved. Obviously the breakup news was fresh on everyone's minds, but the way she talked about the rerecords and specifically talked about falling back in love with this song *while* rerecording stands out to me. And obviously we didn't know this at the time, but while there are lyrical parallels to You're Losing Me, we now know that she didn't write that song until late November of 2021, and she had been doing rerecording work on Fearless through 2020/early 2021, the same period of time where she was writing with Joe and they were still together. This was also prior to her having any knowledge of how successful the rerecords would be, and how much fans would love them. I very much think that You're Not Sorry, while a vessel for emotions she may have been processing during this time, is something she re-fell in love with as a means of being able to associate it with her grief and betrayal regarding her needing to rerecord things at all.

Kelly Clarkson told her to do it, Taylor’s fans would get behind it, plus Kelly herself would be first in line to buy a copy. I remember when Prince went through something similar with his work. It’s when he changed his name to a symbol. Taylor is not the first to do it, but she’s definitely the most successful with it. No surprise there though lol

2023-10-09 05:59:07 +0000 UTCI love that Bonny just fathomed the similarity between You’re Not Sorry and Apologize because I remember that being all the rage when Fearless first came out and my friend and I taught ourselves how to play it on piano and combined the two songs in this heartbreaking duet and it was fabulous in the most tragic of ways. I think it was mostly brought to our attention by Taylor’s performance combining Back To December/Apologize/You’re Not Sorry but personally I liked creating a much longer combined version of them and having two people to sing it back and forth. I think a lot of people enjoyed the combo though cuz I remember a lot of YouTube covers of it. (Back when covers were all the rage on YouTube.) Anyway all that to say thank you for the trip down memory lane and now I feel a strong urge to go play Taylor on the piano again.

I really re fathomed begin again afterwards too, it’s SUCH a good song. I mean truly, we go through a breakup thinking we’ll never get over it but sure enough it’s like we blink and one day we are watching it begin all over again. The produced version is the perfect song for all the fantasy live-action Alice in wonderland movies. Every time the song starts with those few notes, I imagine they just ended the movie on a line to set up the next film & then the credits roll ✨✨✨✨

She referenced in an interview (I forgot which) that her be Joe always connected over sad music. So maybe even this is a reference to the sad music they listened to together. The songs he has writing credit on are: betty, exile, champagne problems, coney island, evermore, and Sweet Nothing. While there’s a sliding scale of sadness there, I would say that most of them can easily be described as “sad songs” with betty being more ambiguous and Sweet Nothing not being sad at all. Love you both and loving these videos!!
