Speak Now ICONIC Interview (Youtube Presents) 2011

WOW guys this was so fun, Taylor really said some things that helped us fathom Speak Now even deeper!!!  SHE IS JUST SO TAYLOR SWIFT I CANT! Love you

Speak Now ICONIC Interview (Youtube Presents) 2011

Comments

If I ever need to dress in TSwift related costume, I'm going for the most obscure references 1. The lime green dog 2. Thug Story Taylor

Renee S. Smith

Her interest in history and past decades totally ties to timeless but also I hate it here!!!

Deborah

Speaking of Eras tour costumes, my 2 favorites were the red scarf guy (husband of swiftie and former UCLA college volleyballer- I think her name is Victoria something) and someone who was dressed in a traffic light costume with IDK on the lights

Kelly Prang

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button is a short story by F. Scott Fitzgerald, one of Taylor’s favorite authors! 💖

Brittany Fitzgerald

omg. Airport bathroom, 4am…was “I almost do”!?!?

Ian Hartdige

I fully believe atw short film IS the Easter egg 🐣 for a future book 📖 she’s absolutely going to release something one day & it will be completely illegal 📚

Sacred_sunflower

Tori has def inspired Taylor as an artist! For sure

Sacred_sunflower

Oh wow whenever she said she reads historical books and now we have Timeless during this time it’s like wow it all makes sense!

Jeffrey Dayton

what a fascinating interview! love this watch & your commentary - she really has always been Taylor Swift hasn't she? what a mind, what a mind, what a mind!

Jaimie C

Also I’m reflecting on the fact that it’s kind of surprising I even discovered Taylor many years ago. I’m kind of unusual because I’m a 71 year old mom of three who got into a wide variety of music such as Radiohead, Sting, Foster the People, because my kids brought artists they liked to my attention. And HAIM - yes! Thanks to my son Jesse I have known HAIM for 10 years, have all their music, was the only one for miles who got up and danced during their entire set at Eras tour! In fact, a man behind me was complaining about having trouble seeing and I turned around, flashed him a big smile, and said, “If you love HAIM, stand up!” But none of my kids is into Taylor and here I am a Swiftie since her Speak Now era. Kind of a minor miracle.

Karen Valentino

I was struck by Taylor talking at such a young age about hoping her music would continue to grow and change as she did, and that her fans would grow with her. “Wish me luck there.” Iconic. I’m a boomer whose idol beginning at age 16 was Joni Mitchell, and there’s a strong parallel there. The difference being perhaps that Joni was determined to continue to push her own boundaries and seemed less concerned about how that might affect her fans’ view of those changes.

Karen Valentino

Loved this. But please do the Tiny Desk reaction. Her and Dave Berry ate so funny

Dibbs Storey

I sincerely hope she comes to Canada 🇨🇦 🍁 🌲 🐻 🏕️ 🫎

michelle stuart

I came here to say the same thing! My heart is broken for them 😭😂

Courtney Thomas

You guys missed rwylm by one night 🥺

Yaya

i’m so sorry for the song losss😭😭

Noah Sharon

Her being obsessed with history and writing Timeless during this time! Wow!!

Whitney

Benjamin Button is the movie with Brad Pitt that she loves.

devin dear

The Easter eggs that she doesn’t even know are Easter eggs for her own life is too much. What an iconic woman

Amanda Christon

Ohhh thanks for researching!

alex

“Googler” is a Google employee.

Emzies

“beauty is sincerity” i sense a new c&r tattoo

kate

Thank you and Marion for sharing - I am sooo gonna dig into her music. Any song recs for those of us unfamiliar?

Philip Kim

Omg C&R book club when the inevitable novel(s) happen(s)! UNFATHOMABLE.

Philip Kim

Since you’re in your speak now era, you should do a reaction to the speak now world tour..it’s on youtube for free :).

Sophie Enns

I watched this too a few months back, and was so overwhelmed with her talking about songs from The Vault and about koi fishes haha

Yoel (YtReX)

I might be thinking too much into it but she says she was here 5 years ago when she was 16 which would make her 21 and in ATW10 it’s her 21st birthday so this could be after JG and her broke up. ETA: I went and searched! This is dated 9/1/2011 so she would be turning 22 so I think you’re right!

Allie

Hey Seven, ditto re Tori, see my msg (four comments above yours)!

Marion

A really comprehensive, well-researched throwback to Taylor’s beginnings has been posted by a Youtuber called felea, ref. https://youtu.be/6XMQ6OXnDes

Marion

I am the same ! I was a total rock music person when I first discovered Taylor and becoming a Swiftie was a bit of a Jump but her lyrics helped me relate to her way more than I could relate to most of the Rock music band I was listening to at that time. I mean Led Zeppelin and The Strokes are legendary but as a teen there was a lot of songs I couldn't really relate to in that way. And suddenly I was like : "damn same" ! She definitely helped me expand my range of music appreciation. Good for you for going on Rep Tour !

Adélaïde K

Riley, I totally agree with you regarding Emily and Bonnie ! It really inspires me as well and the fact that they seem so much closer to us than Taylor makes them such a good source of inspiration in that way. Thanks for quoting Taylor like that, I remind that myself everyday when I feel like I need to be myself more 💜

Adélaïde K

Love that for us Anna 💜

Adélaïde K

Oh Emma ! Thank you for this, ironic thing is I was a bit hesitating posting this comment and had to be brave a bit haha but your comment made my day, I'm so glad it resonates that way for you too. And you said it perfectly too : Taylor really is constantly creating the space for that and Oh My aren't we grateful, love to you 💜

Adélaïde K

I immediately thought of Jake G and I bet you think about me when she talked about the man not wanting her to write a „bad“ song about his behavior… because doesn’t she say in the end of IBYTAM „omg she’s insane she wrote a song about me“ (him talking) but I don’t know if it fits timing wise and it could definitely be John Meyer

alex

this is the video she was talking about https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3nZP9kaLFf4

deckman916

19:10 taylor probably felt this away watching Bon&Em reacting to "the last great american dynasty" on tiktok when they realize its about her house.

sharon teles

"Imagine sleeping next to Taylor Swift and she's just ratatatatatata".🤣

Char

No that was a lot for me, still not over it!!!

Chats & Reacts

taylor was also in an episode of CSI!! you guys should react to it

Katie LaFave

the okay dan humphrey comment KILLED me

Julia Fisher

Half of those views for Shake It Off were from me when my kid was 1 year old 😂

F1Swiftie

I loved all the vault tracks from Speak Now TV. When Emma Falls In Love has been stuck in my head for days. In this video, when she spoke of writing for other artists, remember that Taylor was hired as a staff writer for a label when she was like 14. They also gave her a development deal that she ended up walking away from a year later because they wanted her to sing songs from other writers and follow the “formula” to turn her into a star lol I bet they regret that every day. Taylor knew she wanted to write her own music and had the guts to tell them no, and wait for a deal that fit better. Enter Scott B. And while he’s a jerk now, he had the foresight to see her talent.

Tess7

I remember watching this at the time, I was so impressed with her answers. The thing that drew me to Taylor first, was her lyrics. I am more of a rock music person, that also likes other genres or certain artists. I remember watching Taylor with Stevie Nicks (the queen) and thinking to myself, you’re going to get there girlie- keep going 🙂 I’ve followed her career all these years and finally did get to see her on the Rep tour. I love Taylor’s music and how she changes with every album.

Tess7

You guys should know by now that you don’t have to ask whether we want videos of this or that….the answer is always yes! Give us all the things, all the content. We love watching y’all talk about Taylor.

Brittany DeLara

you guys are right that we got folklore & evermore a year after lover, but midnights was after a 2 year period like what she had done before. then we probably won't get TS11 until 2024 which will be 2 years after mdinights. it just doesn't feel that way cuz in between brand new albums, we've been getting re-records. i just think folklore/evermore were something special because of the lockdown & taylor didn't have to worry about the press, public, she wasn't on tour, ect...

Katie LaFave

Omg yes!

Ellie

And Tracy Chapman.

JC S

red socks before red !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

maya zutra

I watched blank space music video 1B times myself alone

Fabiana

I just loved the history answer! Now you guys know about "Timeless," which makes so much sense now that she wrote it in that era! AHHHH! Em, that's so cool!!!

Jenny MacRunnel

I was thinking the same thing!

Jenny MacRunnel

So the elder millennials, we had a songstress that bewitched us before Taylor. Her name is Tori Amos. And us fans which she calls Ears With Feet, would scour like rats for her unreleased, demos, live versions etc. And she started releasing them to us officially like 15 years into her career. I am quite surprised you guys haven't listened to her, especially her earlier years.

Ellie

YES

MF SS

lmaoo

MF SS

Talking about people being desperate for recorded versions of unreleased songs and what other artist has that, HARRY STYLES. I would kill for a recorded version of Medicine and a bunch of his other unreleased songs he plays on stage or that have been leaked!!!

ArielStormborn

love this interview!! please react to her blogs too, there are so many on her youtube page

Mia Gregorio

A couple of things! This was during the speak now tour era which is to me is peak Jake time… so when she mentioned writing a song in the airport on a paper towel I immediately thought of come back be here (a red song that had yet to be released), so when she said being up at 4am and Bon & Em mentioned Better Man- I was like YES! Im right there with y’all! 🤩

Laura Bolanos

Yes! I think Taylor, Bonnie, and Emily all have that same special charisma that inspires you to be fearlessly yourself after watching them be themselves with such poise and kindness :) obviously not saying bon and em have been through the level of media scrutiny that taylor has, but seeing CNR make ceaselessly joyful content even after some people poke fun is the best ❤️ Like Taylor says, the worst kinds of people are the ones that shit on you for your passions and excitement

Riley Swain

Thank you so much, I remember that now! 🥹

Anna Johansson

I love that for you, and us! 💜

Anna Johansson

I think it was a TikTok. Here is the link on IG: https://www.instagram.com/reel/CUi15dCBBOo/?igshid=NjIwNzIyMDk2Mg==

Esme (MadWoman@TheLakes)

What video is that? On youtube?

Anna Johansson

I guess it's not readily easy for you two to know this, just because of your age, but several things that you are crediting Taylor with for starting, actually she didn't. I am 49 years of age and since 1991 through till about a few years ago I was a diehard Tori Amos fan, and it was Tori who had fans bonkers about her "b-sides"/unreleased songs/vault tracks, and it was Tori who was one if not *the* first artist, at the end of the 90's, who released songs to the internet, as well as fans creating a multitude of webpages devoted to her, and thus seized the new technology to connect with her fans, and who became famous precisely for her songwriting from a place of shameless, raw emotion, and who kept pushing herself - and her fans along with her - from genre to genre, incorporating different instruments, collaborators, beats, tech, singing styles from album to album. Not to mention the head whipping at the piano. 😄 And sticking up for herself and masterminding confrontations with industry execs. Way before Tay even began her music career. I absolutely adore Taylor and you guys, please don't misunderstand; just adding my perspective and history.

Marion

For example on the covers, she did Train, "Drops Of Jupiter" & Green Day, "Good Riddance (Time Of Your Life)" in the two shows in San Jose after this interview. Both bands are from the Bay Area. Train is from San Francisco & Green Day is from Berkeley.

Joe Weaver

"...is one of the most FREEING experiences." is the line from your comment that made me feel the "yes yes yes THAT'S the line, that perfectly wraps it up". You're so right. It is truly a FREEING experience being able to be so UNAPOLOGETICALLY ENTHUSIASTIC and to SHARE this enthusiasm, to be "CRINGE" and having a community that appreciate and almost prefer you being "cringe" (if there is ever such a thing) and isn't weirded out by you "overdoing" something, but rather react excited and amazed when someone's doing more than what was expected or demanded from them because they genuinely wanted to cause they were excited and felt inspired. It's really nice to have a community like that, thanks CNR! <3 and I feel like Taylor is constantly creating the space for such a community to exist 💜

Emma

Marion

if taylor gives us a book one day imagine her reading it on audible and you can fall asleep to a taylor swift night time story in addition to lullabies

Nin

her watching law and order and shit, who's gonna tell her about no body no crime

Nin

LISTEN EM AND BONNY we would VERY much like if you reacted to Taylor’s Youtube vlogs! I always presumed you would eventually react to those so I don’t want you to think for a second that we don’t want them!

Geneva

what do I have to do to get Bonny to wear a chicken costume this weekend?

Nin

O!M!G! if she releases a book someday I just feel now that I soo neeed you to have like a series where like every week you film as you're reading one(or however many that's appropriate per video) chapter(s) and like that is how you're reading and reacting to the book for the first time!! And you can alternate so like every other week Bonny reads and every other Emily reads. And like just film you reading + discussing whatever strikes your mind to discuss (a chapter title, a sentence, a storyline, a character, a feeling described, how she worded something - aaahhhhh so much to fathom if this ever happens) and then you can end the entire series with like a long chat about the book in general and all your fathomings a little while after having read it. oh my GOD, I need this. Taylor Swift, the AUTHOR of a BOOK (aaahhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!) has always been in the back of my mind a little bit but you mentioning it made it feel so real for a moment (ah! ah! aaaahh!) and made me put it in the context of like.. reality (haha), god this would be so iconic! Wait.. what if she would write a book under a pseudonym and release it secretly.. what if she already has!?.. No, she hasn't had the time yet to write a book, right..? Yeah but no. Anyways, book era, soo superior, iconic, everything!! PS. Also about this video (got so wrapped up in the book idea there for a moment hehe), I watched this interview a while back and really been thinking about how I would love for you to react to it and then there it was! Made me so happy and excited! Great video <3 Hope you're having a great time on your trip, and soon it's time for your show iiiiihhhh!

Emma

this was soooooo good omg ! 💗 also i would love reactions to the vlogs — never saw them before so that would be really fun !! i love her so much her saying what makes someone beautiful .. that was just so heartwarming just yesssss 🥺

Nele

First impression one minute in to the interview the hair is giving massive downton abbey vibes and I love it.

Jas

I wonder since she said she enjoys watching other peoples reactions to her lyrics if she still enjoys that and watches videos like yours on YouTube. Even the fact she commented on your Last Great American Dynasty video!

Courtney

Her ability to make me feel seen and to be so fearlessly herself is the most inspiring thing. Just watching her talk and to just be, gives me a boost of energy and comfort. And the thing is, with this community (CNR) it's beautiful to see all the ways it's affecting so many of us. The way we are able to be so unapologetically enthusiast about music and art and to share this enthusiasm, to be "cringe", if there is ever such a thing, is one of the most freeing experience. I know it might sounds like a lot, but this all experience is really a big part of my self healing journey. 💜

Adélaïde K

yess I thought of the getaway car bridge as well, that was exactly the same face she made there "that was the last time you ever saw me aaaaa"

Nin

This whole video is just insane and so Taylor Swift! Ha 🥹 also the better than revenge knowing, and just reveling in Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) and they say in this video that we have watched her grow and like she doesn’t even realize how much people actually love her&her music and how big she is now while we have watched her grow! Thanks again for another superior video (also we love petty sassy Taylor even if she is delulu during Speak Now lol!)

Alana Ashley

when she said "I think for me"

Nin

The speech at the end about sincerity is the most beautiful sentiment put into words. Wow. Thank you for another lovely, cosy, Speak Now video! Continue having the most fun in NY and at the Era's tour on the weekend! <3

Leilani Willcox

omg loveeee the part where she mentioned about reading all the historical stuff because it reminds me not only about starlight like you guys mentioned but also timeless now that we have it!

Quintin

Didnt she worked as a writer first in a music label because they said shes too young to be the singer or sumthing like that. Or like while waiting for a singing deal. So she must have written/co written songs before she even was able to release her own songs

Arne Cabigas

I remember I stayed up really late to watch this back then (I’m in the UK & had school the next day🤣)

Rachel Thompson

JULY 29TH IS SO CLOSE

khushi04

thank you for this!! love you and hope you are having the best time in NYC!! i saw that you went to hamilton!! hamilton is my FAVORITE!!
