Not sure if the new costumes were already planned for this show or not but this could have been a factor (They were ensured for $5 million$

An on top of that the sax that Christina mentioned is very reminiscent of Jazz music, which was literally called "the devil's music", "Back in the 1920s, parent groups and a good many clerics were much exercised by the seductive, destructive power of jazz and the blues. The devil's music, they called it"(washington post). So not only are they praying to a false god on the alter that is her body - two sins, the false god and the sex. She's built the song on a jazz influenced sound, which is the devil's music. There are som many levels to this song one could write a fucking dissertation on it. I just can't understand how this song can go so unnoticed in it's brilliance. It's like an academic wet dream. I LOVE IT! It's genius!

To make a false god is to worship an idol or an object of anything other than the 'one true God', literally #1 in the 10 Commandments is "I am the Lord your God, you shall not have any other gods before me." So Taylor, of bible-belt country music Christian tradition, has made a whole song about breaking the first commandment- 18 year old Taylor would be aghast at her own blasphemy

The fact that she’s basically saying that sex between them, the intimacy, is her god, her belief, I found so radical for T-swissle - especially as she’s American (they be crazy with their religion). It feels like something Lana would do, not Taylor though. And to me, that felt SO exciting.

The lyrics are gutwrenching under the circumstances, and the audience knew it. It was an excruciatingly beautiful but tension-filled performance. I think she just wants to rip the bandaid off and sing these tough songs to build up her immunity, but in front of 70k people? She's really unbelievably strong.
