Dragontwins Part 1

I haven't talked much about the lore of the game before, mainly because it is still being worked out, but this week I wanted to share some ideas about the most important piece of lore in the game. Since there's a lot to unpack, I will only focus on how Dragontwins are made and what they look like in this post, and leave capabilities and such for later. This will mostly be me rambling about some half-baked ideas that may or may not make it into the lore in the end, but I think it'll be interesting nonetheless.

What is a Dragontwin? As hinted at elsewhere, it is a mortal that has been soul bound to a dragon, a condition that can only be created shortly after the simultaneous birth of the mortal and hatching of the dragon. Why? Because that is when their souls arrive from the ethereal realms to possess the bodies, misguided and malleable as they are not yet fully bound to their designated vessel. Through a ritual of soulbinding, it is possible to redirect the souls as they fill up their vessels, channelling the dragon's soul into the child's body, and the child's soul into the dragon's. Once the process is complete, the newborn twins are forever bound to each other through their shared souls.

The influence from the dragon soul can result in draconic features developing in the child as it grows. The most common influence is in the eyes, where the color shifts into that of the dragon, often a color rarely seen in humans. The pupil shape will also sometimes morph into a distinctively reptilian slit with a frightening gaze. The color of the hair will often match or contrast the dragon's scales in some way, and in rare cases the child may develop scaly skin themselves. Another possible feature is the development of draconic horns protruding from the head, often matching those of the bound dragon. Tails may or may not have been reported, the records are unclear on that.

Those are some of the ideas I've had for what dragontwins are and what they look like. The draconic features idea is fairly recent but I like it, makes them seem more distinct from random humans and also provides cool character customization options to make really unique looking characters if you choose to. The idea is that the dragon and dragontwin look like they match each other and are part of a whole.

It'd be cool if some people opposed the idea of a DragonTwin. Like people who view Tieflings as devils

Maybe something like sharing the same feelings? Like if the rider is angry or is hurting the dragon feels the same and is affected by that?
