It’s just played in a lower register which I don’t think is as common or what most people are used to hearing from a flute. I also love Don’t You because I’ve definitely been in this situation with an ex and I’m so glad we have this song 💛

I hadn't thought about the possibility of her writing more pop-oriented songs back then, but not being able to put them on Fearless because country production wouldn't work (and ultimately it was Scott's decision what the final sound was like back then)!

I gifted myself the Rouje heart earrings today, after thinking about them for so long. My main intention for 2023 is to let more love into my life and so far it has been such a good year. I think heart shaped earrings are a really pretty representation and reminder for this intention. And of course now I am twinning with Taylor and you guys, which just makes them more special ❤️

Fearless is one of my favorite albums of hers but I do agree that 'Don't You' doesn't really sound like Fearless! Still feel so blessed she gave us that, because I am a 'This Love' 'The Archer' 'this is me trying' girlie and I love this type of dream pop synthy pop vibe SO MUCH! Gotta say tho, I used to listen to that song on REPEAT but now I listen to it a little less (reminds me of not so fun times). Still my favorite Fearless vault track tied with 'That's When'. I think in comparison to many of her other songs, some people feel like the lyrics may not be as hard-hitting or poetic, I guess? To me this song really captures a VIBE, a feeling. The sound and production put me in a certain mood that complements the lyrics so well. And I love that song for it!

It was really bugging me, couldn’t make sense of it. Because the Lover house was her and Joe so why burn it down? And then came the news. Now when I hear songs from Midnights realizing they haven’t been together for some unspecified amount of time, several could be interpreted to be about Joe. Alwyn, that is. (Hopefully the next bf won’t be named Joe.) 😉

2023-04-20 19:10:24 +0000 UTCMaybe it was written around the time but it didn't work with the Fearless sound so got discarded as she was still very much in country, but then upon revisiting in 2020/1 and having worked on Lover, pop production and songs like This Love and mirrorball, those dreamy type songs, something clicked when going back to do rerecords and she had a lightbulb moment with Don't You. As I agree, it sounds much more like her recent styles.

I think you’d much prefer it over their 2021 album altho I would simply pass away if I could watch you guys listen to “slow dancing” for the first time 😅 one of my very very favs! please & thank you I know you guys have so much on your lists I just really think you’d like it 🥰❤️✨

Along with Labyrinth and Archer, this synthy vibe and Taylor's voice just sound soooo good to my ears....I'd love an 80's Synthy album!

My favourite part is the bridge - I don't know, there's something in the melody and this almost like echoey sound of "I don't want to pretend". 2023-04-20 06:00:05 +0000 UTCi agree that this one is probably about joe jonas, it really fits the whole narrative we get in mr perfectly fine. i personally think that the beat coming in throughout kinda sonically represents those strong emotions welling up as she tries to recover from this interaction retrospectively. the beat and the drums are there until almost the very end, and it feels like in the last 10 seconds, she‘s beginning to calm down again? and that‘s when we get a little jack fade too. i don‘t know lol, it‘s just how i like to think of it i love this song so much, it‘s my fav fearless vault track!! 💛

2023-04-20 05:54:45 +0000 UTCYes!! I really love the last line of the chorus in this song, and I agree with how you said the "why don't you" is kinda separate from the last "don't you?". I interpret it as the first being "why don't you love me anymore?" and the other being "don't you love me anymore?", especially given the line before it is talking about how much she still loves him. It's almost like the first one is more angry and questioning him and his feelings and his intentions. The last one sounds more heartbroken and questioning the situation itself, like "don't you love me anymore? don't you feel all these feelings I still feel for you? don't you want me back too?" 🙈🙈🙈 anyway, I got a little carried away, but I love this song so much!! And that line is one of my favorites

2023-04-20 05:34:43 +0000 UTCi feel like the “i swore i wouldn’t do this” is her upset with herself breaking the boundaries she set on her emotions. as if she ran through this scenario in her mind, if she were to ever run into him again. thinking she wouldn’t stare and ignore him and stay “strong” but she couldn’t help it. and because she stared and he noticed her, every other emotional boundary she set broke down when he approached her. he started a conversation filled with all these pleasantries of smiling at her and saying he’s missed her because to him, she seemed to want to talk because she was staring.

I am consistently overwhelmed by how she can capture two emotions in the same story/circumstance so well
