Football games every Friday night, the band was on the far side of the bleachers and next to the was the student section (my schools was called “the crazies” but it usually had something to do with the mascot) and during half time the cheer & pom (dance) squads were do a little routines. We also had a girl who did baton and would light them on fire and do like a fire dance! The best games were always vs your schools rival!

It is a huge part of high school culture. I was a member of the marching band 9-12th grade but it wasn’t the stereotypical football/cheerleader = cool and band = nerd at my school or any schools around me. We weren’t as cliche oriented as movies/tv make it seem all American high schools are at all.

There's the cool, bitchy girl who dates the quarterback, there's the nerdy girls and smart girls in the band and in the stands, the kids sneaking alcohol, and the ones smoking under the bleachers. The gangs all here! Of course, I went to school MOONS ago, but I can confirm that it was STILL like this when my sons were in high school! Wow...just revealed my age. I think this is one of those Taylor songs that gave lots of young women a voice; I've seen many stories online of women saying they sang YBWM to the clueless guy they wanted and now the two of them are married.

The players wore their jerseys to school on game days and we wore our cheerleading outfits. We had pep rallys and all of it (I am older than you, graduated in 2000). This is real life in America lol

We have a drill team (like a dance team) as well and the cheerleaders usually face the student section - not the field. Other than that it’s pretty accurate!! The players also wear their jerseys to school on game day!

I did the tall person sport of basketball. But my slow feet & lack of jumping ability ended that dream after 8th grade. 😂

Eating hot dogs and candy from the concession stand. At my school we had like a section of trees blocking a patch a field that a lot of kids hung out in or you would walk to the visiting side and talk shit to the high school students over there til a fight started.

Still, I think it does depend on the size of the school and what part of the U.S., the movies and tv shows make it all a bit more dramatic, but the athletes definitely were the popular kids.
