Oh my goodness, I’ve just stumbled across this video and it’s crazy how much has happened in the space of 18 months! I was at this 1975 show and I absolutely died right there when she came out on stage. Her name came up on the screen just before she walked out and I honestly didn’t believe it. Spent the whole time she was on stage in complete shock 😂 one of the best/craziest nights of my entire existence! The whole crowd went wild too! SO ICONIC. 😍 So interesting looking back on that night now too given all that has happened since. A moment for the history books. Love you guys, thank you for all the content you bring to us!! 💗

I think she partially did the appearance and sang all of Anti-Hero to break the record of having a #1 song on the Hot100 for 8 weeks (which she just posted about on her stories). I think this was a way to keep the buzz going for the song

I think it is much easier for her to be closer to a regular person in London than in the US. I am not really sure why, because the London press are terrible. but people and the press in London seem to be more willing to accept her without freaking out.

Thank you for saying all of this!! And I totally agree, there is a way to anticipate what she does next without *demanding* it and expecting it to come when we want it or behaving like we deserve it. The thing is that we know we will get all of the re-records, its just a matter of time, and even though excitement is high, I like that she is taking her time so we all have more to anticipate!

I saw some comments made by a few people on insta who were there and they were super negative towards Taylor.. calling anti hero manufactured pop and how she can't sing..why is she there and one guy said I hope she doesn't date Matt Healy cause she will then write a cheesy break up song about him. So not everyone was happy to see her. I personally had never heard of 1975 prior to this appearance

Totally agree. I honestly don't think she expected Midnights and Anti-Hero to be THIS successful, and so she is trying to keep that going for as long as she can, and that is blocking release of other things. But that is a good thing for Taylor, and we should be happy for her! Also, as someone for whom 30 has long since disappeared in my rear-view mirror, you are never too old to appreciate genius!

I just listened to The City on Spotify; I am not sure I would have recognized it as the same song! Heavy drums and electric guitar, along with Matty singing in a very thick British accent. Amazing how Taylor can find the core of the song underneath all that!

Just wanted to say that I've read sooo many comments on instagram lately of fans like demanding Speak Now TV and it's so shocking to me that there are sooo many fans out there that are not content with the "era" we're in and just enjoying it! I love y'all's approach to it, of course we're anticipating the next re-record but y'all are so happy with the little surprise performances and so understanding of her having a personal life as well. This appearance reminds me that one of the reasons so many fade and she's still here is because she doesn't actually need much. She can just show up with a guitar all by herself and rule the stage. If record companies ever try to push her out to pasture as a geriatric pop star like they seem to have done to Katy Perry, she can just do solo performances like this. Separately, the structure of the 1975 show is that the set is like a 1975 sitcom stage, and they perform in two acts. When they have guests (Taylor is not the only one they have had), the guest often comes in at the beginning of the second act without the 1975, as Taylor did here. And I totally agree it is extremely ballsy to perform one of their songs, which she probably only rehearsed for a few days, in front of their audience, You have to have a lot of self-confidence to do that! But she did it really well.

Thanks for your comments! Thoughtful and emotional as always. My Twitter TL exploded when this happened 🤪. And the setting is not so small as you mentioned: a sold out O2 Arena with 20000 attending. She made it her concert for 8 minutes! The 1975 sold out two shows back to back and fans during the 2nd show seemed a bit disappointed Taylor didn’t show up again 😂

I totally agree that she probably did this as kind of an extension of her rehearsals for the tour! We know she is rehearsing right now, so seems to make sense to do a "live" rehearsal? Wouldn't be surprised if she did more. Also, maybe she's kind of making peace with The 1975 fans who may have been bummed their Midnights contribution didn't make the cut?
