And while I'm sure I'm not the only one with this idea, I've not seen anyone bring this up, so I'm hoping with your help maybe we can get this out into the TS universe! With the recent disaster with TM handling of the Earas tour I think one solution to the problem would be for TS to do a Streaming concert where we can buy tickets and be able to see her in concert! Imagine the streaming parties her fans could have and we would All be able to see her in concert! Anyway, If anyone likes this idea please do what you can to push this out into the Universe and hopefully some one brings this to actually happen! 2022-11-09 11:54:18 +0000 UTCI had similar thoughts as you two when I first heard Midnight Rain, thinking Tom, but after fathoming it for a while, it makes me think it could be referencing the boy she talked about in We Were Happy on Fearless. She mentions the night/darkness several times, marriage, that she was at fault, and then of course rain was a huge thing on Fearless as a whole. "I wanted that pain" also could confirm the link from that song to The Way I Loved You (which, btw, randomly has a clock as the background on its official lyric video). To me it fits better than Tom, especially for "making my own name" and "chasing that fame" since she was already more famous than him at the time of their relationship. Just some random 3am thoughts I thought I'd share while watching this reaction for the 3rd time 😂

Since I never comment on Youtube because of my Internet paranoia, I'm glad to be able to comment on this here. You remember I was the one saying "OK, everybody, try to lower your expectations for Midnights; no one could ever match them". Well, obviously I was wrong about that! I do think, as you both said, that this album clearly reflects the processing she has had to go through in doing the re-recordings. But I also think it reflects her thinking about the fans and the music industry; she analyzed us and the business and gave us what we wanted and needed while completely taking over the charts. Given that attention she pays, I do wonder why she did not give Lana a verse--she knew we wanted that. Hope we find out why someday. I don't want to go on too long, but I did want to say that your original Bejeweled interpretation could easily be valid, as well as the Calvin and Joe interpretation. She is a master of double meanings, and it really could be both. Can't wait for the Anti-Hero featuring Bleachers reaction! I can just imagine her giggling as she released it anticipating your conniptions!
