It really seems like she’s trying to tell us again (in Would’ve could’ve should’ve, Great War, etc) that her deepest, most formative traumas originated in that era. And when someone takes a shot at her, that’s the inner wound that resurfaces! Freaking John Mayer, she’s haunted!!!

She is an artist and artist explore. She doesnt need the money, she has had every award given and global popularity. There is a great interview with Sting about how he had to move beyond just tryng to craft pop masterpieces and do the kind of music and lyrics that made him want to keep creating. Paul, Sting, Joni, Bruce,Stevie etc all some of my favorites of favorites made albums I just didnt like. I have no doubt that will happen with Taylor. Then she will release the next album and all we go fuck yeah T, Emily and Bonnie I think I have made it to my Junior year at Taylor University. Thank you for the pvt tutorials,. lol. This is such a sad story sprinkled with purple glitter and a great beat. Genius!

2022-11-05 03:00:16 +0000 UTCI want to add (because this feels like a safe space to have this important conversation that I probably have thought too much about over the last three weeks) that I don't think the backlash is necessarily ALL related to Taylor speaking her truth and people not liking that, or saying that the experience she has had with disordered eating or body image isn't valid or relatable (I understand some people have argued that and that perspective majorly, majorly sucks). Instead, many people have argued for cutting the image of the scale because, as a society (in general but especially one that in recent years has often claimed to be striving towards eliminating anti-fat bias and weight stigma to allow fat people be treated as equals among their peers, period, but has fallen very, very short of that goal), we don't need more content that explicitly links the word fat with negativity and self-loathing because that relationship is already so deeply embedded in our culture. I really, really hope that the edit was made because of Taylor agreeing with that argument, and not wanting to further perpetuate the (unintentional!) negative impact -- and that she knows that criticism is meant to be constructive and come from a place of love. Lots of love to everyone xx

I have been fat. I have been skinny. Society makes you feel very ashamed even if you're not "Fat", it puts a lot of pressure on especially women because it's also part of being Hollywood attractive/relevant to be young and skinny. What is "Fat" anyway? Who determines that the magic number for any one person to cross the line into "fat". It's all subjective.

I've been 90 lbs and I've been 200 lbs now, and there were times I felt FAR FATTER at 90 lbs than I ever did once I loved myself and didn't care (gained weight after losing my gallbladder). I don't have an eating disorder but I think it's more than relatable especially if you do.

Like they would pause the video just so they could analyze every single thing in a scene. Not hating the analysis, I love it, but enjoy the video first! Go back and analyze after! I don't see any downsides to doing it this way. On the other hand, the downside to pausing too much is not being able to enjoy the video the way Taylor intended. The scene she wrote is HILARIOUS and it got spoiled when they read the punchlines in the will first. Taylor didn't intend for the video to be watched like this

I love her personalities and the funeral scene. Bejeweled is a strong follow up with like a zillion Easter eggs and a cast like You Need To Calm Down/Bad Blood. Having struggle with eating disorders, personality and mental struggles, etc. Taylor really means so much for opening in this video which is like the director's cut of the song if that makes sense.

2022-11-04 15:44:28 +0000 UTCLove it! As far as fathoming after many listens my biggest changes from an initial listen are with Midnight Rain and Bejeweled. Y'all thought Midnight Rain was about Tom Hiddleston but I think it goes back to Fearless era instead. Just the fact that she uses "rain" in it and that was the theme of Fearless puts it there for me. I've seen others say they think it's about Taylor Lautner and gives them Back To December vibes. As for Bejeweled I think that is entirely about her relationship with Big Machine and her albums. The label didn't put her first she wasn't getting the attention she felt she wanted and you can bet someone told her that she would never top her previous success when she told them she was leaving. This is her saying you best believe I still have jewels, I can still make the whole music industry stop and listen when I put out an album. I think the music video drove a lot of this home especially the ending which I won't spoil for you here.

One of my favorite details. :) I love that while her “problem” self is definitely a bad influence on her normal self, she shows that her normal self still often has a really good time hanging out with the problem self. Makes me think about some of the things about my own personality that I know are toxic traits, yet some part of me also really enjoys those things about myself, too. Also picked up the Alice in Wonderland references in the dinner party scene.

I love your discussions because a lot of things you talk about is the say I believe and only OG fans will fathom. Hope you have a discussion about the edited scene because as an OG I thought the whole thing was rediculous with Tiktok people complaining when they don't know anything about Taylor's past and intentions. Those Tiktoker's are lowest denominator group. She was not hurting anybody else, she was talking about herself and if they bothered to watch Miss Americana they would realize that but I don't think they would though.

Bonny and Em reacted to the "modified" video and fully understood the message of that scene, proving that the word "fat" on the scale wasn't necessary in first place. I'm a fat woman and I use that word with pride, because there's nothing wrong with me, it's just a caractheristic such as been tall or short or thin or blonde or brunette, but for society it's still a negative word. Plus, eating disorders are so much more than being fat, (wether you are actually fat or not), equals bad. Controlling the weight is only the top of the iceberg. I didn't find that scene using that word specially fatphobic, but being such a big and influent artist, Taylor needs to make a positive impact and linking the word "fat" to negativity has been proven not only to not have a positive outcome, but also wasn't necessary at all to understand what she's trying to communicate.

So creative, so funny, and yet so painful. One thing I got from the look of her blood is that she is kind of saying she is a human glitter gel pen, because the blood looks like glitter gel pen ink to me--and of course it is giving the midnight sky as well. Let me also say, hoping this is a safe space, that "the problem" Taylor is actually very hot! This might be a screwed-up male perspective, but I'm sure I'm not the only one who thinks that. I am actually kind of heartbroken that she removed the word "fat" from the scale. She expressed her truth and some people didn't like it, so she repressed herself and pulled back. It is like a horribly ironic real-life demonstration of the song itself. The epic scene of the dinner is giving me "Notting Hill" vibes, from the scene where Julia Roberts goes to Hugh Grant's sister's birthday party. Not the same perspective or anything, but the vibes are sort of like that. The funeral scene is fantastic and everything about it is so clever. "Growing Up Swift" is a perfect title for her son's book, and "Life Comes At You Swiftly" is in fact a great name for a podcast! Wonder if someone will use it? And Preston is the perfect name for the snooty older son and Chad is perfect for the ne'er do well younger one. Please don't actually name your sons that, Taylor! And I love the giant "fame Taylor" (or maybe Tayzilla!) at the end.

Not being in my 20s anymore. the hill is a common term for aging. Like when you hit 40 you’re over the hill. Taylor mentioned in her recent interview with Jimmy Fallon she’s a “geriatric pop star” and I feel like that could means she’s feeling older too so while monster on the hill and sexy babies can mean her fame, height, and other things I wonder if it meant age too?

Reactions have their place and I enjoy them for their "reactions." It was disappointing that they ended up spoiling the funny scene for themselves by pausing and analyzing too much. While I agree with Julia and Nora about it exploring her insecurities, which should be celebrated, I also understand that some may have a problem with the word fat having a negative connotation. Like seeing "fat" on a scale and Taylor being disappointed by that word, suggests that it is bad to be fat. I think Taylor wanted to communicate that she has insecurities with how she sees her body, which can be distinguished from having a problem with larger bodies.

It makes the reaction not as enjoyable to watch because its being paused for 3 minutes every 5 seconds. And by doing it this way, it's unfortunate that you guys spoiled all the punch lines of the funny scene for yourselves by pausing and reading the will first, looking up the dress, etc. Personally, I would prefer if the video were just watched all the way through and then scenes were revisited and discussed in depth after. I usually never skip through your guys videos, but I found myself doing that when the discussions mid-video were going on for awhile and I wanted to get back to the reaction. I still enjoy the content though so thanks for making it!! Just some feedback.

It is such a relatable scene that many people can relate to. If the internet calls her fat and pregnant when she was a normal and healthy body weight, how could she possibly not internalize that? It was a really vulnerable scene and I feel so bad that she got negative criticism and decided to take it down. Knowing her struggles that she shared in the Miss Americana documentary, it is heartbreaking.
