With that as my only frame of reference I always thought the song was about their friendship. The MV just made me think they felt they had been lifelong friends. I still get the same vibe from this one. I mean there is the obvious top layer of the song that is about romance that has broad appeal. Then there's the subtle layer that is more specific to them and their relationship.

Taylor has money too, if not as much, but she also has herself and everything she has built--most of all us, her fan base, but also a well-deserved reputation as a straight shooter, a loyal friend, a great professional colleague. and an incredible businesswoman. 2022-02-18 09:30:53 +0000 UTCBecause of what I said in my previous comment, I think the best hope is that her re-records are so successful that she makes a huge ton of money and the assets bought by the holding company (which include the videos) lose significant value. At that point, she can go to the holding company and make them an offer higher than they could get on the open market. And remember she can take out a loan or team up with Republic Records; what bank would not want to be associated with Taylor Swift?

2022-02-18 09:22:09 +0000 UTCIf you look at the end of the Blank Space video, it says "Copyright 2014 Big Machine Records, LLC". And the licensing details don't mention Taylor at all, Her songs, on the other hand, are copyrighted by her, but specific performances of them are copyrighted by Big Machine. So she can re-record the songs, because she owns the songs themselves. But I think Taylor cannot re-record those specific music videos, because I don't think she owns any part of them. I think that she could create a new music video for Blank Space, but if it was too close to the concept of the original video, Shamrock Holdings (the current copyright holder) would sue her for copyright violation, unless she got permission to do a remake from them (like you have to get permission to do a re-make of a movie). This makes sense to me, because a video is such a huge production that no one person is solely reponsible for it, the way a songwriter can be solely responsible for creating a song. But I am not a lawyer.

Under the “music in this video” info it says licensed by UMG (on behalf of taylor swift re-record) though. So I think she does own them 🤔 a bit confusing
