Ashley

The final round of the tournament ends up arriving rather quickly as the Successor of the Primordial of Magic, Archal, wipes the floor with his team’s next opponent. And now that our teams are facing each other, those ships on the forums and internet are sailing even harder for some reason. In multiple directions.

Some people are talking about how Archal will probably go easy on me or something, while others are talking about how it’ll be a serious showdown between two Successors.

Regardless, my team makes a plan to deal with them, with me taking on the role of annoying them like in the last two rounds. Sending a blizzard through their side filled with True Damage. Both slowing them down and damaging them through any defenses they can set up.

And things actually work out pretty well for the first part of the match. Our team scores eight points while the other team scores four.

After that, the enemy team begins to score a little bit more as Archal puts in more effort. Bringing the score up to ten points on our side and eight points on their side.

Even with their catching up a bit though, we still have the lead. So I’m not too worried.

But things change after that. Specifically in the next serve.

One of their team members that hasn’t done much in any of the rounds acts as the server in this round. He was supposed to be their weak point. A target for us to score free points from.

So when he goes up to serve, I don’t feel very worried.

Until he suddenly grows to ten times his previous size, taking up a large majority of their side of the court in the process. Then he coats his entire hand and the ball in a massive number of spells before slamming the ball straight at me. With the ball growing in size every second.

My eyes barely manage to widen in shock before the ball completely crushes me. Making everything go dark in an instant.

The Game Court

“I don’t believe it!” the MC’s voice echoes in Archal’s ears as Archal narrows his eyes at the other side of the court, where the ball completely turns Ashley into nothing but a puddle of blood. “The Successor of Chaos has been killed?! And in one attack!!”

After a second, Archal turns his gaze toward his teammate, Jevez Rallzi. And he doesn’t know if he should feel grateful for him taking out the enemy team’s biggest problem for them, or afraid that he might be implicated in killing Chaos’ Successor.

Archal knew about the man’s burst skill. One that can only be activated once a month and is the only use the man really has in this event.

Not a lot of people know about it since he doesn’t activate the burst skill much. And despite only being able to use it once a month, he still enters events and Domains more than once a month. Further confusing people.

Unfortunately for Ashley, and potentially Archal as well, the man’s burst skill, when combined with his high level and other skills on top of it, was enough to kill the Successor of Chaos in a single surprise attack.

If she wasn’t taken by surprise, then Archal is sure Ashley would’ve been able to defend herself from the attack.

But she was taken by surprise and killed in a single blow.

“She’s not dead,” Etheria’s voice suddenly voices into his mind, surprising him into turning back towards the puddle of blood.

That’s… not dead?

The audience goes wild, but not in a good way. With hundreds of thousands, even millions of voices hating on the man who ‘killed’ her. But Archal doesn’t pay attention to that as he focuses on the puddle of blood. At which point he finally notices something.

The puddle is still filled with energy, and it’s slowly moving. Seemingly trying to reform itself.

It doesn’t take long for the MC to notice it as well, making him shout, “Wait! The Princess of Chaos isn’t dead yet!”

And the moment he shouts that, the entire audience goes silent in an instant.

Everyone turns their gaze towards the puddle before noticing the clothes she was wearing – clothes that are still in perfect shape despite her condition – very slowly being filled with her blood and flesh. Leaving everyone waiting for an entire five minutes, just watching her body very slowly reforming.

Eventually the game has to continue thanks to the serve time limit. Forcing Team Chaos to serve the ball.

The two teams slowly begin to forget about the Successor of Chaos as she gradually reforms herself, meanwhile Archal eventually manages to close the gap between their teams and even take the lead. Pushing the score all the way to twenty-four points to twenty, with Archal’s team having the advantage.

All thanks to the absence of Ashley’s snow.

But, at the same time, Archal can’t help but notice Ashley in the corner almost fully reforming during the round they score their twenty-fourth point. And when the Chaos Team goes up to serve, Ashley’s head finally fully reforms, with her still wearing the same equipment she was wearing before. Leaving the game to make it her turn to serve now that she’s able to serve again.

Just what sort of skill lets her take that much damage and still heal…

Ashley

When I regain consciousness, I find myself lying on the ground in a daze. With a ball floating in front of me, clearly wanting me to serve.

What… happened?

“Your body was completely turned into a paste and you just finished recovering from it,” Chaos answers, sounding both proud and slightly upset while making me blink in surprise. “Resolution of Order saved you.”

Oh. Right.

I pull up the skill that I haven’t really gotten much use out of since I haven’t ended up in a situation where I would normally die but still have energy.

{Resolution of Order – Grants the user one Resolution of Order. This Resolution will create a set condition that must be met for the user to be capable of dying. Should the condition be met, the user is capable of dying should they be killed. However, should the condition not be met, the user may die, but they will return to life immediately after as if nothing had happened.}

The only time I’ve nearly died since getting it would be when I fought against the tiger. But I was already out of energy then.

So the resolution I set of not being able to die without being empty on energy hasn’t been very important until now.

A faint smile spreads across my face as I reach out to grab the ball. Only for a frown to emerge when I notice the score.

I quickly put dozens of spells on the ball before serving it straight to their side, sending a blizzard along with it. And I surprisingly manage to score a point with this one serve.

Huh.

Wait, they’re almost out of energy. They have even less energy than me…

How do they have less than me? I just spent a bunch of energy healing.

Wait a second…

I turn around to see each of my team members having even less energy than the enemy team despite losing. With one of the team members being right next to me with his hand moving away from me.

“Your team members were taking turns pouring energy into you to speed up your recovery,” Chaos says, making a faint smile spread across my face.

Yeah, that explains it then. I know I don’t have the recovery speed to fully reform after being turned into a paste like that. At least, not in the span of a single volleyball game set.

The enemy team takes their serve after me, but I quickly manage to score another point thanks to none of them having the energy to both defend against the blizzard and scatter it. And after that, I score another point. And another.

Over and over again, one point after another, all the way until our team just barely wins the match.

And the game along with it.
