Year 820 | Month 9 | Day 18
“Will you give me some pointers in Wrath energy manipulation?” I ask the Demon King as we both stand on a balcony.
If I’m going to finish learning how to perform all of my skills using just Wrath energy manipulation, I’m going to need a teacher. And the only people who have ever had Wrath energy manipulation are the royal family of the demons along with a couple archdemons.
Oh, and apparently that leader of the rebels guy. Who I’m still not sure what happened with.
I wonder if he’s still alive?
“Very well,” the Demon King answers with a simple nod of his head before turning to look at me. “How much do you know so far?”
Huh. That was easier to convince him than I expected.
Then again, considering his awe towards me as Wrath, it makes a bit more sense that he’d be so open to teaching me.
Anyways, I go ahead and explain what I’ve managed to do so far, after which he looks down at the edge of the balcony while rubbing his bony face. An action that seems almost human, if it weren’t for the fact that he doesn’t have flesh on his head.
Come to think of it, what’s the point of rubbing your face if you have no face?
That thought rolls around in my head a few times before he looks up at me and says, “Your use of Wrath energy seems to be more instinctive than anything I’ve ever done. And while that’s good, you haven’t touched into the emotion behind Wrath yet.”
I blink at that.
“The emotion behind it?” I ask with a frown and a slight tilt of my head.
He nods his head before asking, “Have you ever felt truly angry while directly manipulating Wrath energy? Or have you always relied on your skills when you were filled with Wrath?”
That… gives me pause.
Have I ever directly manipulated Wrath energy while angry?
I don’t think I have.
“No, I haven’t,” I eventually answer while glancing down at my hands and the Wrath energy I manipulate to float above it.
“Manipulating Wrath energy through instinct is one thing, and it’s not something most people can do,” Val says, bringing my gaze back to him again. “It’s probably only possible because you are the Embodiment of Wrath. But if you don’t try to manipulate Wrath energy while you’re tapping into your own Sin, then you’re only seeing half of the picture.”
Half of the picture…
That makes a lot of sense.
Honestly, I was kind of expecting him to teach me some royal techniques or something. Some specific ways to manipulate Wrath energy.
Not this.
But this may work too, depending on how things go.
“Try to think of something that brings out your anger,” Val continues while motioning me with his hands to proceed. “Your Wrath.”
Something that brings out my Wrath…
My mind quickly goes back to that night all those years ago. During one of our trips to Yggdrasil for the meeting with the Ancestor and the Sacred Beasts. When one of the princes of the Ardene Kingdom went insane.
And ripped out my mother’s heart with his bare hand.
I still remember the sight of his clawed hand digging straight into her chest to rip out her heart.
A memory that instantly sets off the cold rage within me and reminds me of the other reason my family despises the Ardene royal family.
The Demon King pulls back a little as if surprised by the sudden rage on my face, but he doesn’t let it stop him from saying, “Now focus that rage into controlling the Wrath energy around you and within your own body. Try to mimic one of your skills through doing that.”
I direct all of my current rage towards going just that and mimicking one of my skills.
Wrathful Aura to be specific.
And I end up doing it with ease. Almost like the skill were activated despite it not being active.
What’s more is that my range with Wrathful Aura ends up being a lot larger than it was using just the skill alone. A sight that startles me and distracts me enough that my rage begins to slip away a bit.
To my surprise though, I manage to keep holding onto the feeling that the rage gave me while controlling my Wrath energy. Even without the rage filling me as I do so.
“Huh…” I mutter as the last of my rage fades away, going back into that little box that I keep it in. “Interesting.”
I move around my Wrathful Aura with ease, my mind registering everything that my aura passes over in the process. Then I smile as a thought comes to mind.
Could I just ignore leveling up my skills to instead focus on direct Wrath energy manipulation?
“Before I go, I should inform you that leveling up your skills can potentially grant you benefits you wouldn’t be able to mimic through direct manipulation,” Val states, snapping me out of that possible dream. “Especially with Minor Wrath Manipulation. You would need more advanced Wrath Manipulation to pull them off. And some effects of maxed out skills cannot be copied through manipulation.”
Well that’s unfortunate.
Val suddenly pats me on the shoulder, making me glance up at him. Only to find him staring at me as always as he says, “You’re Wrath. I have no doubt that you’ll master Wrath Manipulation soon.”
Then the man vanishes after teleporting away without another word.
Okay, I have to say, it is getting rather annoying not being able to read his non-existent expressions.
I frown at the spot he teleported away from for several seconds before turning my attention back to my Wrath Manipulation.
Right. I just have to work on this for a bit and then I can reach Tier 5 and head back home after I get that optional objective completed.
Because I’m not missing out on a free Random Skill Level-Up Card.
