Cassandra
Year 820 | Month 9 | Day 18
The next couple hours goes just about as I expected from my time at the Liathtrian castle as a princess.
All of the maids first start off by bringing me to a rather large and fancy bath chamber before they all start helping me bathe. Which I decide to just let happen since I honestly need some relaxation, even if I still have my guard up around them. Then they follow that up by letting me get back into my armor and equipment – since I refused to let them touch any of it – and doing my hair afterwards to put it in a braid.
They were going to do makeup as well, but I vetoed that too. And so did the head maid actually, mostly because apparently I have absolutely zero need for makeup.
After all of that they proceed to escort me to a dining room where the Demon King and the archdemon who I’m assuming is the Demon Prince are both already seated. Without anyone other than maids in the room. Each of whom are running around with dishes and setting all of them on the table, other than a couple who are just standing quietly in the corners of the room.
I have to say though, there’s certainly a lot of variety in the castle amongst the demons.
All of the demon maids I’ve seen so far are high demons, sure, but they’re of vastly different species. With the only similarity between them being they’re humanoid. At least in form.
Some of them are elemental-like demons who don’t have a set form but are currently managing their form to be humanoid.
I sit down on the other end of the table from the Demon King while narrowing my eyes a little bit at him. Mostly just out of wariness, since I don’t see any actual malice in his gaze. In fact, if I see anything, it’s kindness.
Which is bizarre considering that he’s the, well, Demon King.
He seems to be happy seeing me, and there’s some appreciation in his gaze as well. No doubt from my saving the archdemon.
Other than that though, I also see a little bit of awe in his eyes. Like he thinks of me as something greater. Something he never expected to see in his life before.
At this point I don’t really think there’s much I have to worry about, what with the fact that I’m sure they already know I absorbed their Flame of Wrath thingy and they’re still not aggressive towards me. But I won’t let my guard down just yet.
To my great surprise, after the majority of the maids leave the room other than the four standing at the room’s corners, the Demon King suddenly stands up from his seat and then bows down low at a ninety degree angle and says, “Thank you, Esteemed Lady Wrath, for saving my son’s life.”
Every maid currently in the room sends a shocked look at the Demon King before hurriedly looking away. Almost like they were afraid of him seeing their reactions or something.
But I don’t blame them for being shocked.
I find myself opening my mouth to respond, just to close it again a second later. Then I open it again and answer, “No big deal.”
He raises his head and looks at me with a rather fervent gaze as he says, “It is a big deal. It’s because of you that my son, Demon Prince Devon-kal Relsas, is still alive today.” The man glances at the maids in the room and nods his head, making them all leave silently before he turns back to me and continues, “I’m sure you must’ve gotten a mission from the System to do it, but even so, you still saved his life. And I will be forever grateful for that.”
Guess he does know about the System after all.
I had assumed he would, but I wasn’t absolutely certain.
“Could you tell me about the Flame of Wrath?” I ask, deciding to change the topic. Mostly because I’ve never been particularly fond of being treated like a hero. Even when I was in Liathtria or Aulta.
Something about his posture makes me think he would be blinking in surprise right now or something if he had eyelids before he sits down and says, “Of course.” Then he glances at his son, who is already finished eating by now. “But first, don’t you have something to say, Devon?”
Ugh.
I’ve noticed the look that Demon Prince has been giving me ever since I walked in, and I’m not particularly fond of it. Since he’s been looking at me with a mixture of awe, giddy childish happiness, and some possible affection on top of that.
The last thing I need is a Demon Prince developing some sort of attachment to me.
And, just like his father, the Demon Prince stands up from his seat and bows towards me as he says, “Thank you for saving my life, Esteemed Lady Wrath. I am in your debt.”
I let out a sigh before tapping my finger on the table and saying, “Could you please stop it with the ‘Esteemed Lady’ stuff? Just call me Wrath.”
It’s just getting weird at this point.
The two of them look surprised for a moment, but they don’t hold back as they both simultaneously say, “Very well, Wrath.”
After a second, the Demon Prince sits back down, albeit while still giving me that puppy-dog stare. One that kind of reminds me of Thrix 2.
Actually, I wonder how Thrix 2 is doing? I hope he’s not causing trouble for Dad…
My thoughts are put on hold when the Demon King states, “Information about the Flame of Wrath’s true origins is confidential, even amongst the royal family.” Leading me to believe that he won’t be telling me about it.
Until he waves his hand, making a flood of Wrath energy coat his son before teleporting him away.
Then he says, “So, now that we have privacy, I will explain it to you in its fullest.” His eyes narrow ever so slightly. “Because no one deserves to know about it more than you, Wrath.”
Huh.
So much for confidential.
