The Borderlands
Year 820 | Month 9 | Day 15
Not long before the Demon King arrived at the crater
The Demon King flies as quickly as he can after the traces of his son. Specifically using the Flame of Wrath’s unique signature to keep locked onto him no matter the distance. An act of which he’s absolutely certain the rebels don’t realize is even possible.
But when he gets halfway through the borderlands, something shocking happens.
Any and all traces of the Flame of Wrath vanish completely.
As if someone had absorbed it.
His eyes narrow and he continues rushing straight towards where he last sensed his son. Which is proven to be a rather simple feat since his son didn’t appear to be moving in the first place.
While he’s flying, he believes he’s prepared for anything that he may face. Whether that’s an army of rebels facing off against his son, his son being unconscious and dragged away somewhere, or even his son having thrown the Flame of Wrath somewhere he can’t sense it in order to protect their legacy.
What he was not prepared to find was a large dome surrounding what he senses to be a heated battle, with the leader of the rebels arriving outside of the dome mere moments after he does.
But that’s not all as the dome doesn’t last for long before it begins to crumble, revealing the contents within.
Contents that shock him in more ways than one.
The first thing that catches his eye is the sight of his son unconscious at the bottom of the dome. A sight that makes him burn with anger towards the rebel leader on the other side of the crumbling dome.
His anger settles a little bit though when he notices the strange visitor from another plane fighting to protect his son from a large elite salamander. Shooting off so much Wrath lightning that he has to wonder if she’s really just Tier 4. Since the amount she’s throwing is more than a lot of Tier 5 demons can handle. More than Tier 5 archdemons in fact.
What’s more is that all of the Wrath energy she is throwing is unbelievably pure. So pure that it’s even purer than his own Wrath energy.
His mouth parts open for a second, only to close again.
She’s not a demon.
This thought rings in his head over and over again the moment his eyes lock with hers. Then he feels an overwhelming urge to smile as those other lower class demons often do. But he doesn’t have the face to pull it off, so he just continues staring.
It doesn’t even take him a moment to understand what happened to the Flame of Wrath.
Especially when he sees the empty lantern and the empty flame ring on his son, who is currently stirring to consciousness.
The battle between the elite salamander and the woman continues on as they both shoot out powerful attacks at each other. One using Wrath flames and the other Wrath lightning. All the way until the woman’s attack finally overwhelms the elite salamander’s own and finishes the creature off.
Then the woman just collapses onto her back.
The Demon King feels slightly anxious about the thought of meeting her, but that feeling fades the moment he notices the rebel leader trying to move. Making the Demon King teleport straight over to the rebel before catching him by the throat. Not giving the man any time to use any of the tricks he pulled off during the ceremony.
How the man was capable of manipulating Wrath energy directly is still unknown to him. But it doesn’t matter for now.
Without hesitation, the Demon King knocks the rebel leader out before tossing him aside and creating a cage of Wrath lightning to hold him in place in case he somehow woke up. Then he teleports in front of the woman, at which point he finds his son having already moved up to her while placing his hand on her own.
Oh? This… is an interesting development.
He looks between his son and the woman, taking note of the gaze of which his son is using to look at her. One filled with numerous different emotions including but not limited to affection, adoration, awe, and even some faint hints of something more.
I guess the whole ‘black knight saving the damsel in distress’ thing does actually happen. Except that the damsel is the prince in this case.
Something about that amuses the Demon King, but he doesn’t say anything on it. Because he knows nothing could happen between them.
He turns his focus to the woman again before leaning down and touching the palm of her other hand while closing his eyes. At which point he senses the Flame of Wrath burning within her and opens his eyes again.
It’s as I thought.
The Demon King turns to his son and asks for a full detailed explanation of the events that happened here, even if he’s pretty sure he already knows everything. And his son doesn’t waste any time explaining.
Seconds pass, then minutes. And by the time his son finishes explaining, nearly ten minutes have passed. During which time the Demon King made sure to throw a Wrath lightning cage over the ice wraith as well. Simply because she was beginning to wake up.
Then the Demon King finally turns to the woman again as his son goes on and on about her heroics and upright morals.
Most likely the System gave her a mission to stop them from killing each other.
He tried telling his son that too, but the boy simply said something about her still being heroic even if she was paid to do it. Which doesn’t really make sense to the Demon King.
It doesn’t really matter to him in the end though. His son will realize the futility of his current pursuit with time.
Because Lady Wrath herself is unapproachable by us mere demons.
Without hesitation, he picks up both Wrath and his son before grabbing the two cages holding the rebels and flying off towards his castle.
