Alexander North

“Frozen Consultant, get out here now!!! There’s an emergency!!!” the lieutenant colonel shouts into the radio, prompting me to glance at the grounded bug who doesn’t look capable of digging like the other one was. Then I just fly up into the air, deciding it’s safe to leave it here for now.

I speed through the hive at a speed faster than any I’ve gone before, meanwhile I sense an enormous cold energy radiating from outside of the hive. One that sets alarm bells ringing in my head.

And one that reminds me of the energy source that was sleeping in the capital.

Fuck.

When I make it to the surface, I find everything in shambles.

All of the soldiers are frozen solid from their waist down, unable to move but not dead. The lieutenant colonel frozen high in the air with a large spike of ice connecting him to the ground as he is held right in front of a being I never wanted to see again.

That very same being that had fought with the angel before my coma.

The strongest Frozen Lord on the planet.

He has a large frame with frost-coated armor all over him, and very thick plating over his waist, shoulders, and feet, and claws kind of like crabs for hands. Except with one of those claws having some sort of hole filled with pure cold energy in it that I still remember seeing him fire like some energy cannon a while back. And he has the usual glowing blue eyes, along with a glowing blue energy coming from his chest.

After I make it out of the hive, the Frozen Lord turns towards me, his eyes narrowing at the sight of me.

Then he floats away from the lieutenant colonel, leaving the man just stuck there frozen hundreds of meters above the ground.

I narrow my eyes, briefly wondering if I should attack or run the hell away with Cynthia and Alexia, both of whom seem to still be inside of one of the buildings at the camp. Because there’s no way I’d stand a chance against this guy.

He isn’t like the other Frozen Lords.

No.

This guy is Tier 5.

There isn’t a single person on this planet other than possibly that comatose angel that can take him on.

And I’m no exception to that.

“You’ve grown well since I last saw you, hybrid,” the Frozen Lord’s voice rings out through the area. “But I sense that you’ve trespassed in my territory.”

A chill runs down my spine as I remember that previous Frozen Lord’s words.

That I am to be left alone so long as I don’t enter another Frozen Lord’s territory, at which point the owner of the territory may capture me as they please.

“Before anything else,” the Frozen Lord states, his eyes narrowing further as he floats higher into the air, letting off immense waves of cold energy in the process, “I have been indisposed for too long.”

The cold energy grows stronger and stronger before sweeping out in a massive wave, battering away any of the warm energy I sensed was fighting against the Eternal Winter. Leaving the entire world under the cover of the Eternal Winter once more without a shred of uncovered land.

I grimace as I watch this, knowing there’s very little I can do. At most I can use Solar Flare to uncover some of my immediate surroundings. But that would only span several meters around me. And I’m certain it wouldn’t last long before the Eternal Winter covered it again.

The shards begin to cover the area in greater number, with a few of them piercing into frozen soldiers and beginning to infect them. Turning them into froze ones while their comrades watch on in horror.

I feel my fists clenching at my sides as I watch all of this occur.

Then the Frozen Lord speaks, his voice seemingly resounding across the entire world, “I am Cryonix, the Vanguard of the Eternal Winter assigned to this world! From here on out, this world is under my direct control! All warm ones will either turn…” the creature’s eyes narrow, “…or they will die.”

Well, this just got far worse.

But I still cling onto my last hope.

Sol’s words.

And right as the Frozen Lord – or Vanguard, as he calls himself – turns and begins to float over towards me, it happens.

A powerful wave of heat in the form of heat energy washes over the world from the skies above. Clearing out a large portion of the Eternal Winter in the process and showing something approaching the planet.

I find a full smile appearing on my face.

The Vanguard stops and raises his head towards the skies with a surprised and grim expression on his inhuman face.

“It looks like this world isn’t yours after all,” I state plainly, bringing his focus back to me.

And as if on cue, I hear the terminal tell me the very thing I’ve been wanting to hear for a long time now.

“Yes, I would,” I state out loud, confusing the Vanguard for a moment before he focuses on the skies again as the flagship of the empire slowly enters the atmosphere. An enormous ship spanning over ten thousand meters in length.

A perfectly clear screen appears in the corner of my vision showing Dad’s face as he no doubt stands at the bridge of the flagship above me. And without hesitation, I allow him to see what I’m seeing through the screen, showing him the Vanguard.

His face immediately turns dark as another wave of heat energy floods out of the ship above. Surprising me for a moment as I realize it’s coming from him.

Interesting.

Guess I’m not the only one with new powers.

Then a glowing red streak flies out of the ship before appearing in seconds, with my father slamming his fist into the Vanguard’s face.

Sending the creature slamming into the ground as the ice below shatters, freeing soldiers with the shards melting.

Turning the entire situation on its head.
