The Rise of the Winter Wolf - Book 5 - Chapter 29 - First Steps out of the Dungeon

                                                                         Void Stream

“This is the first time anything like this has ever happened before! A Competitor, no, a Beta Tester getting an item that lets them interact with the outside of the dungeon?!” Mikaela shouts, his voice echoing throughout the Void Stream over the sounds of the audience’s cheering. “But wait! Doesn’t this mean that if you go to Aegis, you may very well meet with Sapphire?!”

Silence fills the audience for a split second before shrieks, shouts, and more cheers explode throughout it, proving loud enough to blow Mikaela’s eardrums if it weren’t for the protection given by a viewing room.

“I want to meet her!” “I need to go to Aegis now!” “Bring me there! I need to challenge her!”

Millions of voices echo through the Void Stream, with Mikaela picking apart some of the shouts just to get a grasp on what they want. Then he grins and begins messing with his screen for a second, letting the audience grow more wound up in the process.

After several seconds, he swipes away at the screen and spreads his arms as he shouts, “Bets are now open for all to participate in and make regarding the Princess’s journeys outside of the Beta Dungeon!”

Almost immediately the audience grows even more wild, something Mikaela didn’t even realize was possible.

This should be profitable. I should thank Sapphire for choosing to leave the Dungeon like this.

While everyone is messing around with their menus to make their bets and others are leaving the viewing room, likely to head to Aegis, Mikaela turns his attention back to the screen where he finds Wolf and Sapphire walking through the exit to appear on a floor theme filled with a thick, black fog. One that the screen showing the dungeon to them has to fade out slightly for them to see through it.

And what immediately reveals itself to the audience and Mikaela is a massive horde of skeletons. Skeletons that don’t last long after being frozen solid by Wolf before he mutters, “Guess this floor is meant to overwhelm us with numbers?”

That’s not gonna work on Wolf. Looks like it’ll be another easy floor then.

The 232nd floor of the Beta Dungeon

Sapphire can’t help but clench her fists that are held out in front of her in excitement as her dad sets up the teleport mat in the living room of their portable system store. Because for the first time in her life she will be able to leave the dungeon! And not just into a viewing room, but actually step foot out of it in person!

After waiting for several seconds for her dad to set it up, she begins to grow even more impatient, jumping from one foot to the other with a wide smile on her face. But she doesn’t say anything in complaint to rush him. And after several more seconds, he finishes setting it up, making a bright blue light shine from the mat upwards for about two meters into the air.

Finally!!!

Her dad turns around to look at her before raising a brow and saying, “Try not to cause any trouble for me while you’re out of the dungeon, okay? And don’t die.”

Sapphire quickly nods her head while looking up at him, still clenching her fists with excitement – something she hasn’t really been doing much over the past while.

After no longer being able to handle it anymore, Sapphire jumps at her father, giving him a quick hug and a kiss on the cheek that leaves him stunned for a second before she jumps off and steps onto the teleportation mat. Then she waves at him with a wide smile on her face as she vanishes, only barely seeing her dad turn to her with surprise visible on his face beforehand.

And the very next thing she sees is a forest, where she realizes that her dad had sent her to the edge of the forest near Safe Zone 52 after seeing the city across the plains from her.

That’s not as many people as I expected…

Sapphire tilts her head at this realization as she watches the dozens of people entering the city. But she also realizes that the only cities she’s familiar with are those in the movies and stories she’s… coerced… her dad into buying for her from the system store.

After a few seconds of watching them, Sapphire tenses up as she realizes that there is a large chance someone over there might recognize her. And she has no experience dealing with crowds. Not since she always asked her dad to stay behind in their system store whenever they go to the Conjunction.

The only people she has experience interacting with are the few people who decided to make her dad’s home a gathering place in the Conjunction and the wolf lady calling herself her grandmother from the viewing rooms. She hasn’t even been able to interact with her dad’s family much since it’s dangerous for them to spend SP now with the Voided Karma thing going on.

So Sapphire does the first thing that comes to mind. She wraps herself up in the ice element around her, creating a layer of snow while also making a small mist of snow cover the trees all around her to serve as cover.

Then she transforms into her small spider form and begins making her way to the city.

The snow should act as a cover in case someone saw me.

Despite her nerves at interacting with others, Sapphire can’t help but feel excited just at the sight of everything around her. Because she isn’t in the dungeon!

‘Sapphire? How are you doing?’ Sapphire almost skids to a halt when she hears her dad’s voice coming through their bond. But she quickly responds with an enthusiastic, ‘Great! I’m finally out of the dungeon!! I can’t wait to be able to explore with you when we really make it out in the future!’

She hears her dad chuckling across their bond as she picks up the pace towards the city. Towards the Safe Zone.

Time to see what normal people are like!
