                                                                       Wolf

I think I just passed someone.

Several seconds pass as I just fly straight through the maze without much issue, wondering why it is that anyone would ever think I could lose this thing with my speed compared to the others. But I do have to admit, all of these dead ends are getting on my nerves.

Seconds slowly turn into minutes and soon enough I end up finding another person in the maze that’s somehow moving just as quickly as me, which makes me blink in surprise and stop moving right above them.

We stare at each other for who knows how long.

The Competitor is the one with large wings. And they kind of look similar to one of the harpies I found on a previous floor, but with more humanlike features.

_-| Charlette Arc – Alpha Harpy – Level 1612 |-_

My eyes widen in shock at their level.

She’s over six hundred levels below me and is able to match me in speed?!

I narrow my eyes at the harpy, making her flinch from fear. In fact, I didn’t really notice this before, but I can literally smell the fear wafting off of her. Not to mention hear her heartbeat picking up speed as if trying out for a race.

Interesting. Didn’t really think about that stuff much against monsters, seeing as not many of those things really seem to feel much fear if any.

“Hey, why are you so fast?” I ask, deciding to be blunt about it.

The harpy girl flinches at my voice before timidly answering, “Because I’m an alpha harpy. We aren’t very strong, but we’re one of the fastest known species in the System.”

My eyebrows climb up at that claim.

“Interesting,” I mutter, only to shrug and call back down, “well, good luck.” Then I flap my wings once and leave, creating a sonic boom in the process.

Guess her species physical weakness is her balance for that amazing speed she has? Speed fast enough to match someone over six hundred levels above her whose physical prowess is quite a bit higher than most other creatures at my level.

There really are some interesting things in this universe. I honestly can’t wait to get out of this dungeon and explore it, but that’ll have to wait.

I continue moving through the maze for who knows how long before I hear fireworks blaring in the maze, making my eyes narrow. Then a notification appears saying that that very harpy woman has just found the exit.

Are you kidding me?

I stop in place before glancing back in the direction of which I came. Only to realize that I’ve gone too far to even begin to remember where it was I last saw her. Not to mention that she’s probably gone quite a bit away from that place too by now.

“Huh…” I mutter, at a bit of a loss for words.

Well, guess that’s what I get for growing too arrogant.

I continue moving through the maze, only to find the exit a few minutes later. And the moment I step onto the glowing red platform, I find myself moved back to the Beta Dungeon again, but with an item I won’t ever be using floating in front of me, and my level being three higher than before.

Hmm.

Well, it was worth it just for that knowledge crystal in the end. So I guess I’m fine with not getting first.

But I will have to do better next time.

Sapphire jumps out of my shadow as usual before walking in front of me with her hands on her hips and a wide frown on her face.

“Yeah, yeah, I know,” I tell her. “We lost.”

She just huffs.

“Anyways, let’s go,” I tell her, continuing our way through the dungeon.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I stare at the door with Sapphire standing right next to me. But neither of us say anything. We just continue to blankly examine the incredibly fancy looking door in the middle of the hallway.

Eventually I turn to Sapphire and mutter, “This has to be some sort of Special Room, right?”

She just numbly nods her head.

The door has black flames as a border with a pitch black door made out of some sort of sleek but very smooth metal. It has some sort of black jewel on the doorknob, and really does look like the type of door you’d find at the final boss or something.

“So…” I mutter. “Should we open it?”

Sapphire and I just stare at the thing for several more seconds, neither of us really knowing what to do at this point.

Because it could lead to major rewards. In fact, it probably will. But it’ll also likely have a lot of danger added onto that, so…

“Let’s just do it,” Sapphire suddenly speaks up, making me glance at her for a second before shrugging and reaching out to touch the doorknob. Then, the moment my fingers make contact, the door bursts open, and a large black hand grabs the both of us and drags us inside, leaving us in pure darkness.

‘So do you still think we should’ve done it?’ I ask Sapphire through our bond because some sort of black goop seems to be covering all of me, making it impossible to speak out loud.

‘Well, it’ll probably be okay. I doubt gramps would’ve made such an unfair monster in the dungeon as to kill us in an instant,’ Sapphire says, somehow convincing her self of that, ‘and besides. We’re still alive, aren’t we?’

‘Yeah, I guess you have a point… wait… did you just call The Reaper gramps?’ I ask her rather incredulously.

Because that’s… while technically true in a way, it just feels wrong.

Our lovely conversation comes to an end when I feel the black goop spitting me out, making me barely catch myself on one knee on the ground. Only for Sapphire to be spit out onto my back, knocking me over as my ears get overwhelmed by loud cheers.

“Watch your landing please,” I grunt as she quickly gets off of me before climbing to my feet. Then I look around at what look like bleachers full of people. Billions of people. Maybe even trillions.

“The first live boss battle is upon us! Grab your refreshments! Grab your snacks! And make sure you scream as loudly as you can as we welcooooommmee…” a voice I easily recognize as Mikaela’s shouts, drawing my attention to the air to find him waving his hand from the air at a spot far in front of me on whatever patch of black ground we’re standing on. “A ripper!!!!”

I blink in confusion for a second before turning to look at where he’s waving to find a large creature that I can only assume is a void creature appearing out of thin air with a loud roar.

Huh.

What’s going on?
