As soon as the word Talroth leaves my mouth, both Diane puts her hands on my shoulders and pushes me away slightly before holding me there and glancing at Leo with a serious look on her face, who also looks slightly concerned.
Uh, that isn’t a good sign.
Also, I would prefer if you took your hands off of my shoulders, but I don’t think now’s the time to mention that.
After a couple of tense seconds, Diane turns back to me while finally taking her hands off of my shoulders and saying, “Devourers are a special race, and they’re the only other race not born in the Void that can use the void element. And likely because of that, many of the devourers in the universe have a connection of sorts to The Reaper.”
My eyes widen at everything she just said.
“The void element?” I ask, putting the other details out of my mind for the moment. “If that has something to do with The Reaper, then is the element that I’ve found located in various places in the dungeon that seems completely resistant to my own the void element?”
Diane purses her lips for a moment at that before glancing at Leo, who just shrugs his shoulders and says, “You might as well tell him. He’s a reaper himself, so he’ll eventually learn all of this anyways.”
My eyes narrow slightly at him calling me a reaper.
I don’t think I’m technically a reaper yet. Not till I fully awaken like I did before.
Or am I? I’m not really sure how all of that works.
Diane turns back to me again with a sigh and says, “To answer your question, yes. The System uses the void element during its restrictions because that is The Reaper’s element.”
She seems to hesitate for a moment, making me wish she would just spit it out already, before she eventually seems to steel her gaze and state, “The Reaper is the absolute monarch of the Void dimension, which is a dimension used by many civilizations as a place for exile. It’s a place filled with extremely dangerous creatures, each with the ability to use the void element, which is the only element within the dimension itself. There is no fire element, no water element, no ice, no lightning. The void element is the only element within the dimension.”
My eyes widen slightly at that as Leo adds, “And The Reaper is the sole ruler of that place, with absolute control over all of the void creatures within it.”
“And that guy… is my ancestor?” I mutter with a small amount of awe mixed with surprise.
They both look surprised by my response, as if they didn’t realize that I knew about that.
Which is confirmed when Diane asks, “How did you know that? That isn’t public knowledge.”
My brows furrow at that and I decide to trust her by sharing with her the notification I had gotten and saved a while back from The Reaper.
Her eyes widen in shock at the notification, making a look of curiosity spread across Leo’s face. But Diane just continues reading it and even seems to reread it.
Eventually, she closes out of it and mutters to hers, “So there is a different treatment from The Reaper towards his descendants that are in the dungeon…”
Leo raises an eyebrow at that, but Diane doesn’t explain further as she pulls me over to the couch and sits next to me. She then takes in a breath before saying, “To give you a brief history of The Reaper in the universe, he randomly appeared one day several thousand years ago and started traveling through each planet one by one. Of course, at that time none of the civilizations on the planets had any power and couldn’t leave their own homes. Not even the Technalogia faction could leave since their technology wasn’t anywhere near as advanced at that point.”
I lean forwards slightly at her explanation, my interest certainly piqued by the idea of learning stuff that’s not on the forums.
“The Reaper didn’t do anything to any of the civilizations despite having the ability to wipe out each and every one of them with ease. All he did was go through each one and observe everything. The conflicts, both political and warring, the peaceful times, and every detail of each of the civilizations. And once he was done with that, he decided that it was time to advance the people and created the System,” Diane continues before grimacing slightly. “After that, he just vanished without a trace, leaving the first group of Competitors in the dungeon to go through without much success, considering that there wasn’t anyone that could sponsor them in the dungeon, and no information to help them get through it.”
My eyes widen at the terrifying thought of not having any of that to help me through the dungeon.
If that were me, I’d be dead. Period.
“It wasn’t until several Administrator Dungeons spanning through around five or so centuries later that we found the first reaper,” she says, her grimace growing even wider. “Of course, we didn’t know they were a reaper at the time, and they ended up becoming incredibly influential throughout the universe. Until he awakened as a reaper, making everyone realize just what he was and forced him out of the known universe along with the nation he had developed by the other influential beings of the universe.”
Just because he was a reaper…
“Over the years, the reapers have been taken in a much better light by the people and higher ups, with only a smaller portion of the current Executives still believing that we should get rid of them,” she concludes before messing with her menus and pulling up a screen showing some sort of enormous, black monster. It has a planet-sized, round mouth with the shape of a lamprey’s mouth, with pure black scales covering every inch of it and the appearance of some sort of draconic creature. Except one that stands on two legs.
“This is what a devourer looks like in its true, adult form,” Diane explains, making my eyes go wide with shock.
That’s what they look like?! There wasn’t anything like that on the forums!
Diane chuckles slightly at my response before leaning back on the couch and saying, “The devourers were originally a race of drake that was lifted up by The Reaper for some reason, so they all feel a form of kinship with the reapers. Of a sort. They obviously won’t go out of their way to help them, but if they can do it without much trouble, they can.”
“Oh,” I mutter while staring at the creature. “That explains why he’s helping me.”
