The Calling of Wrath - Chapter 46 - Dungeon Rewards

                                                            Cassandra
                                          Year 819 | Month 2 | Day 17
                                             Over a dozen hours later

I wipe the sweat off of my forehead after finishing off another Tier 2 monkey before checking the timer on the dungeon’s closing one last time, only to find it at about eight or so hours remaining.

Hmm, should I continue slaughtering them? Or should I just leave now?

I frown at the thought for a few seconds, just to remember something rather important.

When I’m let out of the dungeon… will I be let out back into the valley of the World Tree Vein? Where I can’t sleep?

If that happens… then I’m not really sure what I’ll do.

Actually, I think the only thing I will be able to do is make a run for the other side of the Vein to hopefully leave the forest.

I glance back towards the ape’s mountain located far in the distance before looking around my surroundings for a cave.

It’ll probably be for the best that I take a short nap. Just to recharge in case I get sent to the valley again.

Then I can go ahead and leave the dungeon.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

                                                    Several hours later

I wake up from another nap to the sound of another explosion. That likely being the entrance to the cave I’m in.

After grumbling for a few seconds, I get up and begin moving over towards the entrance, only for my eyes to widen in shock at the sight before me.

“That’s a lot of monkeys…” I mutter right as a horde of Tier 1 and 2 monkeys begin charging through the cave, with there being even more this time than the last time.

No thank you.

I quickly open the dungeon mission before selecting the icon next to it, making some sort of red barrier with a similar appearance to it to those cracks in the sky, except without whatever was inside of them, appear all around me.

Just seconds later, the first of the monkeys runs into the red barrier, only to vanish without a trace.

My eyes grow wide as the other monkeys all rush to stop, only for several more of them to be pushed into the red barrier as well.

At the same time, a note appears in front of my vision with the same color as the other dungeon-related notes.

Thirty-five thousand EXP for a single mission… that’s more than the optional reward for my Tier Breach Mission!

I’m snapped out of my surprise by the random item draw note appearing like usual.

Heat resistance? Guess that’s because of the monkey’s inflammable skin.

Also, why is this item called a monkey’s paw when the System kept calling them primates? I know they said that it was the same thing, but now it’s interchanging the terms it’s calling them by?

My thoughts are once again interrupted as a bright flash of red light engulfs me before I find myself standing where the entrance to the dungeon originally was.

Oh. It just let me out where I came in.

I look around for a few seconds, only to sense a spider-like creature enter my aura and twist around to dodge it. The creature then flies past me and lands on the ground in front of me, revealing one of those World Tree forbid nericalla spiderlings as it leaks its acidic venom from its fangs.

Well, that’s certainly something I could’ve continued going without seeing.

With a grimace on my face, I burst forwards to grab the creature from behind before smashing it into a tree and quickly backing up to get away from the acidic blood splatter that followers.

Damn spider.

I then look down at the ground to see if I can find the dungeon entrance anymore, just to not find anything except the grass of the valley floor.

Guess the dungeon entrance was closed while it is… well… closing.

Anyways, it would probably be for the best that I leave this area. Before the other monkeys begin to follow.

Which I honestly don’t know, considering that the countdown vanished when I left the dungeon.

I look around for a few seconds before starting towards the direction of the wall.

Might as well get some more Ichor while I’m still here.

Then I can go ahead and try my hand at passing by the Vein.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It doesn’t take long before I find one of the Ichor points of the wall and begin drinking from the small pond alongside the various monsters.

And surprisingly, only a single one actually tries to do anything during the time we’re drinking, letting me witness for what I’m hoping will be the last time for a while the smushing of a powerful monster by vines.

I wonder if the monsters have mellowed out a bit? Or maybe there’re just less now than before?

Because the last time I was at an Ichor pond, there would always be several monsters that ended up going smush despite the obvious reasons not to attack. Those being what I’m now sensing around the area with my aura.

Practically every inch of this place that my aura is touching is shouting ‘don’t be stupid’ with its terrifying feeling. But at the same time, something about the Ichor itself is very attractive towards the senses of my aura, making me understand why the monsters come here despite that feeling.

I continue drinking my fill until I no longer get any notes before getting up and turning to look at the World Tree Vein itself.

Looks like it’s finally time to leave this place.

Or at least try to.

A thought comes to me, and I stop walking before even taking my second step.

After I deal with my EXP.
