The Rise of the Winter Wolf - Book 4 - Chapter 15 - Alaric

                                                        Lucky Days

The chatter within the stadium slows down as the mini boss suddenly disappears from its place and reappears in the middle of the air, out of the way of the icy and snow being sent at it by Wolf. Wolf frowns at its reaction but continues climbing up the ice stairs beneath him for a few moments before crouching slightly and jumping straight up towards it with one of his clawed hands with its claws spread out behind him.

“Ya know,” Techral says as he floats next to Toby and Sam – the leprechaun host and co-host of Lucky Days – watching the livestream on the main screen, “Wolf seems a little overpowered.”

A silence falls over the audience for a second, only to be broken by waves of laughter from several areas of the stadium and even from Toby. However, Toby quickly regains his composure and asks, “So I’ve noticed that you’re calling The Winter Wolf by his name and not his title. Is there any special reason behind that?”

This question silences the audience once more as the various viewers wait for his answer, all while also watching Wolf tear his claws across the front of the guardian.

Alaric smiles and says, “Oh, I knew him a while back. And it doesn’t look like he’s changed much.”

The silence stretches for several seconds before loud shouting echoes throughout the stadium from the many fans of both the Competitors. Meanwhile, Toby and Sam share a shocked look, only to turn back to the man, completely ignoring the fight between Wolf and the guardian as they simultaneously ask different questions.

“How do you know him?” “Were you friends?”

The two leprechauns then share another look but turn back to Alaric again as he begins speaking without taking his eyes off of Wolf’s stream, “I knew him back in elementary school.”

Sam immediately opens up a menu and begins searching for the term ‘elementary school’, but Toby – having already researched a lot more about Earth culture than him – immediately points out, “But The Winter Wolf didn’t seem to recognize you when he watched a video of you on the forums.”

Murmurs flow through the stadium as this is pointed out, but they cut off just as quickly when Alaric glances at Toby with a shrug and says, “He probably doesn’t remember me. In fact, I’m probably just the annoying person who wouldn’t stop talking in our class to him.”

Snickers quickly sound through the stadium for a few seconds, but Sam – eager to gather more information on The Winter Wolf’s childhood – cuts them off by asking, “So he didn’t like you?”

Alaric just lets out a chuckle and says, “Who can say. He wasn’t exactly a social butterfly.” He then turns to look out at the audience and smirks at the sight of hundreds of thousands of anticipated faces who are completely ignoring Wolf’s fight on the screen. “But who really knows what’s going on in his head.”

This comment makes angry shouts resound throughout the stadium, but Alaric just turns back to the screen again with an amused chuckle, only to pause for a second as he sees Wolf physically ripping the head off of the guardian.

“Okay seriously, isn’t that a little bit too strong?” he mutters in a much quieter tone.

Sam pushes past his urge to ask more questions about Wolf and instead says, “This is normal for The Winter Wolf at the start of every theme.”

“He always has a harder time with the later floors,” Toby adds with a frown, also disappointed in not getting the answers he wanted, “although he’s still pretty powerful compared to the norm even then.”

“Huh,” Alaric utters before falling silent for a few minutes.

Silence falls over the stadium as the only noise that can be heard is that of the quiet whispered conversations of the viewers and the noises of Wolf finishing up dealing with the rest of the sentries.

“So Techral, would you be interested in telling us how you got your luc-” Sam begins asking, only to cut off as Alaric begins to disappear from the stadium in a green flash of light.

“Looks like my times up! See ya next time folks!” Alaric says while disappearing, leaving the host and co-host awkwardly staring at where he just was.

The silence hangs over the stadium for a few minutes before Sam thinks to himself, ‘I really don’t like that guy. Outside of his luck.’

A few more minutes pass as the audience begins to speak amongst themselves again.

‘Wait a second,’ Sam thinks with his brows furrowing in confusion, ‘did he really say Wolf hasn’t changed much? He’s not even human anymore!’

                                                               Wolf

Well, that wasn’t very difficult.

I freeze the strange goop that seems to act as blood for those sentries off of my hands while I walk up my ice stairs towards the top of the temple after grabbing the skill that was in the mini boss’s chest. Which was actually rather good, but also useless for me. Seeing as I can’t use sound element.

Although just the fact that sound element exists is both interesting and terrifying at the same time.

I pause in my step for a moment.

Maybe I can look on the player auction for a better set of headphones? Because while these are good, they’re only Tier 7.

That thought rolls around in my head for a few seconds before I continue climbing up the stairs and then move around the throne towards the exit.

Right before I touch the exit, I glance at the corner of my interface to look at my SP.

My Info:

Level: 1023

EXP: 10832/102300

System Points: 1015.20

Viewing Room Profits: 6821

Yeah, I should be able to afford a decent Tier 8 pair of headphones.

At that thought, something I had seen on the System Forums a few days ago flashes through my mind and I shiver.

Those cultists are honestly freaking me out a little bit. Just the fact that they’re building freaking statues of me is already bad enough, but having some weird rule making all of the cultists wear headphones that look similar to mine all the time to mimic me?

That’s just bizarre.

I shake my head before reaching out and touching the exit.
