The Calling of Wrath - Chapter 21 - Objective Complete

                                                                       Cassandra
                                                       Year 819 | Month 1 | Day 12

I step out of the barrier before immediately activating the skill’s second effect.

Once I do, my mouth is forced open and I feel all of my teeth – not even just my fangs – lengthening in a rather uncomfortable manner before a roar begins to resonate from my throat, causing a large amount of red and black energy to flow straight out of my mouth.

The energy quickly fills the air, making everything look black and red before it all begins to go inside of all of the sapient beings near me, including each of the abominations.

After the energy finally finishes leaving my throat, my teeth return to normal, and I let out a short coughing fit while backing up into the barrier again to watch whatever’s about to happen.

And it’s a good thing I did. Because immediately after the last bit of Wrath energy fills the abominations, they lose all of their previous sluggish manners and go berserk, attacking all of the other abominations near them, leading to a blood bath. Literally.

“Holy shit…” I mutter from my place inside of my barrier.

I think I might have underestimated how much anger and rage the beings I use that skill on will be under…

Because it looks like it’s enough for them to lose their situational awareness and attack anything nearby.

And what a sight that is.

The abominations can apparently manipulate the flesh in their bodies to turn into tentacles that can then be used to attack others.

Although seeing a bunch of mounds of flesh and blood swatting at each other with their… well… flesh, is a rather… strange sight to behold.

After watching them go at it for about half a minute, I begin to notice a pattern in their attacks.

Each of the abominations is aiming at one particular piece of flesh within the others’ bodies. A piece of flesh that looks quite a bit like a heart.

So they do have organs mixed in there after all?

I watch the bizarre sight for a little longer before turning away and entering the cave while bringing up the Tier Breach Mission’s progress.

So far so good. I just need to use the skill one more time and I’m good.

Now then.

I look outside of the cave again to see the mayhem going on out there before turning away and lying down on the bed.

Time to take advantage of the lack of any rotten fragrances to sleep.

                                                                 The next morning

So one of them survived after all?

I look out at the survivor from just barely within the barrier with my arms crossed.

Disgusting as it may look, it’s still too bad that I can’t keep it. Because that was probably the best night’s sleep I’ve gotten since the fight with the reavers.

With a sad sigh, I leave the barrier and approach the abomination, who immediately begins to crawl towards me at its sluggish pace. Once I get near it, the creature begins sending its whip-like tentacles towards me, but I dodge them all easily enough and quickly find its heart before tearing it out.

After that, the abomination just slowly begins to dissolve into nothing more than a pile of flesh and blood, adding onto the various other piles of flesh and blood in the area.

I wrinkle my nose at the sight before glancing back towards the cave.

The smell’s only going to get worse now, isn’t it?

Not even ten seconds later, I begin to smell the scent coming back even stronger now than before.

Yep. Definitely worse.

I bow towards the abominations to show my appreciation for their sacrifice before turning away and heading away from the cave to go make breakfast.

However, right as I’m about to enter the foliage of the forest, I glance back at the massive amounts of gore lying around the river and creak.

Wasn’t there a queen for those insects?

I really hope this gore-fest doesn’t attract a higher Tier abomination…

A shiver runs down my spine at the thought, but I push it to the side. After all, the chances of it attracting one shouldn’t be very high, but the chances of other high Tier monsters finding me if I didn’t have that gore-fest is pretty damn likely.

With that thought comforting me for the moment, I continue making my way into the forest until I reach a point that I can’t smell the rot and dead stuff anymore.

I look around for a second before quickly spotting a nice-ish looking place to settle down for a meal.

Now that I think about it, whenever I do eventually return home, I wonder just how different things’ll be?

For one, I’m not human anymore. Two, the world has gone down the sewage pipe. And three, I think I actually like fighting these monsters.

Although I could do without the almost dying part. And without the pain.

Once I get to the spot I found, I settle down and grab a dead direwolf carcass that I had skinned earlier from my spatial pouch before looking around for some materials to make a fire.

Also, being able to eat food that’s not burnt would be nice.

Too bad father never really thought about cooking as something I’d ever really need to do.

Which is odd, considering that all of the other female nobles in the kingdom are required to learn to cook. But I’m guessing it probably has something to do with mother not being around to add her share of teachings.

That or it’s because the other nobles are all expected to marry whoever their parents tell them to marry, while I actually have a choice.

Right as I find some firewood, I immediately drop it again as the sound of hissing echoes through the small clearing I’m in.

When I turn around, I find myself staring at a large snake with green and black scales, and glowing green eyes.

This forest sure is getting some diversity in its wildlife nowadays.
