The Rise of the Winter Wolf - Book 4 - Chapter 12 - Temple

So… it’s some sort of carnivorous-plant type golem?
The forums don’t paint them in a very good light, making them sound like ravenous beasts that attack anything that enters the territory assigned to them to protect. Which I’m guessing is the entire floor, in the case of the ones on this floor.
But what is a little disturbing is that they secrete some sort of gas that distorts the air around them, making any sounds made in their immediate area become extremely diluted.
With the lone exception of their own screech, which is extremely loud.
So, if I didn’t use my ice, then these creatures would basically be one of my worst nightmares.
Well, and if I didn’t have my soundproofing. In fact, if I didn’t have my headphones at all, then I’d probably be screwed.
I glance at the frozen golem who is currently just staring at me through the ice.
It’s still perfectly alive despite being frozen in ice without any air, so they can clearly survive without air.
Hmm.
I use my ice to pry open its mouth before looking at the very sharp thorn-like teeth that make up the insides of each of the four sections of its mouth.
That’s a lot of teeth.
I glance at the forums once more before closing out of it and having my ice pierce straight through the creature’s head and neck, killing it in an instant.
Let’s check out what’s in that temple.
It’s still too early to tell what type of floor this is between a battle or puzzle floor, but maybe this temple will give me a hint.
I leave the frozen corpse behind as I walk up to the temple and open the large, circular door that makes up its entrance.
As soon as the door opens, I jump backwards, just narrowly avoiding a large metal spear that comes flying out from the floor with some sort of red liquid on its tip.
The spear ends up flying high up into the sky before falling back down and piercing into the ground of the temple.
I walk over towards it before pulling it out of the ground and looking at the red liquid that’s now lightly sizzling against the temple floor.
Poison or acid.
Either way, it’s not a good sign that the first thing to happen when opening the door is for a trap to try to kill me.
It’s also a sign that this might be a puzzle floor. But there’s still not enough information to finalize that decision.
So I turn back around and continue on through the entrance to the temple.
Only for the door to slam shut behind me, locking me inside of some relatively large room full of several different pipes sticking out of the wall at different levels of elevation in the walls.
Not even five seconds later, several different liquids begin to flow out of the pipes. Some of them look as clear and blue as water, others as vicious and red as lava. There are also some that are just straight up green or other equally out-of-place colors.
What the heck…?
Underneath each of the pipes on the floor, there is a small ‘valley’ of sorts in the temple ground, where the liquid from each pipe quickly begins to fill. But it doesn’t look like they’ll last long before the liquid starts to overflow.
This is absolutely a puzzle themed floor.
I look around the room for hints, but the only things I can find are the pipes themselves. There aren’t even any doors leading out of the room except for the one I originally entered through.
Which leaves the pipes as the only manner of getting out. But what’ll happen if I touch the liquid from the pipes?
None of the different types of liquids seem to be doing anything to the pipes themselves, or the floor for that matter.
But will that still be the case if I were to touch it?
I doubt it.
I create bits of ice element before, causing a small ball of icy mist to form above my hand before sending it towards one of the growing puddles of liquid. However, instead of doing anything to test it, all it does is begin to freeze the liquid.
Hmm. Moving on to plan two then.
This time, I create a small dagger of ice purely from the surrounding ice element in the air, without using any of my eternal ice. I then toss it into one of the puddles – a green one in this instance – only for the dagger to immediately begin sizzling before disappearing completely.
Guess that’s acid.
I then repeat the process over and over again, with some of the daggers melting through some sort of acid, others through heat, and some of them even having even stranger things happen to them. Such as turning to stone or glass.
But one of them in particular catches my eye. Because all it did was seemingly make the ice dagger grow larger, with even more ice.
Interesting…
It’s not releasing any ice element, so it’s doing it through some sort of chemical reaction or magic. So I’m not sure if my immunity to ice will help me in this case, but I doubt it will do much to me even if it doesn’t work.
In any case, I create a staircase of ice towards the pipe spilling out the very pale blue liquid before making an ice bridge through the pipe.
The ice touched by the liquid just seemingly grows thicker and colder, so I quickly make my way across the bridge and through the pipe without any trouble. After nearly two minutes of jogging through the pipe and passing by a small rise with two even smaller entrances that are spilling the chemical, I finally find a light source on the other end before jumping out of the pipe into a much smaller room.
Right when I touch the ground of the room, loud shrieks echo through it, prompting me to raise my head and find several of those scythian golems scattered through the room.
Out of the frying pan and into the fire, I guess. Or in this case, out of the chemical-filled room and into the monster-filled one.
Just seconds after this thought crosses my mind, the entrance to the pipe that I just jumped out of seals itself off, along with the exit to the room that I noticed was on the other side of the monsters.
Looks like I have to clear these fellas out before moving on.
